As much as I love the Uncharted series, I don't how successful a movie would be. I would probably wait to see it on dvd, but seeings how they're getting big names to star as the cast that would make me go see it in the theaters.
Here's hoping that Wahlberg can do a decent Nathan Drake voice! |

Thats the shittiest news I've read today on every site I've seen it on. I will NOT be seeing this movie. They said 'boo' to the fans choices and went with their own awful choice. Marky Mark CAN'T act. ::sigh:: Maybe when they reboot Nathan Fillion can helm this role like he should.

Sorry to double post but...SHE PUNCHED A SHARK? Heck that makes the film even cooler!
And to add to my point, some if not most of the suggestions are not big enough names to get the mass audience excited. Yeah it's annoying but Mark Wahlberg is more likely to get people into the cinema then Nathen Fillion,
I just hope Mark looks at the game first, I'm hoping he's joking here but he thought Drake had an uncle and father in the game (well appearing in the game).
Though the lack of a script could mean that the movie might not be set during the events of either of the games which would be good, it allows more freedom and that way I don't have to see tons of stuff on the internet about how

| Nathan Fillion was originally going to do it i heard and he would have done a much better job i think. every character ive seen him play is a lot like drakes and they even sound similar. they even have the same first name!!!! |

@timewarp Mark Wahlberg doesn't exactly have a shining reputation at the box office...
He was good in Three Kings, but that didn't take main stream. He was good in Boogie Nights, but that's a cult film. The Departed, he was okay - also not a blockbuster.
Invincible was decent, Planet of the Apes was awful (and Im a huge Tim Burton fan), The Other Guys may have been the least funny movie I've seen in a long time and a box office flop, The Lovely Bones was a flop and was also so bad I had to turn it off. Shooter, We Own the Night and Max Payne were all TERRIBLE. Shooter was about the best of the three.

Case Fillion: Fillion really wants to be in the movie so he won't half-ass the role and would agree to a contract immediately, he has followers, he's already the model from which the character was based, has the type act and voice, nerds will pay to see him, it might turn out well.
Case Wahlberg: Max f*ckin' Payne. He doesn't respect video game based series and won't even read the script. He doesn't have the style, voice, face or fit for the series. His being Drake = the movie not being taken seriously = Max f*cking Payne.

The Departed wasn't a blockbuster, how so? It was a blockbuster in every sense of the word. it made tons of $, it was awesome, it was nominated for every imaginable award a film can be.
That being said Mark was the completely wrong choice, it totally should have been Fillion all the way. |

| Well, it was fun while it lasted. But with Marky Mark on board, it's destined to fail. Why not just cast Nolan North, who is an actor and Drake's actual voice actor? What a huge fail on multiple levels. |

| This was a terrible decision. Wahlberg is just awful. He was already in a terrible game movie. Nathan Fillion deserved the part because A. He is really likable in all his movies and B. He does kind of look like Drake. This film was gonna be bad either way but now there is no chance of it being even watchable. |

I had to IMDB who Nathan Fillion is. I recognize the face, but he has never done anything worth me remembering him in.
I think it's high time someone cast a vote for the Ugly Betty guy who samurai chopped his mom's head off. That guy was born to be an action star.
Seriously though, go watch Three Kings. It's an incredible movie.
One more thing; since when has there ever been a seriously great movie based off a video game. Lower your expectations people. |

I was kinda hoping James Roday would get the role as Drake. Sure, he is not really known all that well, but I think he fits Drake's role perfectly. I mean just watch an episode of Pysch. He's perfect! Plus, it's a video game movie, you don't need top movie stars! Since people assume all video movies are going to flop anyways.
And I have always wanted to see Bruce Campbell as Sully. That'd be another perfect fit. |

its to bad a good actor like fillion can't get any real decent work he was great in firefly and the movie based on that series serenity. watching serenity made me think of fillion being drake I think he was perfect for the role. This is officially the worst news I heard all week.

It's fairly obvious that the people responsible for giving Uncharted the quality and charisma it is so well known for are not behind this movie. The lead designer of Uncharted refused to even comment on the film-to-be.
Also, anyone else check out who's producing this thing? Avi Arad, a.k.a the guy looking to make a movie about 1 manga, 2 teen novels, and 3 video games, Uncharted being only one of them! The whole thing looks to me like an uninterested, greedy businessman took some non-movie bits of semi-aged pop-culture, pitched a movie idea of each to some higher ups, and they all shook hands with dollar signs in their eyes.
In short, this is going to suck due to a flagrant, judgement-hindering greed not present in the making of either of the two games.

| @31: If I remember correctly they asked Akira Yamaoka on what he thought of the Silent Hill based film adaption and he liked it even though it had nothing to do with the video game. Just because one of the creators, or all of the creators have something to do with it doesn't mean it won't suck. I would just rather them not make a film adaption out of Uncharted. |

He's a good actor whose been nominated for Oscars and he's built for the role. Can Uncharted be good with Wahlberg? Yes. Does it all depend on the writers? Yes. If this movie ends up following the horrible fate of gaming movies then we'll have the writers and director to blame and not the actors because the acting lineup is pretty solid so far. |

Ghee this makes me think of the Episode of the critic where they hire Jay because he wrote a great script, then they locked it away because good movies don't sell well and they just made him write the third ghosbusters movie.
In other words so much bad news, can't Naughty Dog be the guys in charge of the movie or something, or even Sony? |
