Square Enix has today announced a worldwide street date of April 23rd for brand new RPG IP NIER, which tells the story of a fella called Nier funnily enough.

Nier must find a cure for his daughter, who has been infected with the dreaded Black Scrawl disease. Sounds nasty.

"NIER fuses fast-paced action with a mature and mysterious narrative. The game sees a new direction for Square Enix and one that will appeal to action, adventure and RPG fans. We look forward to its release across PAL territories," said Larry Sparks, Vice President for Square Enix PAL Region Brands.

According to the Square Enix press release, "Nier will do battle alongside a set of formidable allies against waves of dark enemies and giant bosses to discover the truth about the disease, his daughter…and himself."

Colour us intrigued.

This game looks interesting and i'll probably have to pick it up but i'm sick of SE working on these side projects. I want main SE games like KH3 and FF versus 13!

This game looks interesting, it seems like a mature next-gen rendition of the Musashi series.. except it's a new IP, of course. I, for one, am all for it. I don't want Kingdom Hearts 3 or anything else that stars some pre-pubescent hero that whines his way to saving the world. I say bring on more adult heroes who let their actions do the talking. I'm definitely buying this one.

Good to know the release date, I'll need to save up some cash for then.
Also @2 The side projects you're talking about are only being published by SquareEnix not developped. So even if the developpers working on theese side projects weren't doing so, it wouldn't speed up development for games like final fantasy versus 13. Nier is being developped by Cavia while versus 13 is an in house game.

Remember there are 2 versions of Nier - Gestalt and Replicant. Gestalt is the only version getting released in Western territories. Japan gets Replicant on PS3, Gestalt on 360.
Import Replicant if you want the full experience.
