Introduction:
Sports Champions 2 is a sequel to the PS3 Move launch title; Sports Champions. The game itself has received a few nice upgrades. Gone is the constant calibration process that annoyed many in the first game. This time, you only calibrate when you first turn on the game. The game also features a nicer menu system and a new party mode to play local multiplayer with up to four players. You can play this game with one or two Move controllers, although the realism is better with two controllers for Boxing and Skiing.

The games are different this time around, except for archery, which makes a return. In addition to archery, the game includes Bowling, Boxing, Skiing, Golf and Tennis.

Walkthrough:

Step 1 - Finish all 6 Gold Cups in Cup Play

You will earn the bulk of the trophies during this step. For each of the six sports, you will need to win the Gold Cup. You will need to win the Bronze and then Silver Cup before you can play the Gold Cup for each sport. You will unlock the Champions Cup for each sport after winning the Gold, but you do not have to play it. When you start the game, create your champion and use this character throughout.

During this step, you will work towards earning 250 stars for Superstar. There are a total of 324 stars available to earn (even more if you play the Champions Cups) so if you only get 1 or 2 stars on several events, don't worry about it. You will also need to get a score of 500,000 for Get The Point. Both of these should be fairly easy to earn before you complete all of the Gold Cups.

While progressing through the events, make sure to equip your Champion with at least one piece of the unlockable outfits for each of the sports, which in turn will unlock Stylin'. Also ensure you replay one event and achieve a higher score to earn Most Improved.

You will earn a trophy for completing each sports Gold Cup and another after you complete all of them. For tips on each individual sport, see its' respective Gold Cup trophy:

Legendary - Boxing
King Pins - Bowling
Make some Racquet - Tennis
Quiver with Joy - Archery
It's All Down Hill! - Skiing
Clubbin' - Golf

Each sport has a few additional trophies that you can earn. Nearly all of them will be earned naturally during the course of your Gold Cup playthroughs.

Step 2 - Play Party Games

Party mode is a new mode that allows you to play with 2-4 players in local mutliplayer. You only need one Move controller for this step as you can pass the controller from player to player. Before you start, create a second Champion. When you enter the character select screen, choose your original Champion and choose your new Champion. Don't select one of the default characters. This will earn you Profilin'.After you have played through the playlist, play it one more time to earn Party Monster.

Step 3 - Golf Specific Trophies

There are a couple of trophies that require you to play golf in Free Play. The first thing you should do is play a 3 hole match with par 3 holes to earn Fore!.Then you will need to play each of the 3 different locations against the CPU AI to earn Golf Carting.

Step 4 - Clean Up

By this point, you should have nearly every trophy in the game. You may have missed a sport specific trophy, or you might need to earn a couple more stars. Find the specific trophy in the guide for tips on whatever you may be missing.

44 trophies ( 11  30  2  )

  • Unlock all Bronze, Silver, and Gold Trophies

  • Accumulate 20 strikes in Bowling

This will occur naturally while playing through all three cups. See King Pins! for tips on how to get strikes.

  • In Bowling, pick up a split spare

This will require to leave yourself a split after your first roll. A split is when you have a gap between pins after your first roll, and knock the rest down on your second throw. On the scorecard, a split is designated by the number of pins you have knocked down with a circle around it.

You have a much higher probability of getting a split on the harder cup difficulties. You can get this in Free Play and change the difficulty in the character select menu to Champion. You can only select the higher difficulty after you have reached that cup in Cup Play. Defeating the Gold Cup will allow you to select Champion difficulty in Free Play. However, I had better luck getting a split in Cup Play than I did in Free Play for some reason. The best Cup Play match to attempt this on is the second event in the Champion Cup.

After winning the Gold Cup, play and win the first match in the Champion Cup. The second event is Target Score Bowling. You will be playing by yourself and not have to wait on the opponent to bowl each frame. Just throw a ball of medium strength (16-20 MPH) and aim for the head pin. Position yourself near the center of the lane . You may have to move left a couple small steps, or right if you're left handed. You will still pick up a lot of strikes as the game is quite generous, but just stick with it you you should get a few split spare opportunities.

The most common split I got with the above method was the 7/8 pin split which you'll have to either hit the far right side of the 8 pin, or put the ball right between them knocking them both down. On occasion I would be left with a 5/7 pin or 5/10 split which is a little easier to pickup.

  • Complete a game of Bowling

This will be the first Bowling trophy you earn. Simply play a game, win or lose, and this trophy will pop.

  • Win a single-player Boxing match without being knocked down once (Silver or higher)

Simply win a boxing match without being knocked down. You can't unlock this during the Bronze Cup. Play defensively and take it slow. Don't head into a match swinging wildly. When your stamina is low, your punches do very little damage. The safest way to do this is to just block until your opponent loses his stamina, at which point he will sit there with his gloves down. Use a Power Punch to the head when this opening appears.

If you're playing against an opponent who is playing defensively and not wasting stamina, just sit tight and when he uses a Power Punch against you, dodge right or left and quickly try to use a Power Punch against him. See Legendary for additional Boxing tips.

  • Land a 6-hit combo in Boxing

A combo is when you land consecutive hits against your opponent. This is not that difficult, especially during the Bronze Cup when your opponent is not very good at blocking. If you are having trouble, wait for your opponent to drain all their stamina leaving them dazed, unable to block your attacks. Unleash a quick flurry of attacks and mix in a Power Hit to earn this fairly easy trophy.

  • Complete a game of Boxing

You will earn this after your first match during the Bronze Cup.

  • In Tennis, score 10 points at the net in a single match

Net points in Tennis are when you score with your Champion standing right at the net. To get to the net, press and hold the button. Most of the matches will not last long enough for you to get 10 points, so you may have to wait to do this until the Silver or Gold Cup boss battle. Remember that you can replay any event, so go back to the Silver Cup boss battle and just keep yourself at the net.

  • Win a Tennis game after going deuce twice

Deuce is when you and your opponent have the same score once both of you have reached 40. The player that scores the next point will now have "Advantage". If the player that has the Advantage loses the next point, the score will again be Deuce. After having the score at Deuce twice, go on to win the game to unlock this trophy.

  • Score two aces in a single Tennis match

An Ace is when you serve the ball and your opponent fails to return the ball. An Ace doesn't usually happen if you have just a regular serve. Instead, you want a power serve. You can achieve a power serve when you toss the ball into the air, and hit it at it's highest point with a decent amount of force. Hitting the ball with a square racket doesn't often result in an Ace, so instead, turn the racket head to put a little spin on the ball. You will know when you have achieved a power serve if the ball turns into fire.

This is best achieved in the Bronze Cup as the opponents are not very good.

  • Complete a game of Tennis

This will be the first Tennis trophy you earn. Simply play a game, win or lose, and this trophy will pop.

  • Win a Silver difficulty level (or higher) Archery match without missing a shot

During the Silver Cup, win any match without missing a shot. The easiest match is the one where you have just 10 arrows, and unlimited time. Just aim for the bulls-eye and you should get this easily. If you need to, hold the button to zoom in on your target. You will have to beat your opponent in order for the trophy to unlock.

  • Last for 2 minutes in an Archery Challenge Mode match

This is very similar to the first game where you have enemies that that will start from the opposite side of the field and you must hit each of them before they reach you. Once you have allowed three to cross the line, the game will end.

Occasionally during the match, a power up will appear and if you hit this you will be granted bonus time. You start with 1 minute, so you will need to hit multiple time bonus power-ups to make the match last 2 minutes. Each of the Archery Cups have a challenge mode and the Bronze Cup is naturally the easiest to attempt this trophy on.

  • Get 3 split arrows in a single Archery match

This will require you to hit the same spot on a single target. Just aim for the bulls-eye each chance you get and you should be able to get this in the very first match. Each time you successfully split an arrow, there will be a notification near your score for the bonus points you receive.

You can zoom in on the target to help with aiming by holding the button. This is best to earn on the first Bronze Cup match. On Bronze and Silver difficulty, the blue line will show you where your arrow will hit, making this even easier.

  • Complete a game in Archery

Unless you split three arrows in the first Bronze Cup match, this will be the first Archery trophy you earn. Simply play the game, win or lose, and this trophy will pop.

  • During a race, cause another skier to crash

To get another skier to crash you will need to bump into them, if you can knock them into a wall, or any other piece of terrain, you should be able to get this. If you haven't got this before the final Gold Cup Boss battle, just replay the very beginning of that boss battle. There is a bottleneck where all the racers will be tightly packed together, providing an excellent opportunity to earn the trophy.

  • Pass another skiier after drafting behind them for at least 5 seconds

All the opponent skier's will leave a colored trail behind them. If you stay in that colored trail you will get a speed boost. Simply stay in that trail to draft and after five seconds, you'll just need to slingshot around them.

  • Complete a game of Skiing

This will be the first Skiing trophy you earn. Simply play a game, win or lose, and this trophy will pop.

  • Successfully land a jump with two forward flips and two back flips

This will require you to jump off a large ramp, which will not be available until you reach the Gold Cup. You can do this near the beginning of the 3rd match in the Gold Cup fairly easily. To do the flips, as soon as you get airborne, lean and push your Move controllers back, then once you complete two complete flips, lean backwards and swing your arms behind you and over your head.

After doing all four flips, you will still need to line up your skiis so that you can land without crashing. Here is a video of all four tricks being performed on the 3rd match in the Gold Cup.

  • In Golf, hit the ball onto the green from the tee

This will be a fairly easy golf trophy and one you will get while progressing through the Gold Cups. Just land your first shot onto the green. There are quite a few short par 3 holes that will make this easy. See Clubbin' for golf tips.

  • Complete a round of Golf with four players

This can be earned while playing Free Play. Just select four players, change full course to par 3 course and change the hole numbers to 3. Regardless of scores, you will get this trophy when you have completed your 3 holes, plus any additional playoff holes you may need to complete.

  • In Golf, make a putt over 40 feet

Putting in this game is extremely easy, especially during the Bronze and Silver Cups. Just reach the green and be at least 40 feet away. Press and hold the button and move your aiming arrow to the center of the blue circle. Then all you need to do is swing with the right amount of power to sink the putt. Remember, the Gold Cup removes the aiming circle for putting, so do this in earlier cups.

  • Complete a game of Golf

You will get this after you complete your first game of golf. Simply play a game, win or lose, and this trophy will pop.

  • Complete a training stage in any sport

When you first start each Bronze cup, you will be presented with a training session that will teach you the basics of the game. Just complete one of them to earn this trophy.

  • Complete more than 1 Party Play playlist

From the main menu, select the Party Play option. You will need to add at least one other player. Before doing a playlist, make sure you have a second created Champion and you will also earn Profilin'. Once you have selected your players, select the short playlist. You will be given 3 random events. After you have completed this, you will need play a second time to earn this trophy.

NOTE: Only one PS3 Move controller is necessary.

  • Use two or more created Champions in a multiplayer game

You will need to have a second Champion created to earn this. From the main menu, select My Champion in the lower left corner. Then select Manage Champions and hit the + button at the top right of the screen. After you have 2 created Champions, you can use both of them in a Party Play game if you haven't earned Party Monster yet, or in a 4 player game of golf if you've yet to earn Fore.

  • Customize an outfit for your Champion in all 6 sports

During each sports Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups, you will be awarded new headgear, outfits and equipment. Just select a new outfit for your Champion when you unlock them.

You can also edit your character's outfits from the My Champion screen.

  • Equip your Champion with an unlockable item

    See Stylin'.

  • Earn at least 2 stars on each Bronze Cup Challenge Mode

    See Sports Champions Champion.

  • Acquire 25 stars in Cup Play

    See Sports Champions Champion.

  • Improve your score in a previously completed Cup Play match

You just have to replay any of the matches from within Cup Play and improve on the score you previously set for whichever match you choose.

  • Come back to win after being knocked down in a single-player Boxing match (Silver or higher)

This will probably happen naturally at some point. You will fall as soon as you lose all your health. Once down, you will have to move your controller to match the on screen movement. Once you get up, proceed to win the match and this trophy is yours. See Legendary for Boxing tips.

  • In Bowling, get above a 200 point game in Silver difficulty or higher

This is another trophy you will most certainly earn on your way to the Gold Cup for Bowling. The easiest place to earn this is the Silver Cup boss match. Earlier matches will not give you a full 10 frames. However, you will need to bowl over 200 to defeat the Gold Cup boss. See King Pins for Bowling tips.

  • Win a game of Golf at each location in Free Play

From the Free Play Golf menu, play by yourself without additional players. Change full course to par 3 course and change the number of holes from 9 to 3. There are three courses you must play:

    1. Mont Vitesse
    2. Breakpoint Bay
    3. Mega Dome

You must play each of these against an AI opponent and win each game, which will not be much trouble.

  • Acquire 100 stars in Cup Play

    See Sports Champions Champion.

  • Complete the Gold Cup in Boxing

Boxing is a game of finesse. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can just pound away at your opponent without careful strategy. The Gold Cup really teaches you how important blocking and dodging in this game is. This is also much easier to do with 2 controllers, but can be done with one. If you have two controllers, hitting the left or right controllers button will have you dodge left or right. Hitting both buttons will have your fighter jump backwards. To block, simply hold your gloves in front of you with them touching each other. You'll have to block high or low.

If using just a single Move controller, the button will be your opposite hand hook, will be your opposite hand jab and will be an opposite hand uppercut. The button will dodge left and will dodge right with the being your backwards dodge.

There are five check-boxes that when filled up, will allow you to throw a Power Punch. To do this, hold your punching hand back until you see your glove turn white and then punch.

    Tips for Gold Cup

    • Play defensively - This is learned in the first Gold Cup match as you will face off against a very aggressive opponent. Block each of his punches and jabs and dodge his Power Punch attack. Once the opponent loses all his stamina he will be open to your attacks. Only attack during this moment and use your own Power Punch to deal massive damage.
    • Use the clock - If the round is about to end and the opponent is near full health, save your energy for the next round. Conversely, if you are low on health, if you make it to the end of the round you will begin the next round with full health.
    • Stamina (virtual and in real life) - Your punches will not do much damage when your stamina is low. For each punch, your blue stamina bar will decrease. It will refill automatically after a few seconds, but there's no point in trying to hit the opponent with low stamina. Also, for your own physical stamina, play defensively and make well timed punches. If you find yourself exhausted after a couple of matches, you're probably playing too aggressive. Since this is the most physically demanding sport in the game, make sure you take breaks. I switched to another sport after each of the Cups.
    • Regaining health - The only way to regain health is either by knocking down the opponent or making it to the end of the round.
    • Winning by decision - Each round is individually scored. Knocking down an opponent and landing the most punches in a round will allow you to win the round. If you score the most points by the end of the final round, you will win by decision. It's a viable strategy, especially in the Gold Cup, to win by decision instead of a TKO.
    • Final Boss - You can only be knocked down once in this match. The second time will end the game. Just keep dodging Power Punches and blocking normal punches. He usually pairs his punches either high or low. If he starts off with two high punches, he will follow up with two low punches and vice versa. It's not always the case, but it's his most common combo. He will mix in Power Punches, so be on your toes and just dodge left or right to avoid them. As soon as he loses energy, you have a brief moment when you can land a Power Punch of your own. If successful, hit him a couple more times, but be prepared to start blocking because when he recovers he'll start swinging right away.

The following video will show you a first round TKO of the Gold Cup boss. Notice that each of my attacks only come after the opponent drains his energy. Also note his combo pattern of two high or low punches followed by two of the opposite.

  • Complete the Gold Cup in Bowling

The Bronze and Silver cups in Bowling are fairly easy. Once you get to the Gold Cup, it does get a little more difficult as the game judges each aspect of the approach and release a little more carefully. Hold the to begin the approach and in a natural bowling motion, release the when you reach the foul line. You want to throw the ball with a hook so that it hits the pocket just to the right (or left if your left handed) of the head pin. Twisting your wrist just as you throw the ball will give you the nice curve you are looking for.

    Tips for Gold Cup

    • Find your spot - Move your character left or right by holding the button.
    • Find your arm angle - When you release the ball, aim to the right side towards the gutter, or left if you are left handed and twist your wrist to curve the ball as you release the ball.
    • Find your speed - Throwing a slower ball will make the ball curve more. Throwing it harder will reduce the amount of curve. The ball speed is displayed to the right of the screen after each throw.
    • Combine the above - Once you have found a spot, and can duplicate the location of the throw with the same speed, you should be able to consistently get strikes. You will need to get at least a 200 game to defeat the Gold Cup boss.
  • Complete the Gold Cup in Tennis

For anyone who played the first Sports Champions, this will be extremely similar to Table Tennis. Make your way through the Bronze and Silver Cups to unlock the Gold Cup. Defeat the boss to earn this trophy.

    Tips for Gold Cup

    • Power Serves - When you serve, flick your controller upwards and swing it back down when the ball is at it's highest point. You'll need to hit the ball fairly hard when you swing. When swinging back down, angle your racket to put a little spin on the ball.
    • Play the Net - Holding the will move your character up to the net. Doing so will allow you to put a quick end to game. This works great for opponents who are playing at the back. For opponents who are playing up close, stay back and lob a ball over their head. To hit a lob, tilt the racket face upward and swing from low to high.
    • Power Shots - Unless your are playing the net, most regular shots will get returned. Power shots increase the odds of scoring the point. To power shot, pull your racket back way behind you before you swing. You will feel the controller vibrate when you are going to hit a power shot.
  • Complete the Gold Cup in Archery

The Archery Gold Cup is full of "best of" type games against a single opponent. You will need to match up speed and accuracy, but speed is going to be more important.

    Tips for Gold Cup

    • Aiming - In the Gold Cup, you don't get the blue arrow showing you were your arrow will land, so you will need to aim a little higher to compensate for gravity pulling your arrow down. The further the target is, the higher you will need to aim. If you pay close attention during the first two Cups, you will get an idea of where you will need to aim.
    • Flag Pole Race - Fire arrows quickly and accurately at the target. Your flag will raise by the amount of points you score on the target. The most important thing in this event is to get the power ups and don't let your opponent get them. You will see them starting to form ahead of time, so ensure you're the first to hit it.
    • Marksmanship - Take your time with these events. This is about accuracy and not speed. You will have to time your shots as different obstacles will rotate around the target. Don't forget to zoom closer to the target with the button.
    • Shooting Gallery - Just be quick and don't worry too much about accuracy. The smaller the target, the more points it's worth. You will see wooden circles with question marks on them that will turn to reveal a score. These will help your score greatly. For galleries that have money bags or gift boxes, that when hit reveal more targets, the contents of them are always worth more points.
    • Rally - This will be a cube that you and your opponent will take turns shooting at. You will score more points if you hit the cube when it's close to the ground. Each time the cube is hit, the point value of the cube will increase and it will start to move faster. Once it starts moving quickly, just try to hit it as quick as possible to make it fall to the ground in front of your opponent.
    • Pairs - This is a classic memory picture game, where you have a short amount of time to memorize the locations of each image after which the cards will flip around. You need to turn over 2 matching images to score points. For this, try to memorize 4-5 pair locations.
    • Push - This requires you to push targets towards your opponent. There's also a zip-line target along the top that can be worth big points. When you see that available, try to hit it first, but be ready because your opponent will hit it and send it back to you. If you can hit it a second time, you should be able to score the points for it.
  • Complete the Gold Cup in Skiing

Skiing is one of the standouts in this game. It's a typical downhill race. This and Boxing are two sports where a second controller is a little easier, but again, it's not required. Most of the races are fairly easy, but the final boss match can be a little tricky if you aren't aware of one specific shortcut.

    Tips for Gold Cup

    • Drafting - Drafting is the best way to catch up to those opponents in front of you and give you a speed boost.
    • Tricks - Performing either a forward or backward flip and successfully landing it with the ski's parallel as you hit the ground, will give you a boost of speed. In fact, any jump with a good landing will give you a boost, even without doing a trick.
    • Shortcuts - For the final Gold Cup event, there is one extremely important shortcut you must take. If you look at the map, it's about 2/3 of the way into the race. You can see the shortcut on the map with what looks like a circle. You want to stay left. The path looks like it goes under a metal structure with red banners hanging from it. When you see this, stay to the left of the tree in front of you and you will travel down this shorter path. This will give you a huge advantage over any racers who turn right.

The following video shows the path I took for the Gold Cup boss race.

  • Complete the Gold Cup in Golf

Gold Cup Golf isn't that difficult, but you will be presented with more wind, longer distances and you no longer have your putting marker.

    Tips for Gold Cup

    • Driving without a Slice or Hook - One of the hardest parts of this sport is hitting the ball straight. When you take your back swing, you must make contact with the ball with your club face straight on. You'll notice under your power meter there is a picture of the club face. When you approach the ball, slightly twist your controller around to understand the effects it can have on your ball.
    • Power Drives - Need a little extra distance to take that shortcut? Power Drives will turn your ball into flames when done properly. To do it, you'll need to strike the ball with max power and with little to no slice or hook.
    • Practice Swings - For each shot, there is a blue line on the power meter that will indicate the ideal strength of the swing to reach your desired target. Before you hold the to step up to the ball, take as many practice swings as you like to get a feel of just how much power you need to reach the blue line.
  • Complete the Gold Cup in all 6 sports

You will need to play and beat the Bronze Cup to unlock the Silver Cup, which you're then required to beat to unlock the Gold Cup. The first two cups generally give you a little margin for error, but the Gold Cup takes most of that away. It's not that difficult with some practice and if you follow the tips for each of the individual Gold Cup trophies, you shouldn't have much of an issue.

The main differences (in addition to tougher opponents) in each sports Gold Cup versus previous cups are:

    • Bowling - Removes the margin of error on your ball speed, release point, curve amount and aim.
    • Boxing - You'll take more damage and you must be able to block.
    • Archery - Removes the blue arrow that shows you were your shot will land due to gravity.
    • Skiing - Landing will require your skis to be more parallel to the ground, even with just tiny jumps.
    • Golf - Hole distances are further and with more wind and your putting assist in gone so you will need to read the green.
    • Tennis - Opponents will return more normal shots and Aces are harder to come by.

Secret trophies

  • Acquire 500,000 points in Cup Play with a single Champion.

This is a combined score of all the matches in Cup Play. This will come naturally as you complete each of the 6 Gold Cups. You can view your current score and the number of stars you have from the Cup Play main menu. Just make sure you continue to use the same Champion when you play. The game will default to the previous one used when you restart the game.

  • Acquire 250 stars in Cup Play

There are a total of 324 stars you can earn in all the events across the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups. There are also 108 more available in the Champions Cup which is unlocked in each sport once you beat the Gold Cup. Since you only need 250 stars, just play through each event and don't worry if you only get 1 or 2 stars during each match.

You can view your current score and the number of stars you have from the Cup Play main menu. Just make sure you continue to use the same Champion when you play. The game will default to the previous one used when you restart the game.
