Introduction: Welcome to Spelunker HD. This is the English release of the Japanese game of the same name, which was a remake of sorts of the original NES title "Spelunker." Not much has changed gameplay wise, but new Co-op modes have been added as well fancy HD graphics! Classic graphics are still available. This is my first attempt at a guide so please feel free to PM me about corrections or suggestions.
Roadmap
Step 1: Play the Tutorial.
This will introduce you to how the game is played and you get infinite lives so don't worry about dying. Here, you will learn the basics of jumping, climbing, traps and items as well as how to use your portable fan, bombs and flares. At the end of the tutorial you will have gotten Baby Spelunker and Ghostbuster.
Step 2: Solo Excursion Playthrough
Start a new game on Solo Excursion. I highly recommend turning rope assist ON to avoid accidental deaths. The quickest way to get through all 100 levels without getting Game Over and having to start an area again is to make use of the "Save and Quit" option. Your progress will be saved and you will start at the last item (other than keys) that you touched. Keep in mind it saves everything you've picked up, including how much air you have left so I suggest saving right after you pick up an energy tank. You will get most miscellaneous trophies just from playing, as well as 10 trophies for completing all 10 areas.
Also on your solo run I recommend collecting all the mural pieces as you go through each level. There is one piece per level, usually hidden behind a bomb-able rock, inside a bomb-able wall, or out in the open. On a few levels the mural piece or key may seem to be unreachable. To reach these you will need to deploy a flare which will illuminate invisible platforms.
Step 3: Group Excursion Playthrough
For this you can choose to play either offline or online Co-op. The stages for this mode are almost identical to those in single player, the biggest difference being new rope types and respawning items. You only have to do one area at a time (10 levels) but there is no "Save and Quit" option. Like the single player mode you will get a trophy for each area you complete, as well as having to collect 1 mural piece in each level. By the end of this playthrough you should have 10 trophies for completing all ten areas. Some of the mural pieces in co-op can only be reached when there are at least three players. See Picture Reveals Shocking Truth for more information.
Step 4: Online/Cleanup
If you didn't play online during co-op, you should now try to get Courage in Numbers, Underground Idol, Rescuers Down Below, and Spelunker of the Day. As well as Fastest Man in the Caves which is the game's only competition trophy. You may also need to get a few of the mural pieces if you missed them. If you're having trouble finding them refer to the images linked in the guide.
If you're having trouble finding partners online try the Spelunker HD Boosting Thread

Introduction:
Spelunker HD is a remake of the old classic game with the same name. The main game consists of 10 areas and each area has 10 stages. You can play it alone or with someone else both offline and online. I suggest if you want to read more about the game you should check out the trophy guide for the main game.
Each DLC is a new championship mode area. Championship mode areas are very hard and heavily modified versions of the main game's areas. You can play them both in Solo Excursion mode and in Group Excursion mode. These areas are usually called EX. If you got the main game, then EX1 came with the game, and you can try it to see how hard these Championship mode areas are. EX1 is not the easiest one, nor the hardest so you will get a good idea of what to expect. I believe all the areas should be doable with this guide, but depending on your skills it might take you a while.
I've focused on helping you to be able to 100% the game. I will be giving general tips on how to beat all the areas in both Solo and Group mode and pointing out smart things to do in tricky and hard sections of the game.
Please tell me if there is anything I should add.
Thanks to MasterTonberry (Rayaqaza) for helpful tips and LibertyGeis for some corrections!
Walkthrough:
Step 1 (main game):
You should beat main game before starting on these DLCs.
Reasons:
-
These DLCs are heavily modified versions of the original stages. The DLCs will become easier if you've experienced everything the game has to offer in the main game first.
-
You are more than likely to meet enough of a challenge in the main game and if you had problems with beating the main game, then the DLCs will not be any easier for you.
-
If you collect all 200 mural pieces you will get the secret ending at the end of EX10.
Step 2 (group excursion/solo excursion):
You have to beat each DLC stage twice, in Solo Excursion and Group Excursion. You also need to collect 1 mural piece in each stage, both in Solo Excursion and in Group Excursion. Which mode you decide to do first doesn't really matter but sometimes one of the two can be smarter to start with. Group Excursion let you have infinite lives if you do some small tricks and Solo Excursion let you save. Infinite lives means you get to instantly retry what you just failed, whilst saving obviously lets you save and retry if you mess up something and can't go back for some reason. You also got a bigger screen in Solo Excursion than Group Excursion offline.
In most cases I would say Group Excursion is the best way to go, because you don't have to load the game all the time while trying to beat it, but this is just a matter of opinion. Some of the areas have some tricky bits where I recommend doing one of the two first, and I suggest you follow this. To clear an area, as the trophies suggest, means getting to the end of all 10 stages of an area without running out of lives. Remember to collect a mural piece per stage in both modes.
I recommend to do in Group Excursion first:
-
Area EX7, because the phoenix birds can get messed up by saving, so you might want to get good and familiar with the stage first before doing it in Solo Excursion.
I recommend to do in Solo Excursion first:
-
Area EX5, simply because in Group Excursion mode all players will be hit with earthquakes, at least in offline mode, even if they aren't in a stage that normally has earthquakes. You will therefore want to get good at this area before attempting to do it in this mode and in Solo Excursion earthquakes is not very noticeable if you save a lot.
-
Area EX10, you should save before you get the mural piece in EX94 so you can practice this, because if you mess up that part in Group Excursion mode, you will have to redo the three first stages, and trust me they are some of the hardest in the game. You may want to keep the save at EX94 for practising more if you fail at it in Group Excursion.
Help:
-
You will find help for some of the stages under the cleared EX area in the Solo Excursion trophy for the DLC the stage belongs to. There might be something under the cleared EX area in Group Excursion trophy too.
-
See Alone in a slightly nasty Cave with a Stream for general tips about Solo Excursion mode and how the saving system works.
-
See Buddies in a slightly nasty Cave with a Stream for general tips about Group Excursion mode and how the infinite lives trick works.
Step 3 (solo excursion/group excursion):
You got to do what you didn't do in step 2, either Solo Excursion or Group Excursion and of course collect 10 mural pieces in this mode too.
Step 4 (mural pieces):
Collect all the mural pieces you've missed. Remember, you need to collect them all in both Solo Excursion mode and Group Excursion mode. There is one per stage. You don't really want to have to do this step, so make sure you do it along with step 2 and 3.

Secret Trophies |
| |
 | King of Spelunkers | |
| Acquired all Trophies in SPELUNKER HD. | |
Congratulations, that shiny Platinum is now yours.
|
 | Welcome to the Caves! | |
| Played SPELUNKER HD for the first time. | |
You will earn this shortly after starting up your first game of Spelunker.
|
 | Cave Enthusiast | |
| Played SPELUNKER HD 50 times. | |
This will come after having played your 50th game of Spelunker and is cumulative over Solo and Co-op. See 'Child of the Caves.'
|
 | Child of the Caves | |
| Played SPELUNKER HD 100 times. | |
This will come after having played your 100th game of Spelunker. Don't worry about trying to get this one until you've done everything else. If by then you don't have it the fastest way to add 1 play to your total is to start up any level in any mode and just die to get game over. To check how many total plays you have go to Options>Statistics.
|
 | Beginner Spelunker | |
| Reached a depth of 300m. | |
Simply reach the bottom of Stage 3 in Area-1.
|
 | Eminent Spelunker | |
| Reached a depth of 1,000m. | |
Simply reach the bottom of Stage 10 in Area-1
|
 | Elite Spelunker | |
| Reached a depth of 10,000m. | |
This will come after you've gotten to the bottom of Stage 100 in area 10, right before beating the game.
|
 | Ghostbuster | |
| Got rid of a ghost for the first time. | |
The first ghost you encounter will be in the tutorial. Just push to use your Portable Fan to blow him away.
|
 | Master Ghostbuster | |
| Got rid of 100 ghosts. | |
This should come somewhere midway through your first playthrough. There will be more than enough to get you the trophy. Just kill all ghosts you come across. This is made even easier as some ghosts split into six smaller ghosts when you first attack them.
|
 | Eulogy for the Dark Spelunker | |
| Witnessed the death of the Dark Spelunker. | |
In Stage 84 you will find the Dark Spelunker where he has been attacked. It's impossible to miss since it's right in the middle of the stage. You don't need to do anything, just witness his death and the trophy will pop after exiting the stage.
|
 | Treasure Hunter | |
| Achieved a score of 10,000. | |
Just pick up every item you can. See 'Legendary Treasure Hunter.'
|
 | Famous Treasure Hunter | |
| Achieved a score of 50,000. | |
Just pick up every item you can. See 'Legendary Treasure Hunter.'
|
 | Legendary Treasure Hunter | |
| Achieved a score of 100,000. | |
This will come during your first playthrough pretty early on. Every item you pick up gives you points. Items that give the most points are Keys, Mural Pieces and Jewels that are hidden in bomb-able walls. Using "Save and Quit" during the playthrough will keep your score and help you get this even easier.
|
 | Item Collector | |
| Acquired 100 items. | |
This will also come easily during your first playthrough and is cumulative. It's actually impossible to not get as long as you finish the game. By the time I completed the game I had picked up 5,435 items in total.
|
 | Fastest Man in the Caves | |
| Achieved 1st place in Group Competition mode (Online). | |
This is the only trophy to get in Group Competition mode and must be done ONLINE. Use the Spelunker Boosting Threador try to earn it on your own.
All you need to do is be the first to finish the race so don't even worry about getting items. Race 3 is the shortest, and if you're still having trouble try to practice it a few times offline.
|
 | A Challenge to the Warriors of the Deep | |
| Entered into the rankings for the first time | |
This trophy requires you to be logged on to PSN. Once you have lost all your lives and get game over you will have your scored and depth placed on the leaderboards which will give you the trophy.
|
 | Courage in Numbers | |
| Played in Group Excursion mode (Online) for the first time. | |
Easy trophy. All you need to do is play Group Excursion mode, any settings, online and it will pop.
|
 | Underground Idol | |
| Play with 30 different players in Group Excursion mode (Online). | |
This trophy description is actually wrong. You can play 30 times with the same partner if you want to. Joining rooms with more players will help this go faster. But if you need to, you can play with one partner, start a room, kill yourselves and repeat.
|
 | Rescuers Down Below | |
| Revived another spelunker. | |
This can be done online or offline with 1 controller. In Group Excursion mode your team shares lives. Once you run out of lives if someone dies, you get 30 seconds to revive them before they are kicked out of the game. To revive someone simply walk over their body.
*I'm pretty sure I got this trophy when someone else revived me, so it may work either way.
|
 | Spelunker of the Day | |
| Acquired an MVP for the first time. | |
To get MVP you must have the highest score and finish any area (10 levels) in Online Group Excursion. I suggest using the Boosting Thread. If you want to try it without a boosting partner here are some tips:
-
Go for Keys, Mural Pieces, Purple Gems
-
The first player to the exit on each level gets 10,000 points. Just don't fall and die.
-
Mural Pieces respawn, so if you're going back by one you've picked up grab it again for the points.
|
 | Picture Fragments | |
| Acquired your first picture fragment. | |
You will get this when you pick up your first mural piece. See 'Picture Reveals Shocking Truth.'
|
 | Picture Filling Up Nicely | |
| Completed 25% of the picture. | |
You will get this when you have collected 50 mural pieces. See 'Picture Reveals Shocking Truth.'
|
 | Picture Halfway There | |
| Completed 50% of the picture. | |
You will get this when you have collected 100 mural pieces. See 'Picture Reveals Shocking Truth.'
|
 | Picture Almost Complete | |
| Completed 75% of the picture. | |
You will get this when you have collected 150 mural pieces. See 'Picture Reveals Shocking Truth.'
|
 | Picture Reveals Shocking Truth | |
| Completed the picture. | |
You will get this when you have collected all 200 mural pieces from all 200 levels. When you first start you will have to bomb a few suspicious looking walls so that you learn what the break-able ones look like. Later on to see what mural pieces you're missing look under Options>Statistics. The left side of the mural is filled with the solo pieces, the right side is the Co-op pieces. There are ten rows, one for each area. In example, the top left corner is Area-1, Stage-1, Solo. The bottom right corner is Area-10, Stage-100, Co-op.
If you need a visual aid to help use this Japanese site. All the Photos are numbered corresponding to each level:
IMPORTANT: Some of the mural pieces in co-op can only be reached when there are at least three players. This means if you like playing alone you either have to find 2 partners to play with, or try to reach the mural piece with 3 spelunkers you're in control of. How this works is in Co-op there are yellow stretchy ropes. When you come to a piece that is unreachable because the rope is too high above the ground, you need three people on the rope to bring it down to ground level. If you're playing alone and need to reach a piece by yourself you can reassign the controller to port 2 and take control of player 2. Since your first player has already collected the keys and cleared each stage you only need to go straight through to where player 1 is waiting, then repeat with player 3. On top of all this, when you leave a spelunker "waiting" you should position him on an energy tank so he doesn't keep running out of air.
|
 | Baby Spelunker | |
| Cleared the tutorial. | |
This should be the first thing you do. It will familiarize you with the game. You get infinite lives so don't worry about failing.
|
 | First Steps of a Spelunker | |
| Cleared Stage 1 in Solo Excursion mode. | |
You will get this after clearing the first stage of the game.

-
You get an extra life every 30,000 points so always try and pick up extra items for the points.
-
If you're having trouble on a particular section remember that almost all enemies are affected by flares OR bombs.
-
If a ghost is coming make sure you have enough air to kill it. Find an energy tank to refill your air gauge.

You will earn this and the 9 trophies before it by completing the game on Group Excursion mode. This can be done online or offline. Sometimes it helps to have a few partners but on certain levels if a partner isn't as skilled they can cost the entire team.
-
Remember there is no "Save and Quit" here so each area must be done in a single go.
-
If you're playing alone, take it slow. When a ghost shows up just find an energy tank and let him come to you. Energy tanks respawn in Co-op mode so there should be no shortage.
-
Playing alone, if you're on one of the later levels and running short on lives switch your controller to port 2 and activate player 2. This will give you 5 lives. It can be done for players 3 and 4 as well. Just position your new decoy buddies on energy tanks so they don't keep dying.

| Cleared EX area 2 in the Solo Excursion. | |
To get this trophy you need to beat Championship Mode Area 2 in Solo Excursion.
-
Stage EX17:
-
Octopus:
-
You can make the octopus disappear by going back to the upper part of the stage but it will re-appear once you go down again, though you will get some free seconds where it doesn't try to hit you.
-
It's attacks aren't as random as they first may seem. It attacks certain places, and at those places it attacks first on one side then the other. This means you can get past it's attacks by moving to where it just attacked, for then to move to the next place it attacks after it attacks there and before it attacks where it attacked before you started moving, and then you get out of the way before it attacks at the second place again. If this doesn't make much sense, then watch it until you do because there is a definite pattern and you can get past it safely.
-
Watch out for the bird in the lower left part next to the octopus.
-
Near the end of the area there will be sections where you have to pass birds that are flying very low.
-
In most cases you can run under them but in some cases that is impossible.
-
In the cases where it's impossible, there is usually a way to use the flare to scare them away.
-
One such case is before one of the mural pieces where you can use the flare from a platform above the birds, next to the rope down.
-
Another such case is where there is a very low-flying bird and there's a hole above you in the middle where you can use the flare to scare it away.
-
The last such place is at the end of the entire area, right before the goal. Here you should try to attract the birds closer to where you can use the flare to scare them away. You may also get lucky and you make it to scare them all away.
-
There is one case where at least in my experience you have to jump over one, I usually jump over it when it was at it's left-most.
-
The last stage is probably the hardest due to some of it being very luck depending. You have to time the ghost, the platforms moving up and down, the snakes on the ropes and the circulating platforms correctly. I have no tips for this, except for making sure the first rope climbing snake is not in the way when you want to jump onto the next platform.
General tips for Solo Excursion:
-
You can save your progress in Solo Excursion so use this to your advantage, as it will make the Solo Excursion a lot easier.
-
To save your progress, just press
and then choose to Save & Quit. This will save your progress and take you back to the main menu.
-
You can continue off from where you left by choosing Continue instead of New Game when you want to load your game.
-
Loading your game won't delete the save, and you can quit the game without saving by pressing
then Back to Title.
-
Saving and loading makes ghosts disappear.
-
When you load a save, it will take you to the same place as you would have ended up if you died.
-
You respawn at the last item you picked up.
-
You don't respawn at keys and mural pieces.
-
You can abuse the fact that you don't respawn at keys and mural pieces by for example getting to a key or a mural piece that is hard to get, then to save and load to get back to the last item you picked up.
-
You may want to save at the beginning of each stage, then explore the stages and load back to the beginning of the stage afterwards.
-
This allows you to explore the stage freely without having to worry about dying.
-
You will know where to go and where to use your items.
-
It will let you get the hang of all the traps and challenging bits of the stage before finally trying to beat it, instead of having to reload all the time.
-
You start out with 50 lives and you will be gaining life as you progress through the stages. You may allow yourself to lose a couple of lives without having to reload, because reloading all the time is such a hassle.
-
Items don't respawn so make sure to use them sparingly. They are also your checkpoints so make sure you pick them up in a wise order and not all at once.
-
Remember flares can sometimes reveal hidden platforms.
|
 | Buddies in a slightly nasty Cave with a Stream | |
| Cleared EX area 2 in the Group Excursion. | |
You must clear the entire EX area 2 in Group Excursion mode to get this trophy. It doesn't matter if you do it online or offline.
See Alone in a slightly nasty Cave with a Stream for tips on how to beat this area.
General tips for Group Excursion:
-
You can't save in Group Excursion mode.
-
I recommend playing offline, even though it's not as much fun.
-
In offline Group Excursion mode you potentially got infinite lives.
-
Just let a second offline player start and you will get 50 more lives.
-
Either use a second controller or press the
button to change the controller port of your controller, so you can start the second player.
-
You can also start a third player.
-
You may want to place the first player where energy respawns to make sure to keep the first player alive while spawning the second.
-
Make sure the second player survives.
-
Take them to a place where there is energy so whenever the energy respawns, the player gets more lives.
-
You can fend off ghosts trying to attack the player so no real need to do so but it can be useful.
-
When you start running out of lives, you must start to get a bit more careful.
-
Take player 1 to a safe spot where there is energy and you can easily fend of ghosts that may come attack player 1.
-
Kill off player 2 until you run out of lives, and kill player 2 one more time for it to get the 30 seconds countdown.
-
Quickly change to an unused player, player 3 for example and start the game as this player.
-
When the third player joins the game, you will receive 50 more lives.
-
Let player 2's countdown run out so they get the game over screen, and take it's place so your new player can get the respawning energy.
-
When you start running out of lives again you can do the same all over again, only this time you might want to put player 2 back into the game.
-
Yes, potentially infinite lives as long as you watch out.
-
When you get to the area goal and the game doesn't end...
-
It doesn't end because some of the other players are still in the game.
-
Kill off the additional players until they run out of lives, and one more time so they get the 30 seconds countdown.
-
Once the countdown has reached 0 the additional players will receive a Game Over screen.
-
Press
on the Game Over screen to take them out of the current game.
-
The game will now play the area finishing song, and you will get the trophy for finishing the stage.
-
In offline mode you can pause the game with the player 1.
-
There is a major disadvantage playing in offline Group Excursion, the screen is split in 4 and you therefore got a very small screen to play on.
-
You can zoom in and out using the right stick.
-
Make sure you look out for snakes on rope and spiders, as they can both be somewhat hard to see.
-
If you decide you want to do Group Excursion online.
-
You play with up to 5 other players online.
-
It's a lot of fun and a totally different experience.
-
You get 50 more lives per player.
-
When there's 6 players, you start out with 300 lives.
-
If everyone wants to finish the levels, and actually have fun with it, then everyone must be able to get through the levels, but not everyone needs to get all the keys.
-
Everyone shares the lives. This means you had better make sure everyone is somewhat skilled enough to be able to tackle the stages.
-
Non-host players can kill ghosts by getting close enough to them and then quickly moving away. Because of lag the host thinks the ghost hit the player and disappears, but the player never did get hit and therefore didn't die from it
-
Items respawn after 30 seconds in Group Excursion, and this you should use to your advantage.
-
Refill your energy. This is very useful to keep yourself alive, especially after fending off one or several ghosts.
-
Create checkpoints you can respawn back at when you die.
-
Use it to stock up on items.
-
You get a life every 30,000th point.
-
Mural pieces respawn too so you can get quite a lot of points.
-
When you can stock up on flares and bombs etc, you can use these against monsters, which rewards you with points.
-
Normal items gives you points.
-
Killing ghosts gives you points too.
-
Ghosts are bigger so make sure to keep your energy stage as high as possible at all times.
-
You can kill a "pregnant" ghost with a bomb. All you need to do is to place the bomb as close as you can get to the ghost without it killing you.
-
You start out with 50 lives if alone, and 100 lives if more than one player. All players share the amount of lives.

-
Stage EX24:
-
At the beginning of stage there is a lot of ropes, three hot air eruptors, two balls, and a couple of statues. This can be a tricky section but the trick is to keep as high up on the rope as possible. The top point at any of the ropes is a safe place. Jump over the balls.
-
Stage EX28:
-
First there is two rope sections that will most likely drive you insane the first times you attempt them.
-
The first rope section is all about calculating the length to the next rope and how long the next rope is. Once you know where to jump from to get to the next, it's pretty easy but you still got to watch out for the flames.
-
The second rope section is all about jumping very fast and climbing a little bit too at the correct places. After the two first ropes, you have to climb a tiny bit up very fast on each rope before quickly jumping to the next. Do note that the last rope before the red rope is slightly shorter than the rest, meaning you have to climb a tiny bit higher for this last one.
-
Later there are sections with a lot of balls but while the first section shouldn't pose too much of a challenge, the second section will be a bit harder.
-
Jump to the first platform where the spikes might appear, of course when the spikes aren't going to pop up any second.
-
Wait for the spikes on the next platform to disappear and if the ball goes to the left as the spikes disappear, jump onto the platform.
-
Quickly jump to the next under the ball and as you probably know, the spikes will appear on this one very soon so you gotta jump to the next. Jumping to it is pretty difficult while two balls are above you, but it's perfectly doable.
-
Place yourself on the very right side of this platform.
-
Wait for the spikes on the platform to the left to disappear and try to jump to it when the ball is going to the right but this is pretty tricky because if you miss the chance or you got bad luck, spikes will appear on the platform you are currently on before you are able to jump to the next.
-
Of course now you should quickly jump to the red rope.

-
Stage EX23:
-
Use a bomb at the platform that is at about the same height as the mural piece, the one with all the spikes. This will remove all the snakes from the rope up to the mural piece.
-
Hurry over to the mural piece. If done correctly the snakes on the rope will not have respawned and you will easily be able to get the mural piece safely.
-
Stage EX30:
-
Right before finishing the area, zoom out and you will see the piece. There is a hidden path over to it but you need to use a flare to be able to see it.

Secret Trophies |
 | Alone within harsher Frigid Walls of the Icy Depths | |
| Cleared EX area 4 in the Solo Excursion. | |
To get this trophy you need to beat Championship Mode Area 4 in Solo Excursion.
-
The main focus and challenge in this area is the ice and you will want to know how to handle it.
-
You can jump upwards a hill.
-
When going downwards a hill or moving fast forward, you will notice you can't instantly stop and your character will be stumbling forward for a little while.
-
If you want to stop you can jump. When landing from a jump your character will stop so no more stumbling.
-
You may also take very small steps by barely tapping the direction button. This will allow you to avoid stumbling and moving too far in one direction you don't want to go.
-
You may also try to just avoid stopping and just keep running forward.
-
Sometimes you can simply jump ahead a step instead of walking slowly.
-
Sometimes you may just have to walk forward and stumble, but time it correctly so you don't go too far.
-
There are ice on ropes too, which means you will be taken downwards by them if you don't jump to the next quickly.
-
In some cases you will need to jump back and forth between two ropes that are placed closely next to each other. Each jump will get you higher on the rope thus allowing you to get to higher spots on the rope, which in turn allows you to jump on a platform that are placed higher too.
-
When you need to jump a lot between ropes, you may want to turn Rope Assist on. I at least highly recommend it in this area.
-
Stage EX38:
-
Where you have to jump on iced ropes covered with a giant ball swinging back and forth and the ceiling is covered with flames.
-
Go to the rope at the very right that isn't full of ice.
-
Place yourself so your feet are at about the same height as the next rope to the left end.
-
The ball is going from it's upper left down to the middle and as it starts going upwards again against the right you will want to jump past it under it. Don't do it too early though.
-
Keep the left button pressed down and rapidly spam the
button to jump.
-
This should allow you to get to the left-most rope, but watch out so you don't continue to jump off it.
-
You will now need to jump back and forth between this rope and the one to the right, but watch out for the ball.
-
There are some similar cases as described above later in the same stage though here you must jump above them but it should be much easier to do so there.

-
Stage EX39:
-
Get to the end of the stage.
-
You will have spotted the mural piece by now so get up above it.
-
You will see that to get to the mural piece, you will have to jump on the iced rope and glide down past the four hot air things
-
If you look closely you will see that the ones on the right blow somewhat quickly after the ones at the left side, so you must try to time it so you can get past all four right after the ones on the right has blown out air.
-
I believe if you jump higher up at the iced rope you will fall faster downwards when passing the hot air things.
-
Once you eventually make it, jump to the left at the correct time to get the mural piece.
-
In Solo Excursion mode you can simply suicide until you run out of lives to save you've got the mural piece, then load back to before it and continue on without having to re-take it.
-
Stage EX40 (Solo Excursion):
-
You may want to save before going after this mural piece, get it and just suicide until game over, then reload and finish the stage else you have to do the entire stage all over again.

The half-flying green dragons got a pattern. They fly 3 short flights then one long and high. You can of course also use a bomb to paralyse them for some seconds.
-
There are a lot of earthquakes in this area but if you save a lot, you might not even notice it more than a couple of times.
-
Stage EX49:
-
At the bottom of the stage there is a big crocodile which is blocking your path.
-
Climb the rope, jump onto the first platform to the left.
-
Quickly jump to the next one to the left, then back to the one to the right.
-
Watch the crocodile try to eat you and right after he has done that, quickly jump back to the platform he tries eating you for jumping at.
-
Quickly jump up to the next platform to the left, and place yourself as much right on this platform as you can, this will allow you to avoid his tail and he will not be attacking you.
-
Now you just need to time your next movements to get to the rope to the left, but that shouldn't be too hard.
See Alone in a slightly nasty Cave with a Stream for general tips about Solo Excursion mode and how the saving system works.
|
 | Buddies among the harmless twisted Fossils of Ancient Creatures | |
| Cleared EX area 5 in the Group Excursion. | |
You must clear the entire EX area 5 in Group Excursion mode. It doesn't matter if you do it online or offline.
-
This area is quite hard in Group Excursion, and you may want to practice it in Solo Excursion first.
-
There are so many earthquakes and they expect you to move far too much in very little time. Once you get to the other side there is always a stone you got to blow up. It's like they expect you to die when blowing up the stone and getting back to the same position the next time.
-
A small trick here is to jump to another screen exactly when the lethal shakes hits, because if done correctly you won't die from it then.
-
The extra player you create to get another 50 lives must also be hiding on a rope from the earthquakes, even if they are nowhere near a stage where there are earthquakes. It is very important you make the second player hide or you will be wasting far more lives way too quickly.
-
The trick to get another 50 lives is pretty risky, especially if you only got one controller. I would recommend instead starting up a third player and not run out of lives until you get to a stage where there are no earthquakes.
See Alone among the harmless twisted Fossils of Ancient Creatures for tips on how to beat this area. Also see Buddies in a slightly nasty Cave with a Stream for general tips about Group Excursion mode and how the infinite lives trick works.

-
Stage EX42:
-
It's in the bottom left corner of the stage.
-
Climb up past the two hot air things and jump to the right side.
-
Move yourself as left as you can without falling off the edge.
-
Watch the green dragon fly up and down. Every 4th flight will be higher so wait until he has done 3 small and place a bomb.
-
Quickly jump under it and get as far right as you can.
-
The blast from the bomb should have taken out the green dragon for a little while. Now is your time to simply jump past the other dragon whenever you see fit.

| DLC: Championship Mode Area 6 |
| Cost: 1.99 Trophies: 3 |
| |
|
Secret Trophies |
 | Alone in an awfully tough Cave of Glowing Moss | |
| Cleared EX area 6 in the Solo Excursion. | |
To get this trophy you need to beat Championship Mode Area 6 in Solo Excursion.
-
There are some of those green animals in this area that crawl along the ceiling and jump down at you.
-
They tend to want to keep close to you if you are nearby them, so use this to your advantage rather than a disadvantage. Lure them to jump after you at one place while you safely go where you really want to go.
-
Keep away from them until they've gone away from the place you want to go.
-
They seem to have a hit target that extends much lower than the actual animation does and will easily hit you if are too close under them.
-
There will also be a lot of fish.
-
Most of these fish will not harm you if you follow a certain pattern.
-
It takes a little while before their attacks are shot at you, and you can usually stay still for a second or so before having to move away to not get hit.
-
As I mentioned earlier, the fish aren't supposed to hit you if you follow a certain pattern. At least that's how I imagine the people who designed the stages intended it to be and most of the time this is true.
-
While I said you can take your time earlier, you should not stay around on one for too long and always keep up a certain tempo to make them not hit you. Don't try to avoid them, it just doesn't pay off 90% of the time.
-
Stage EX51:
-
Running away from all the rocks are simple if you care to waste a life per rock. Simply activate the rolling rock and quickly die, you will respawn and if you are quick enough. You can get past the point where you activate the rolling rock and so it won't activate again. This means you can walk slowly and take your time with the rest of the path you else would have had to run through with a rock on your tail.
-
Running away from the third rock.
-
Go down the rope and a little to the left, just so you can see the hot air thing.
-
You must time it so you jump over the hot air eruptor about a half to three quarters of a second or so after it is possible to do so.
-
At the very end of the run, there will be a rope you must climb. Quickly climb it up and jump up to the next platform with the energy on it as soon as you possibly can.
-
Stage EX53:
-
The first thing you will want to do in this stage is to get the red key. If missed, which happens very easily, then it's very hard to get back to, especially in Solo Excursion.
-
The key is located to the left of the first rope. Jump to the left from the at a high enough position so you land on the very left edge of the platform.
-
The screen will move to the left and you will see the red key, go get it.
-
Stage EX56:
-
There is a little section where you got to jump onto ropes above water eruptions and fish shooting at you.
-
This section isn't as hard as it at first might seem, but I feel it's a little too luck dependent.
-
What you got to do is to keep yourself as far behind as you can, keep yourself on the ropes and only jump when there will be another water eruption under you.
-
Stay as little at the lowest point of the section as you possibly can.
-
When you finally cross the middle point, you will want to keep yourself at the first rope until he coast is clear to get all the way to the end.
-
Stage EX57:
-
In the lower right corner of the stage, there is a section with a lot of giant balls.
-
The problem here is getting on to the rope at the right side.
-
The way this is done is to fit in between the second lowest and third lowest giant ball while on the long rope in the middle.
-
First avoid the highest of the two balls so it goes above you, then quickly move upwards a little bit to avoid the lower one. This is quite difficult in offline Group Excursion mode because the screen is so small.
-
After this is done you need to quickly jump down on the platform below, run and drop down to the next, quickly jump onto the rope and then finally slide down on the rope but not too much so you fall off.
-
Near the end of the stage there is a section with two giant balls and some tower of platforms you got to climb while avoiding the giant balls to get to the other side.
-
Stand near the edge, not at the very edge just pretty close to it, just so that the giant ball doesn't hit you.
-
Right after the giant ball has passed above you, you quickly have to jump to the the first platform.
-
From here quickly jump your way to the very middle at the top.
-
If you place yourself correctly, none of the giant balls should be able to hit you.
-
Follow the right ball as it goes right, and do pretty much exactly the reverse of what you did to get to the top, just this time on the left side.
-
Stage EX58:
-
The highest platform row is probably the hardest part of this stage. The hard part is the green animal jumping down on you as you make your way with the ropes. The trick is to make it shoot after you at a high point, but quickly before it jumps at you go far down on the rope so it misses you.
-
The lowest platform row is very easy, simply because the timed disappearing platforms allow you to walk over on to the solid platforms with hot air things (which doesn't really blow up any hot air). On those you can wait and don't have to worry about if the platform you are standing on will disappear.
-
Stage EX59:
-
This stage has a lot of moving platforms. The trick is to jump around on the platforms, either to stay at them as short time as possible or to avoid something.
-
To get all keys in stage EX59 you have to get to the upper left/middle part of the stage, but it's not very easy getting down from there due to the two birds.
-
You are in the upper right part of the left screen of the stage.
-
Jump to the moving platforms on the left.
-
When you get to the next moving platforms to the left, jump over to it.
-
The bird will be circulating the middle part of these moving platforms. You need to make you are moving down exactly as the bird is leaving. This is easily done by just jumping right whenever you see it's not timed well enough.
-
As you go around with the platform, the bird will try to attack you and miss.
-
Next you will need to jump to the moving platforms on the right.
-
From these moving platforms, you will want to jump left to the next section of moving platforms.
-
Here there's another bird but this one is flying much lower and so you can't get under it like last time. Instead you will try to jump to the moving platforms on the left.
-
Do as you did last time to time the platforming going down perfectly to avoid the bird.
-
Jump to the platforms on the left, and from there make your way to the little edge, where there used to be or still is a flare.
-
From here it's not very hard to get down towards the goal section.
-
Stage EX60:
-
The upper right corner section.
-
Don't just follow the moving platforms around in a circle, just to get hit by hot air.
-
Keep yourself at the lower part of the moving platforms and you should be able to jump over to the blue key in two jumps.

| Completed EX area 6 mural. | |
You need to collect all 20 mural pieces from the area in this DLC to get this trophy. There are 10 in Solo Excursion and there are 10 in Group Excursion. There is one mural piece per stage. Some mural pieces are hidden, some not so hidden and some are rather hard to get to.
-
Stage EX51:
-
While the Mural Piece technically is in stage EX51, then you can't access it before you get to stage EX52.
-
It's located in the very upper right corner of stage EX52. If you use a flare here, you will see the path up to it.
-
Stage EX57:
-
Once you get to the lower right part of the stage, you must make your way to the left side by running after and under the giant ball.
-
From here you must make your way to the top of these platforms, which is much easier than you'd think.
-
Take your time and jump when it's safe to jump upwards.
-
The giant balls are easy to avoid by just placing yourself at the edge of the platform at the opposite side of it.
-
Stage EX58:
-
You will probably see this one, but how to get to it might be a mystery to you.
-
There is a hidden path just left of it, which is accessed from the platform path under it. I think under it is the only place you will actually the only place I think you will see it naturally from too.
-
Stage EX59:
-
It's in the upper left corner.
-
I recommend getting to the key on the right side before attempting to get it.
-
Make your way over to upper left moving platforms and if you timed it right.
-
If you timed it right you will be able to get high enough on the circulating moving platforms so you can jump to the next circulating moving platform to the left, whilst on the top without getting hit by the hot air.
-
If this is done right, you should be able to get a free jump over to the mural piece. The key to success is to jump left onto the next platform while you are at the highest point, to avoid the hot air at the right side.

| Cost: 1.99 Trophies: 3 |

Secret Trophies |
 | Alone in a somewhat Scorching Cave Overflowing with Lava | |
| Cleared EX area 7 in the Solo Excursion. | |
To get this trophy you need to beat Championship Mode Area 7 in Solo Excursion.
-
There are several dangers in this area that will pose a challenge.
-
Quicksand.
-
Jump as far as you can from solid ground to get faster over them.
-
Hold the walk button for the opposite direction of where the quicksand takes you to stand still.
-
Spam jump and the direction to get over the quicksand faster.
-
Snakes and lack of bombs.
-
Most of the time you can get past them by just timing the jumping over them part correctly.
-
If there are some you find difficult or annoying, just use a bomb.
-
If you got no bombs, just suicide once to get one. You can't suicide twice for two, so make sure to only use it where you absolutely have to.
-
Phoenix birds.
-
If you are in Solo Excursion mode, you can Save & Quit the game for them to reset to their original position, which can be very useful in certain situations, not all.
-
If you Save & Quit at the correct places, they won't awaken. This is a serious problem if they block your path at some point, more specifically stage EX67 and especially stage EX70. You will have to backtrack to the point of where they respawn, usually at the beginning of the stage, which can be very hard.
-
Make sure to always move a lot.
-
You can use flare to immobilize them for a short period of time.
-
It is safe to touch a phoenix bird when it's immobilized, but make sure you are not touching it when it goes back to not being immobilized.
-
Stage EX62:
-
There is a section where you got to get past 4 bats, divided into 3 parts.
-
When the bats stop dropping, make sure you jump as far as you can from solid ground. This will get you about half of the way in a very short period of time.
-
Spam the jump and left until you get to the other side.
-
Once on the other side and you've got the key, you also got another flare. You may use the flare to make it easier for you to get back or save it for later.
-
Stage EX65:
-
There are two phoenix bird sections of this stage. A left and a right. The right one can safely be made harmless in Solo Excursion by getting to the lowest and rightmost of the keys, and save there. When reloaded you will start out at the same location and the bird won't be waking up, so feel free to get the rest of the keys in peace.
-
Stage EX67:
-
There are 4 giant birds in this stage. They only get activated at a certain point on the first rope you go down with. This means, once you get to the first place you can save and respawn from, you may think you can do the rest of the stage without having to worry about the birds. This is almost correct but there is one big flaw to this plan. At the lower section of the stage, two birds will be sleeping on your path, and you must awaken them to get past them. You can simply get to this point and save, backtrack to awaken them then suicide to get back to where you was near the end. You can then get past the ones that were blocking your path. It might be you can get stuck here if you miss any of the keys in the upper parts of the stage and you save near the bottom.
-
Stage EX68:
-
This entire stage is dedicated to giant rolling balls. The trick here is to first activate them, then go back into safety and quickly once they've passed try to run the path you want to go. They will still be coming after you, but if you've done it fast enough, they will have a small delay, just enough for you to make it.

-
Stage EX67:
-
Go down the leftmost rope to the first big bird and it will awake.
-
Quickly go a little upwards the second rope, and make sure the bird follows you there.
-
When it is trying to attack you, make sure it misses you by going down.
-
Jump onto the platform the bird originally slept at.
-
Use the flare, and you will immobilize the bird and see a secret path to the right. Jump on these platforms to the right.
-
Next screen you will see the other bird, and under it the mural piece. Use a flare to immobilize it and let you see the next platforms.
-
Quickly while it is still paralysed, jump up to it's platform and take the mural piece.
-
Stage EX70:
-
This one can be very tricky, especially in Solo Excursion, and I highly recommend you save up as many flares for this stage as you possibly can.
-
Without Save & Quitting anywhere in the stage, you must make your way to the row where the mural piece is. This is because else the bird blocking the way to the mural piece won't awaken, and trust me, it's not easy getting to the top again without any checkpoints. If you do get into the situation where you got a save very late in the stage, do know that it's possible to make your way to the very top. I've done so and if you step into the elevator from the last stage, that's a checkpoint so you can save there. You still have to make your way down from there and get all the way to the mural piece without dying. It's tricky, but not impossible.
-
You will start out at the right side here and you have to make your way to the left side.
-
Use flare to immobilize the giant bird so you can get all the way to the mural piece.

The half-flying green dragons got a pattern. They fly 3 short flights then one long and high. You can of course also use a bomb to paralyse them for some seconds.
-
Stage EX78:
-
You got to get to the upper right side of the stage to pick up a white key.
-
There are two paths to the right side the one that looks the easiest, the lower one, is pretty much impossible to use get to the right side.
-
I believe you must use the upper one, even if it is tricky to use because of the elevating platforms.
-
The lower path is for getting back to the left side.

You need to collect all 20 mural pieces from the area in this DLC to get this trophy. There are 10 in Solo Excursion and there are 10 in Group Excursion. One mural piece per stage. Some mural pieces are hidden, some not so hidden and some are rather hard to get to.
-
Stage EX80:
-
This mural piece is located off the screen in the bottom right corner.
-
The path to it is blocked, so you need to use a bomb to blow up the path to it.

To get this trophy you need to beat Championship Mode Area 9 in Solo Excursion.
-
There are mainly two types of challenges in this area, and they are often combined.
-
Buttons you have to push.
-
They remove a beam somewhere blocking your path.
-
Don't touch the beam blocking your path as it will only result in death, and so you must get past them before they re-appear after pushing a button.
-
Usually you have to get to another place very fast with some kind of hinder or trap in your way. Learn some pattern or trick to get past them.
-
Sometimes you can also take an item next to the beam blocking your path, then go press the button for quickly to die afterwards. You will then spawn next to where the beam was and you can get past it.
-
The bird men that keeps jumping up and down.
-
Sometimes they can be pretty hard to get past if there are many of them or you got limited space to place yourself in.
-
If they are too hard to avoid, you can then use a flare to knock them out for a little while but do notice they will drop down to their next position and stay there.
-
You can also knock out some few at a time with a bomb, to create a disorder in their pattern.
-
Even if they are knocked out you will die if you touch them.
-
Stage EX86:
-
Giant balls. To get past them on your way down, you may have to jump to the side before the one on the other side hits you.
-
Under all the giant balls on the right side, there will be a place where you got to hit a button to open a path. The problem is just that it's hard to press down the button when the ceiling is falling down on you. You can run all the way to the left, then run back to the right and stand under it and jump for it to open but there is a much easier way. If you place yourself in the middle under the two ceilings coming down on you, neither will move. Then take a step to the right and jump on the button, for then to run left and get the key.
-
Right after the first key doors you will find a section with a lot of buttons. There are two challenges.
-
The one on the left side is all about jumping on the buttons in the correct order. You must re-press most of the buttons, and remember to press the buttons for the beams that is closest first, then the further away later.
-
The one on the right side is all about figuring out how to solve the problem. You want to press the button so you can exactly get to the rope before the two spikes appear.
-
Stage EX90:
-
You don't really need to collect any of the keys in this stage.
-
Get to the place where it requires you to have all the keys to get past.
-
Go right and back to the previous screen. Here is a rope.
-
Climb up this rope and you will see that if you jump correctly, you can make it over to a platform you are not supposed to be able to get to on your left. It's the platform where the next rope to the left is on.
-
From this platform you can climb up a rope to the platform above, then go right for another rope that takes you to the area goal.
-
Do not forget to take the mural piece.

-
Stage EX84:
-
You got to blow up the wall behind the stage goal.
-
Stage EX87:
-
This one is not obtainable until you activate the goal at the end of the stage.
-
Once it's activated, don't use it to get down to the next stage, instead use a flare and zoom out with the right stick, and you will see far above you a path over to the mural piece.
-
You need to backtrack the stage a little bit, and get up to where the platform that will take you to the gold piece is.
-
Here you will need to use the elevator thing that was activated when you activated the goal in the stage. It will take you down to the mural piece safely.
-
Stage EX88:
-
You may want to abuse the fact that you respawn pretty quickly and at the last item you took.
-
If you don't want to die then I recommend attracting it at the left side, for then to run over to the right and take the mural piece there. I'm pretty sure you will die after taking it too.

 | Alone in the truly heinous Lair of a Mysterious Creature | |

To get this trophy you need to beat Championship Mode Area 10 in Solo Excursion.
-
Common dangers:
-
Bouncepads.
-
Where you jump at them and from what height can affect the result.
-
You can also try to hold down a directional button to affect the result, though very hard and usually extremely little result.
-
Hot air eruptors.
-
Use their property of moving you to an exact position once bounced into. Way more precise than any normal jumping.
-
Stage EX92:
-
At some point near the right bottom side, there will be a rope you need to climb down and there's a long streak of hot air eruptors. The trick here is to jump quickly after the hot air has disappeared and jump from a bit of a distance from the rope, so you will be landing at a lower point of the rope.
-
Stage EX94:
-
You should save before getting the mural piece in this stage.
-
You should practice getting the mural piece in this stage in Solo Excursion first. This way you can do it on your first attempt in Group Excursion.
-
In the upper left corner of the stage there is a section where you got to jump over one of those machines using two circulating platforms.
-
Jump from the rope when it's going away from you.
-
Walk left until you get to the a point where the platform drops a bit. Stand before the drop.
-
Wait for the machine to turn around.
-
When you are spotted it will start moving against you.
-
There are two drops in this platform and a middle point between the two drops. When the machine has gotten up on this mid-point, drop down to the little drop in front of you to the left.
-
If the machine stopped at the very middle of the the middle point between the two drops, you can now use one of the circulating platforms to get above it and jump onto the next circulating platforms and the rest should be easy.
-
You should jump on a circulating platform that is pretty far away from the machine, exactly when you get above it it starts moving right. Remember to keep on the right side of the circulating platform so you don't touch the machine as you go up above it.
-
Stage EX96:
-
Third row from the top on the right side is somewhat tricky. If you've used flares on this stage earlier you might have made the three synced jumping birds out of sync or the one under, so make sure they are the way you want them to be.
-
You can try to use the flare to make one of the three out of sync with the other ones for a pretty easy time.
-
You can use the flare in the row above to make the three synced jumping birds become synced with the one under or out of sync.
-
You can also use bombs to make the jumping birds jump out of sync, especially the triple.
-
Stage EX100:
-
This is the second easiest stage in this area but it will try to trick you into doing something impossible.
-
You can't get to the area goal you so easily will spot when you explore the stage.
-
The real area goal you are supposed to get to is located at the bottom of the stage, right under the two headed dog.
-
You will need to blow up the path to it with several bombs.

| Completed EX area 10 mural. | (1) |
You need to collect all 20 mural pieces from the area in this DLC to get this trophy. There are 10 in Solo Excursion and there are 10 in Group Excursion. One mural piece per stage. Some mural pieces are hidden, some not so hidden and some are rather hard to get to.
-
Stage EX91:
-
It's on the platform to the right, the one with all the bumpers on. You got to jump exactly on the middle of the second one, while timing it so you don't get hit by the giant ball. Place a bomb, escape, then go and fetch the mural piece.
-
Stage EX93:
-
It's in the upper left corner, hard to miss and somewhat hard to guess what to do to get it. The challenge here is to get up the rope before the giant rolling rock hits you. It's easily done by going right after jumping over the two first hot air eruptors then quickly jumping over the two next and climbing up the rope. The trick is with other word going right, so you let the leftmost of the two first hot air eruptors hit bump you up to the next ledge.
-
Stage EX94:
-
This is by far the most annoying mural piece in the entire game.
-
You need to blow up the wall to the right of the stage goal.
-
There you will find a speed medicine that makes you able to run and jump many times normal speed and length.
-
This item is of course what you need to use to get to the mural piece.
-
You must place yourself pretty close to the two hot air eruptors. Try making it so the line with the crack in the platform design is in line with the back of his legs, not the shoes but the back of his legs. When the time is right to jump over the double hot air eruptors you must press left extremely quickly followed by jump. If done right you should make a jump from the position you are currently standing in and make it over safely.
-
There are a total of three speed medicines if you keep blowing up the wall to the right of the stage goal.
-
I highly recommend practising this one in Solo Excursion before attempting it in Group Excursion.
-
Stage EX95:
-
You need to blow up the wall in almost bottom but very right corner.
-
Stage EX96:
-
It's located under the second row of platforms on the left side.
-
You need to go to the bottom of the rope in the middle and just drop down. From there you will want to use the flare. Now your path is easy to see.
-
Just use flare often enough to make the enemies pretty harmless, just know that they will jump once in between two flares.
-
Stage EX97:
-
It's pretty hard to miss if you zoom out in the right section of this stage. You will see it's located mid-right.
-
To get to it, you need to jump your way over to it, but there will be some jumping birds around you. To avoid these jumping birds just swap between going up and down on the elevators while they are jumping above you, but also so high that the ones under can't hit you.
-
You may want to rush a little. To get over to the other side faster, just wait for the solid platforms to get "extended" by the elevator and jump from the elevator.
-
Stage EX98:
-
This one is hidden behind the purple crystal. In the section on the left side with all the bats and one of those jumping birds there is a wall on the left side you can blow up.
-
Stage EX99:
-
You can suicide to make this one a whole lot easier.
-
It's kind of hard to miss it but it's located around mid-right section. You will need to jump down some crumbling platforms with spikes coming down on you and a giant ball trying to hit you from the side.
-
When the giant ball is going away from you and is getting near its rightmost point, you will want to jump down to the 4th of the crumbling platforms.
-
Quickly jump right and you should be able to go under the giant ball while it's over your head to the left.
-
Run over to the platforms, and drop down to the items under. You will die, but also obtain the items thus respawn from down there. Now the piece should be easy to get.
