Massive PS3 Problems Written Sunday, February 28, 2010 by Dave Olsen Apparently, PSN has taken a sudden left turn to crapsville. It could be PSN or it could be a firmware problem. People are being kicked from playing certain games to their XMB (Heavy Rain, for example), the date and time are displaying as 12/31/1999 (Y2K10?), and some trophy data has also been disappearing. The error code in question is 8001050F. If you're concerned about losing your trophy progress, don't play a game with trophies. Go and do something else until the smoke clears from this and the problems are solved. The only official word we have from Sony is from the PS Blog's Twitter page: "We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates." We'll keep you as updated as we can here, but we're scrambling for facts right now. We have an ongoing discussion in the forums trying to solve this puzzle. You can view the thread here. Update (8:43 PM PST): Sony just made a couple of tweets. They are posted below. PSN status update: We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them. PSN status update (part 2): Readers/followers are confirming that "slim" units (120/250 GB models) are connecting normally. Update (3:55 PM PST): Members are now reporting that they can log back into PSN. Still waiting from an official word from Sony, but it seems to be fixed, they may be in a testing phase right now. Personally, I'm going to wait for an official "all clear" sign from Sony. If you're going to try and hop on PSN, be aware that the servers are going to flooded, so if you can't log in, be patient and try again later. Update (7:01 PM): There you go folks. About an hour ago, Sony waved the all clear flag. You can return to PSN and your games. |

From what others have said, no premium/dynamic (purchased) themes seem to be working, and the only PSN games that work are ones that can revert back to the demo. I avoid inputing any financial information over the PSN account section. Could this be the works of some hackers? I hope not. As far as some of the PS3 trophies members who are warning not to turn on the PS3 for fear of losing your earned trophies, I hope you guys/gals are able to retrieve your accomplishements back. If not, then that would REALLY suck. Especially, the platinum trophies. Could this be from the same error but showing up in a different way? We've been looking everywhere on the internet but have come up with many possibilities; such as it being a problem with the game, his PS3 having the "YLoD", etc. He's not too happy about it and his PS3 isn't even that old (he bought it the same day the slim 250GB's came out). The link olsen posted is being updated every once in awhile so check that link frequently. In the meantime, those with Slims, can continue to play and earn trophies with no problems. People with fats are encouraged to avoid going for trophies until the situation has been resolved. | |

To anyone who lost trophies that were synced previously, you should be good. To those who don't have internet or don't sync their trophies often, I'm sorry to say, but if they're gone, they most likely won't be coming back. If you had your time and date set correctly and haven't experienced this, I'm pretty sure you're in the clear. For the people this did effect, try recovering you PSN account on a friends or relatives slim that wasn't effected. I'd be willing to bet money that all your synced trophies would come back. And since my save is at the end of the game I have to replay the first 3/4 before being able to get to all the trophies I originally had. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally. Hope this helps some of you who have lost a lot of trophies. | |
