Sony will be performing a bit of maintenance on the PlayStation Network from tomorrow, having moved the scheduled slot for maintenance from Monday, 25th August. Monday's maintenance has now been moved to Thursday, 28th August.

The PSN maintenance will commence at 16:00 on Thursday, 28th August and will last until Friday, 29th August at 05:00 BST. The usual rules apply, as quoted below. You should know the score by now.

"For the duration of the maintenance you will be unable to login to Account Management and the PS Store. PS Home will also be unavailable.

If you have successfully signed in to your account on a device before the maintenance on a PS4 or within the past 5 days on any other PlayStation device, you should be able to stay connected and not lose your online session.

Users who do not have their details cached, will not be able to sign-in to their account or begin an online gaming session."

And as always, "there may be some additional downtime after the maintenance period for testing purposes". Consider yourself duly informed! Now, as you were, folks.

  • Good to know.
  • Hopefully, we'll get some free stuff along the way!
  • I'll probably take a bit of a thumbing down for this, but why does Sony do so much maintenance, yet Xbox Live rarely goes offline? We tolerated it on PS3 because we had free online, but now we're paying for PS Plus so why is this happening? Also, but for the DDoS attack this would have been done during a bank holiday in the UK. A peak time during the calender year.
  • Free stuff!?? You moronic children need to just move along. So sick of seeing entitled little snots feel as though they're deserving of something free simply because PSN was down for a few hours. If your cable happens to go out for a few hours due to an outage, do you call them demanding free channels and movies too? Complete morons. You CANNOT prevent a DDOS attack. Period! The best anyone can do is hope to head it off early. So stop acting like Sony is running some mom and pop network. How quickly we forget they DDOS'd Xbox Live the same day and took it down. Or how many times Xbox Live has been DDOS'd in the past and taken down for a few hours. Yes, Microsoft has better network stability because that's a field that Microsoft specializes in, but Sony is improving day after day, whether the little gaming kiddies want to admit or not.
  • On my day off. Awesome.
  • @#4 Wow, way to go dude. Actually when I lose internet or cable service for few hours at time, they give me some small credit. I just thought it funny since you mentioned it. Take a chill pill, relax laugh a little #2 and don't waste your breath. He obviously expect everything in life will be delivered right to his/her doorstep. It's not their fault, it's how they were raised. OT: Good thing it's tomorrow too as I have Friday and while I do plan on spending whole time with my almost 4 month old daughter, I also know she likes to sleep a lot, so should get some gaming time in=)
  • @4 yh i agree at these people wanting free stuff, however when the took down the cable box in the road everyone lost internet for longer than they said like 5 hours longer. i did phone them and tell them i wasn't happy and fair enough they gave me a free month on my bill
  • @6,7 - Fair points, but you're probably paying $50 per month to your cable company.(maybe more, I think our bill is close to $70, just for the internet portion of our cable bill) I already calculated this out before, and it works out to 13 cents per day for PS Plus. The cost and hassle of issuing refunds of a quarter for 2 days worth of downtime really isn't justified. PSN being down tomorrow sucks as I have the day off, but I will find some offline game to enjoy. Or I may even go outside!
  • You can think what you will about the reschedule. But more than a below 24h notion would be most generous, still. -.- And what about "signing in before the maintenance", with the original plan they gave a time frame of around a week - is it gone now and I will have to be signed in already like usual?
  • I work as a technician for Comcast. We give lots of credits for service outages. This also depends on the situation. Good thing to realize is that if your an asshole customer who complains just to complain, we won't credit you. Internet and television are still LUXURIES there is no law requiring us to provide service. You do not need it to survive.
  • @4: The comment didn't warrant your response. Your rage and insults against the poster reveal plenty about you.
  • Who cares about free stuff this will give us all some time to stare at the wall
  • @4 I completely agree with you to a certain degree. A lot of people feel like they're entitled to free credit/compensation for something they shouldn't. Sony is announcing a scheduled maintenance, so need to expect anything out of that. However look at people like the lady who fell into the water fountain because she was looking at her phone, she sued the mall and expected to be compensated for her own stupidity. Those are the leeches that need to disappear from the face of the earth
  • Well shouldn't be too bad. I'm usually signed into PSN. So I'll be happy if my PS4 has some connection at least. If not it won't kill me. Just have my own nemesis on Diablo killing me again lol!
  • @5 me too. I was considering picking up pvz garden warfare but not sure if ill bother now.
  • Yo , #12 I am with you , what wall do you want to stare at ? And when we are done there we could watch some paint dry . I think Sony needs to slow down there movie production and use that money to fund the construction of a dedicated server facility and hire a bunch of IT specialists to run it .
  • And for people living in North America & NOT in GB, the Maintenance times are: Start - Thursday, 28th August - 10am Est, 7am PST End - Thursday, 28th August - 11pm Est, 8pm PST
  • @4 you mean these DDOS attackers dont work for microsoft secretly? I always thought they own some of these smart annoying hackers.
  • rofl@4 what an over the top reaction..
  • @10: "there is no law requiring us to provide service" - I'm pretty sure there are laws requiring you to provide service when people pay you for it. People, remember, if you really need or want to use the network today, log in before the outage starts.
