Multiplayer Coming to Batman: Arkham City

Multiplayer is coming to Batman: Arkham City according to the latest issue of UK magazine PSM3, in which there's a feature claiming that "multiplayer is a certainty, but no details on this yet".

What shape the multiplayer aspect of Rocksteady's next bite of the Batman cherry will take is unknown, but rumours abound that Catwoman might take the role of Bats' co-op partner in crime. Imagine that! And with no word on the boy wonder, Robin or alter-ego Nightwing, it's certainly possible.

Personally, we think something like the stealth challenge rooms could be tailored to accomodate some sort of competitive multiplayer, in which someone is randomly selected to play Batman hunting a gang of goons. It could work... Maybe.

In case you missed them, 20 Batman: Arkham City screenshots popped up earlier today from an anonymous Flickr account. Check them out in the gallery.

Batman: Arkham City is slated for autumn 2011.

@16 Uncharted 2 multiplayer is one of the best multiplayers on PS3, ND made a right move so, maybe Rocksteady are making the right move......

No competitive. And especially no trophies that require online multiplayer. One of my favorite things about the first one was that all the trophies could be obtained offline. I hate how these days every company feels the need to make their games require online to get all the trophies.

I hate multiplayer! Especially if trophies are tied into it in some retarded way, like win 100 times, go team up with 80 of your friends. This could be very smelly.

not every game needs multiplayer added to it. im starting to wonder how many games soon will lack of single player campaigns and just exists with mp stuff. yes loads of people enjoy it and play it but still there are others who want single player dlc

If its competitive multiplayer, its certainly a lame move... but if its co-op that isn't forced upon me, I'm in. Either way, I want this game. Batman is the only DC hero worthwhile, to me, and Rocksteady has got this series right.

Also... what's this talk of biting Batman's cherries? I'm tellin' you, these articles are getting weirder and weirder.

Oh, well. Saving grace is Catwoman is mentioned AND shown, lol.

the only good game that had MP show up in a sequel and didn't ruin the game was Uncharted2. Never played more than the demo for batman but it didn't really seem like a competitive MP game. A co-op mode sounds cool though.

once again, NOOOOOOOOO!!! I loved the first and its fine without coop. Now if the coop is tacked on for fun and doesn't require bullshit trophies, then i'm for it, but i still wish they kept this single player only. Theres finally a great batman game and i hope they dont already start fuckin the series up with this.

MP isn't so bad. I just agree with everyone that said that I hope trophies have nothing to do with it.

Games don't HAVE to have MP but its nice for people that like it. I love RE5s MP coop ability to play with people around the world.

I just hope they don't turn it into what GTA4's MP was like. That stunk bad. The co-op was okay but the MP was horrible!!

No, no, no, no. When will companies realize that not all games need multiplayer. Especially games that it's single player action is far better than all multiplayer games out there. However, if they make it COOP only type of MP then I'm all for it. But nothing deathmatch style which would seem completely out of character in a Batman game. There is a huge vast audience that still enjoy the single player aspect of a game even without multiplayer.

no not another game that doesn't need MP gettin a pointless MP..... the first one was epic, this one will probably suffer due to this stupid direction. some games MP is great others not so much, batman is one of the ones which you play for the single player story, not a lame ass glitchy as hell MP which this will be.

Personally, this is a bad idea because Arkham Asylum was amazing as a single player game. Unless they somehow manage to make a really amazing job of the multiplayer, they could be ruining what will be another awesome game.

We have only ourselves to blame for every game coming out to have multiplayer, too many people bitch and complain that games dont have multiplayer and now they are getting it, even games that dont need it, like Bioshock, Assassins Creed, Batman, Resident Evil, co-op is fine in some games, but nowadays its all about multiplayer, would not shock me if some games came out that were multiplayer only and nothing else.

I could handle co-op play, but I'm really hoping there's no trophies for online multiplayer (the sheer existence of a multiplayer mode is no cause for concern by itself). I never want to repeat the mess that was LOTR: Conquest again...
