Veteran Trophy in Mass Effect 3

  • Veteran

    Kill 5,000 enemies.

    How to unlock Veteran

Pretty self-explanatory. The good thing here is that the kills that count towards this trophy are the totals over all playthroughs and in online play. You’ll easily get this over the course of the game. Also, any kills that you had before you died are not reset, they will count to your total. I ended up my first playthrough on Insanity with about 1800 kills, so there will be some grinding for this trophy.

    Reapers

    • Husk - Basic reaper enemy. Swarms you with melee attacks. Has a single health bar.
    • Cannibal - The other basic reaper enemy. Hangs back, shoots, and attempts to flank from cover. Also uses grenades. Will consume fallen cannibals to restore health. Has a single health bar.
    • Marauder - Frequently uses cover and shoots at you. Can restore health to husks and cannibals. Has a shield and health bar.
    • Ravager - Mobile turret. Fires three shots before requiring a recharge. Releases swarmers from it's egg sac. Has a single armor bar.
    • Banshee - Uses Biotic Charge to come straight at you. Will kill you instantly when it grabs you. Uses a Nova like power to stun you and drain your shields. Also uses a projectile attack that will wipeout your shields and wear down your health. Has a barrier and health bar.
    • Brute - Very large enemy that charges enemies. Getting hit with a charge will wipe out your shields. Also has a powerful close range melee attack. Has a single armor bar.
    • Harvester - Spawns other basic reaper enemies like husks, cannibals, and marauders. Has a powerful beam attack that will wipe out your shields. Has a single armor bar.
    • Swarmers - Small insect like enemies that are released from ravagers. Extremely weak, but easy to miss on the battlefield. Will leap at you and and slowly drain your shields.

    Cerberus

    • Assault Trooper - The basic Cerberus enemy. Fires from range and utilizes grenades, but will use a melee attack if you get close. Has a single health bar.
    • Centurion - The other most common Cerberus enemy. Uses smoke grenades to hide and move around. Will fire from cover and use grenades. Has a shield and health bar.
    • Combat Engineer - Constructs turrets and can repair them. Has a shield and health bar.
    • Nemesis - Cerberus sniper units. Stays in cover and fires at you. Targeting is indicated by the red laser. Has a shield and health bar.
    • Phantom - Very fast moving enemy that can shoot lasers from their hands and has a powerful melee attack. Has a barrier and a health bar.
    • Atlas - Extremely powerful enemy. Fires missiles and cannons at you. Has a shield and health bar that are both very strong and will take many hits to bring down.
    • Guardian - Carries a shield in front and uses it as cover to shoot out from behind. Biotic powers can knock them back or take away the shields. Has a small opening in the shield to see through that can be used for a head shot. Has a single health bar.

    Geth

    • Trooper - The basic geth enemy. Like the Cerberus trooper and cannibal, it will shoot at you. Unlike those two, it will not use grenades. Has a single health bar.
    • Rocket Trooper - Fires rockets at you from cover. A single rocket will knock you out of cover and drain your shields. Has shield and health bars.
    • Hunter - Stays cloaked and attempts to flank you. Is slightly stronger than the regular troopers, but the cloaking makes them a bit tougher. Has shields and health bars.
    • Prime - The toughest geth enemy. Has a powerful gun that will drop your shields quickly. Also deploys combat drones and turrets. Will continually move towards you. Has a powerful shield and strong armor bars.
    • Pyro - The geth close range trooper. It will lessen the distance between you and attack with flamethrowers. Has shields and a health bar.

  • This sounds quite difficult, unless there'll be loads of easy enemies to grind.
  • Depends on if it's counting multiplayer kills too. I can't imagine I killed 5,000 enemies in three full playthroughs of ME2.
  • I started multiplayer after I beat the single player and my first kill showed 1/5000 for veteran. Hopefully that means it does count, but since it only showed one, I'm guessing the remaining kills in single player did not count. I got the soldier trophy a bit before I finished the storyline. This being the case, may have to get all of the kills in either multiplayer or single player, but not a combination of both.
  • I beat the game yesterday and was at 1100 enemies so at least 3 more run-throughs should do it hopefully
  • It counts for both combined, I finished the story at around 800 kills, got the 750 kill trophy in it, then started MP and now im up to 1400+ kills
  • i meant the 250 kill trophy, there should be an edit option lol
  • This trophy is cumulative, it will just count all the kills you do, the number isn't lost after you die or complete the game. So basically, you can farm on an easy area with a lot of easy to kill enemies, then die on purpose, and repeat until it unlocks. (same with Pyromaniac, sky high, overload specialist, etc.. They're all cumulative)
  • The one of the best ways is to play aggressively and with good teammates on MP. Been playing MP only since the game came out, and already have 2500+ kills registered. After I noticed that most of the other kill/use biotics-techs' trophies were jacked up in numbers (100 instead of 25 like in ME2), I tested this on MP, and all trophies that have require a cumulative number of X kills can be obtained both ways.
  • Anyone know if it is also cumulative over multiple play throughs with completely different characters (not new game+)??
  • This trophy is grindtastic. I just reached Earth on my second playthrough, and between those two and leveling a multiplayer Engineer to level 20 I have about 3800 kills. This is probably gonna be the last one a lot of people unlock.
  • Yup it is my last one and im around 3500 at rannoch, very easy way of doing it though is to put the difficulty to narrative and go on a killing spree rushing through missions and skipping cut scenes
  • This is one of the most unimaginative, least inspired trophies I've ever seen. Seriously? "Just grind the shit out of everything over and over for hours on end?" Thanks, trophy designers. Great job. Such a fun, wholesome challenge.
  • i did an insanity run from the start. first play through.. and unleashed all the swarmers i could. also to get easy bruiser kills. so i ended up having almost 1750 kills - after the first playthrough. so on easy and just killing swarmers and getting yourself killed in certain missions. or missions where you have to defend thessia. and get on the huge ground mounted gun and shoot husks.. just reload everytime you are about to pass. that should give you around 10-20 kills each run. grinding like this sucks though.
  • so if i started a whole brand new playthrough and dont import a previous ME3 save file the kills i get will still count toward the trophy? Was hoping it would cause i wanted to have a playthrough with Wrex and Ashley on my team this time around somehow Wrex died on my ME2 file :/
  • Wrex died???? noooooooo! he has the best lines! I did 2 playthroughs and then played multiplayer a lot. that's how i got this one
  • It took me one full normal playthrough doing all side missions, one full insanity playthrough doing all side missions, and 10-20 hours (wasn't paying much attention) of multiplayer grinding.
  • got it after +/- 14h on first normal playthrough.
  • that's how i'm doing it: I'm using Overload level 6 ('Narrative' difficulty, one shot one kill). I'm using overload so you cannot miss, I'm killing ~500 Cannibals in 30 minutes...not bad. WARNING: this trophy causes eye pain!
  • Single Player twice on Normal + Defender = 4000 enemies killed and Insane left to do so I guess no grind needed for this non-grinding trophy that seemed like another generic grind.
  • Well it's officially my last trophy now, after one SP playthrough (insanity with imported ME2 Infiltrator) and an MP level of 97. I have 4117 kills. MP wasn't too bad, considering I needed it for the level 10 weapon, overload and sky high trophies as well after finishing the SP campaign, but I still need almost 900 kills = 5 to 6 hours of multiplayer grinding. Maybe I'll wait for the DLC...
  • #20 - you must have played it rather weird then. because i did an SP playthrough with an imported lvl 30 infiltrator - and made it through the game on insanity (no need to play on the wimpy levels) and after just a few hours of mp playing, I got 3200. and do approx 50-100 for each mp session. so that's not many hours left of gameplay. went from 1700 - 3200 in less than a day.
  • After my first playrhough on normal + some MP (200k off from lv 20) I'm at 2k kills. Doesn't seem like a bad trophy, I'm pretty sure I'm close (or over) 4k kills after my insanity playthrough and 1k kills isn't that bad.
  • A good method would be to play MP alone on bronze, with a player having a very good sniper rifle, you have instant kill on trash ennemies. You will have ton of ennemies, and on some waves they keep respawning until you get the objective. I did not try it yet but it is surely a good method.
  • AFter some research on internet there is a very good farming point on earth at the beginning of the game, with infinite respawning ennemy. Here is a youtube video (thx VespereAzure) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXEO4VqMbj8
  • Comment #24 by wiimka, thank you very much that method was awsome. I could get 500 kills in just less than 20 min. If you stand at the right place you have "unlimited" ammo too, as you take the ammo asap it spawns. Made kills faster when I didn't need to run to get them. Thanks again!
  • Comment #24 by Wiimka, thanks for that method I can't wait to try it out, I was on 2500 kills when it got reset!! Saying that I found a slightly different method online for farming that area which I'd just like to share: Basically you do exactly what you do in the video you posted except when you start the game you pick the engineer class and then upgrade the attack drone to full. When you get to the area at the start of the game with the injured soldier you can unleash your attack drone and kill the cannibals yourself or just leave the drone to do all the killing for you. Admittedly I've not tried either as of yet, trying to earn the 'Defender' trophy first, but I hope that method is useful too
  • it does actually count multiplayer kills as well as single player kills
  • I have too get up to 1000 & 5000 kills still
  • The combat simulator on the Citadel dlc also works for this.
  • Comment #26 by Majero88 - Good method there, works well. It works much better if you fully upgrade the Sentry Gun as well as the Attack Drone :) The only downside is that you need to periodically redo them as they either lose their shields or the enemies stop spawning for a little while and they just stop working. Currently at 3000 out of 5000, and I expect it will finish it off in about 2 to 3 hours :)
  • @24 thanks for the video, trying different attacks I found this: if you import a ME3 Soldier you'll have Cryo Ammo and Concussive Shot (both of them at max hopefully), when trying the method in the video i found a "little" problem, after some kills the enemies stop respawning because of the number of bodies laying in the ground, here's the trick i found to solve this: equip Cryo Ammo and if you have Concussive Shot with the effects of the ammo you're using then boom, 1 Concussive Shot kills 1 enemy in a single shot and the body destroys itself preventing the number of bodies on the ground, besides Concussive Shot recharges so quickly that can spam R2 without problem, hope it helps, by the way i managed to get 500 kills in about 10-15 min using this method
  • I was all proud for a second, because my kill count after my first playthrough (on Insanity) was a bit higher than most of the other people in here. Then I realized that probably just means I died way more than all of you. :-/
  • Lets do it up!!! I will try that method cryp and concussion shott
  • with 2 playthroughs, one normal and on on insanity, plus 10 hrs on MP, get just 3500 :/ farming gere we go..
  • If you have the Citadel DLC, then the Armax Arena will count towards the kills. That is a good place to farm.
  • One of the useless and waste of time Trophy ever did 2 playthroughs both narrative and insanity and ended up with only 2477 kills. The rest I had to farm at the beginning of the game after watching a video for kills. Took me nearly 2hrs to farm the remaining kills.
