Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Set To Return?
Written Monday, January 31, 2011 By Richard Walker

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West - like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - deserved to do so much better at retail. While it garnered a fantastic critical reception almost across the board, Enslaved failed to find its audience despite being a great game with gorgeous environments and some sound ideas.

So, it's heartening to hear that Namco Bandai, despite being understandably miffed at the game's commercial performance, is still considering a future for the potential franchise.

"It didn't perform as well as we hoped it would, but we're very proud of how it was received by both the media and the gamers who have experienced it," said Namco Bandai marketing director, Lee Kirton. "I can't discuss where we are in terms of a sequel, but we're looking at reviews and feedback from the press and because of the gameplay and quality that Enslaved delivered, we see it as a great catalogue title going forward."

A return to Enslaved's overgrown post-apocalyptic urban landscape would be incredibly welcome in our book, so lets just hope that talk of a sequel continues, shall we?

I really must take a look at Enslaved, haven't heard too much negative about it.

Finally news of a good sequel (maybe?) instead of all the crap that gets churned out.

I haven't got to play it yet but I have this and castlevania in my back log, my kind of story centered games, I'm sure I will enjoy both when I play'em so here's hoping they both get sequels

I played it. I enjoyed it for the most part. But the loose controls and repetitive combat got tiresome towards the end...

At the end of the first game I called a sequel. Don't want to give away any spoilers, but I thought (if done right) it could be epic.

I loved this game, but I don't know any of my friends that played it. Its a shame because it really was enjoyable. I'd welcome a sequel ... It would be a day one buy for me.

A blandly repetitive game with annoyingly loose and mindless combat, irritating characters, and a weird ending.

That's what I got out of it.

I say sink it and get a new idea.

Took it to platinum status without the DLC and enjoyed doing it. Bring on a sequel!

They left it wide open for a sequel. They also did the piggsy add on content.

I played some of it but then Dead Space 2 came out and, sorry Enslaved, but you'll have to wait. It was pretty fun. They're lucky it's Namco Bandai, and that they're contemplating a sequel because people liked the game, even though it wasn't a financial success. If it was Activision they'd be out of a job.

I didn't really like this game. Not sure why although everyone told me it's a good game. Maybe Ninja Theory isn't one of my favorites. i hope the next Devil May Cry doesn't turn out like this.

I thought it was crap. Collecting the orbs was the worst collectable ever IMO nad the storyline was disjointed and full of holes.

I hope that they do make a sequel for this game. I really loved the characters and the story of the first game. The graphics in some places were amazing too. There is a lot of room for improvement since the game was far from perfect. If done properly a sequel could be outstanding.

I agree, very good game. And c'mon Andy Serkis is awesome. Would like to see an improved sequel, and tone down the collectables.

Would very much like to see a sequel to this game. Was a really fun title! Admittedly though, once I Plat'd it, I traded it back in - just didn't have a ton of replay value beyond 2 or 3 playthroughs...

This game was a great game. Better than I had thought it would be. It does have repetitivness to it but most games do. Even though the ending made me feel accomplished the story itself was great. You could really get into the characters emotions and feel how they felt.

It's a shame that people didn't buy this one. A brand new, non-sequel original game that was really good. I can only wish for an awesome sequel. I bought the first one on release day because I was impressed with the demo.

It's a good game, but the ending is quite a mess..... It doesn't make any sense at all.. I always say:
-If a modest game gets an epic finale, then the games is good (The saboteur for example);
-If a good game has a BAD finale, it's a BAD game (this case)...
These are my thoughts...

In my opinion, it's a great game that doesn't necessarily need a sequel. I'd much rather see a Heavenly Sword sequel.

It probably would have sold marginally better if the publisher didn't choose such a crowded release date for other games. Enslaved: OttW is far from perfect, but it was good enough IMO to warrant a sequel, provided that the devs at Ninja Theory can improve upon the gameplay.

God I hope they make another one. I really enjoyed the first, enough so that I bought the DLC after barely even playing the game. The story was awesome and I'd love to see where it goes from the ending.

This was a very good game, the issue they picked a very bad time to release the game, so many big name games were out and took the spotlight

I was sceptical about Enslaved at first then I played the demo and I saw it being sold for 14.98 on Gameplay earlier this year, at that price I thought it was a steal and I can't really complain. The fmv's are well done, the story is the right balance of intelligent/understandable, it's not obviously repetitive, my only complaint really is the controls can sometimes feel a bit loose (windmill section). It's not groundbreakingly excellent but it's still pretty great; #18 said it's misunderstood. I agree and I hope a sequel does get released sometime in the future.

If they make a sequel I hope they fix the shocking combat features & camera angles. This could have been a fantastic game if the had if there where more options for weapons & equipment.

The characters and voice acting in this game are great. Some refinement to the combat and collectibles, and some marketing and they could have a hit sequel. This game deserved better sales, and I hope a sequel proves that.
