As a former solider in the US Army I can see both sides to this argument. Changing the name doesn't do anything but I understand why they did. I got to play the beta and I'll admit it was weird to play as the Taliban.

This is totally different from playing as Germans or Japanese as that was a war from 65 years ago!!! I had no problem with them being called the Taliban, but I understand why some (mostly non-gamers) would as this is an ongoing conflict against an oppressive organisation.
Please lets try and stop the racial slurs and insulting comments. I am English/British, and I find it heartbreaking everytime its on the news that a British, American or other Allied soldier has died fighting them Taliban bastards. Let's remember that we are all in this together. |

| @87 you too are correct,the us an uk were planning to invade russia while they were still crippled from the war.but theres no getting away from the fact that america should have joined britain from the start(not 2 years later).the war could have been finished quicker and thousands of lives could have been saved.im still a big fan of the US though.at the time they had there reasons. |

Okay, ill just make it clear that i live in New Zealand & my blood is fully middle eastern.I am not a terrorist, so please dont say anything racist to me in response.
I am middle eastern & im wholeheartedly against the taliban & the terrorists, but i still have people i care about living in those countries. so i dont really enjoy killing all the muslims who look similar to people i know from those countries, just like im sure a japanese person wouldnt like burning the japanese in that level in CoD 5, or someone from Helghan wouldnt like killing the Helghast is Killzone 2 ;)
anyway, what im trying to say is, changing the name wont change much, people will still know that they're taliban & until theres a new threat in the world thats how most games are going to stay.

dudes, EVERYBODY sees the taliban as oppressive nitwits, so i do not understand how you want to play as them without feeling like the ultimate d-bag (which brings a whole load of communiacation problems over and through a MERE GAME). Also you have to understand that this will be an undeniable problem for parents; it doesnt matter if they are parents of soldiers, ordinary americans, or (mid-)easterners, it will still grab their attention.

| This was probably the best decision that EA could make, because it would be very disrespectful to play a game as the taliban and kill US troops in America and people from the middle east would probably have a mutual feeling considering they are playing a game where they are against their own country. | This isn't going to affect the game in any way, so I don't see what the problem is. The only change this will make to the game is the word 'Taliban' will be removed and 'Opposing Force' will be there instead. That's it. |
