There's a Fix For Destiny's Annoying Heavy Ammo Bug On The Way

Bungie has confirmed that it's working on a fix for Destiny's annoying heavy ammo bug, wherein dying, returning to orbit or watching a cut-scene events in your precious purple ammunition stocks being inexplicably depleted. "It happens to us all. It makes Raids harder to clear. It deprives you of precious Glimmer, and patience. Frankly, it sucks," writes Bungie Community Manager David 'DeeJ' Dague in the latest Bungie update.

"For some time now, we’ve been tracking this one. To date, the best we’ve been able to do is to admit that we were aware of the issue. This week, we can give you some additional information," adds Dague, who notes that 'Sandbox Engineer' Jon Cable is looking into a fix that'll be rolled out before the end of February.

But why the long wait? The risk that fixing a bug like this could bring about a bunch of new problems, according to Cable. "Fixing bugs in a live game is always about managing risk. What are the chances that the fix is going to cause an issue that might be worse than the original bug? Players outnumber our testers by factors of several thousand, so if there is a problem that slips through the cracks, it is virtually guaranteed that the community will find it. This bug was mainly risky because it was at the intersection of a lot of different systems – player profiles, investment, sandbox, perks, and weapon management," Cable explains.

"In the end, I came up with a surgical change that fixes the main issue and minimises the chances that a new problem would be introduced," he adds. "I do not think I can overstate the complexity of these systems – it took me several tries to come up with a fix that did not cause other problems."

Look out for the heavy ammo bug fix in Destiny late next month. An exact date has yet to be confirmed.

  • I don't play destiny anymore, but I can't ever remember this happening to me. I did however suffer from the "use heavy ammo synth pack, get 0 ammo" bug/glitch since the start up to when I stopped months ago.
  • Traded this in months ago! I did enjoy the gameplay there was just a few things that pissed me off about the game that I eventually got rid! The fact I couldn't trade with my fire team was a sin as I was a hunter but found 3 legendary Titan armor but I couldn't give it to the Titan in our group! Also the fact that u can't interact much with the people u meet on the battlefield is also wierd! And then in the end it just got repetitive! Hope bungie listen and look to improve for destiny 2!
  • I would like to see a fix for the stat tracking at the end of strikes/raids to count the amount of precision and ability kills instead of always registering 0
  • Can they do anything with out having to patch it a week later??
  • Never happened to me, but I have to ask Rich - why do you keep posting random shit like this in the news section? Is Destiny really that special? I don't see you guys mention anything about hot fixes or raids being cleared in this and that about other games, so what makes this single game worthy of posting every little thing there is? Like this post here, few in the past seemed very pointless and even less newsworthy..
  • @1 i still get that now
  • @5 Agreed, this game gets way too much attention...I've been over Destiny for a month now and it still seems like it's a weekly news report that the game "still" needs fixing lol and that bugs are still seen since day one. Is it really that hard to fix an ammo glitch? Lol I'm still so disappointed in myself for buying this because all my friends wanted it.
  • @7 Nobody really cares if your over it, millions of players still play this game, many from this website, even post Platinum.
  • @5 & @7 what I don't understand is why you would click on an a news story of a game you claim not to care about. I'm sure you guys will go looking for some GTA5 news stories next so you can write "still no heists, this game is crap" then find COD for your "people still play this?" comments.
  • @9 actually I don't at all care about GTA5 news at all. Sure I played through the story and some online, but never been concerned about the heists or anything else. Just a game I wanted to try :) thanks. And CoD...why even bring it up? I read cod news, sure. I've passed on the last 2 just because I didnt like what I saw. I liked BO2 online more than watching friends play the last few games. Owell other games to play. Lol. I'm enjoying my time with Diablo and Newly bought Shadow of Mordor. Thanks again lol. Enjoy playing Destiny for another 10 years!!:x
  • @10 You seem to have missed 9's point entirely. That or you are just really bad at being sarcastic...
  • @11 Who's being sarcastic? I never said I didn't care! Just over it. I can still read news and not play the damn game. You're all too damn serious on this site. Lmfao fucking cry babies about everything.
  • @#9 I never said I didn't care about it. I actually sunk many hours into the game, getting bored of dumb grind, but easily getting my money's worth. I am simply trying to find out why is Destiny getting special treatment? I don't see these guys reporting on every patch and update/glitch about say CoD or BS, do you? You don't know me and you couldn't be more wrong about me, but I am not here to tell you my life's story, so hold your judgement for someone that you actually know.
