![]() | Top Spin 4 Getting 3D Support on the PS3, But No Individual Online Doubles Written Thursday, January 20, 2011 By Dan Webb View author's profile |
Speaking to PS3T at a recent Top Spin 4 event, 2K Czech President, Stephane Dupas, told us that the upcoming release of Top Spin 4 would not include the fan -requested individual console doubles. However, thanks to the newly released box art, it reveals that at least you’ll get 3D support... you know, so long as you have one of those expensive TVs. In iterations gone-by, Top Spin’s online doubles was only playable if you had your doubles partner sat next to you on the couch. Individual play was not permitted, and according to Dupas, things aren’t set to change in the upcoming sequel. “The thing you really want to understand is, we care a lot about the technical performance, you know, we don’t want lag to be disturbing the result of the game,” said Dupas. “From the test we had, four consoles, with the sort of gameplay and the faster volleys, we were not happy with the result. Depending on the lag, you would win or lose. This is not something we were happy with. So for this time: Top Spin 4, online doubles, two consoles.” Can we expect the implementation of it in future iterations? If the words of Dupas are anything to go by, don’t hold your breath. “Well, for us I would not say that this is one of the main priorities for our development. We’re always trying, one Top Spin after another, to make the gameplay more interesting and to push the visuals. I think this keeps us busy enough.” In slightly cheerier news, if you’re a fan of this 3D malarkey, you'll notice on the PS3 cover below that Top Spin 4 will be supporting the PS3's 3D capabilities when it ships in March. So at least you can have balls flying out the screen at you and all that jazz... Just like another Saurday night then... That's as well as the already confirmed Move support. I make that 30-15 then... Top Spin 4 is set for a March release. In the meantime, why not have a read of our wonderful Top Spin 4 preview and don’t forget to check back later for our full interview with Dupas.
