Introduction:

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a tie-in game to the recently released movie from DreamWorks. The events in the game take place following the immediate end of the movie with the exact same namesake. If you have not seen the movie and do not want anything ruined for you, this game does contain spoilers to the movie, albeit minor ones.

The game has a few full rendered cut scenes that look decent enough, but a majority of the game is done through much lesser quality cut scenes that are choppy, poorly rendered, and quite frankly look more PS2 quality then the powerhouse PS3 is capable of. A good example of rushing a product to market to be released in time, and not putting a full effort into a quality game. This game is aimed at a younger audience, but as most on this website can also guess, it is also a trophy hunter game.

The action is fairly simple and fairly straightforward. The game could easily be an under 3 hour plat if it wasn't for the collectibles. Finding them is not necessarily the hardest part, but the poor game design is. there is no way to look up your progress in a zone of how many of anything you have received or found except a quick message that pops up on the screen. You can look up total game numbers, but that is it. This causes the game to drag on and become a burden to many who have played it. To assist with this, I have made a collectibles guide to every single item in the game, found HERE.

A few details about the game: The game has no difficulty setting, so it is the same for all. Full rendered scenes cannot be skipped, but all in-game scenes can be skipped by pressing at any time. Do note that while in cut scenes you can acquire items by proximity to them. The game auto saves at each zone crossing, so if you quit or lose power for any reason it will remember everything up to before the current room you are in.

Glitches. I have discovered a handful of bugs while playing.
· Some containers smash and items never drop. Image of item keeps reappearing and falling through the floor. Can be solved by exiting 1 zone away and returning, then just break the same box again and item should be back to normal. 2 boxes did this to me, both in Croc – Bamboo Forest.
· Often pausing to memorabilia screen causes game freeze. To check collectible usage I had to pause a lot. Game froze to death about every 10 pauses it seemed when under heavy use.
· Pause too quick on a new loading level and the memorabilia menu only loads up first screen. Only 1 page. Can just unpause to fix.
· Lingering messages – do not leave screen, Heroes will pop up and give advice and their rather large text box does not go away afterwards. Can fix by pausing.
· Item amount pop-up does not show sometimes, only blinks and goes away. If you get an item and another event occurs at the same time, it can cause the message window showing current item amounts to vanish before you can read it. Also, do not pause while this message is up as it also causes it to vanish.
· I ended the game with 601 Steel…got 1 extra somehow duirng the Ox levels.

Roadmap

Step 1: Complete 1 of the Master's Levels
At the game’s beginning, you are given the choice of 3 masters: Ox, Croc, and Shifu. You can choose any 1 of the 3 to play from the get go. To get the most out of the storyline, and for the quickest play through, I recommend this order: Croc => Shifu => Ox.

Before you choose a master and begin, look around the Training Hall. There are breakable items here that count towards the total and need to be collected. See the collectibles guide HERE for totals, locations and a zone walkthrough HERE. Once you have found them all (that you can for right now at least) choose Croc and begin his storyline.

Ensure as you play through the levels for each Master, you focus on gaining all of the combat based trophies as soon as you can. Especially the ones involving Super Skills and Weapons. The trophy guide explains how to do each.

Step 2: Complete the 2nd of the Master's levels
Select Shifu next.

Step 3: Complete the 3rd and final of the Master's levels
Select Ox next.

Step 4: Clean-up
When you return to the Training Hall after the 3 master’s levels are completed, it will commence the final fight series. Allow this to happen until it asks you to go to the Undercity. Before going there to fight the last boss, you can now go around to previously beaten levels and do clean-up for collectibles you have missed due to a lack of Super Skills at the time. Ensure you have all of the combat based trophies before going onto the last boss. Also I have a extra guide on the easiest to miss collectibles HERE.

Step 5: Fight the Last Boss
Go to Undercity to fight the last series of battles and get the final collectibles. You should have the Plat before the credits even roll.

Step 6: New Game?
Once the final boss has been beaten, the game opens up for freeplay. You can revisit any stage. If you are missing any collectibles, just return to the zones you need to in order to get them. Stages in post game may not spawn enemies any more. It is unknown what causes them to spawn or not in post-game.

Therefore if you failed to get all of the combat based trophies, collected all of the metal, and then beat the final boss, you may miss the combat trophies.

The easiest solution is to pay attention on your first playthrough and get these trophies as they come along. None are very difficult to get, and the guide points out how to get each one with little trouble.

If you missed any though, you can very easily just start a new game. DO NOT save over your old file. Use a new save slot. Then just rip through the game ignoring all activities except fights and focus on only the combat trophy you need. You can select the Master you need from the beginning, and each path takes less than 30 min when you skip scenes and don't break all of the pots/boxes/etc...

[PS3T Would Like to Thank Metal_Jaws for this Roadmap]

Platinum Trophy
Earn all Memorabilia (10)

This does not have to be on one play through or save file in the game. Trophy will unlock when all other trophies have been earned on one PSN profile. The game lets you track progress towards these goals in the main menu and pause menu by viewing the Memorabilia option.

Student of Shifu
Learn Master Shifu's slick Kung Fu Curl technique

You will get this during the Shifu levels. Story related, cannot be missed. This skill enables you to enter buildings and caves with small holes that were previously inaccessible. It also attacks enemies by quickly rolling across the level in a line.

Master Shifu
Bowl over 10 Enemies with Kung Fu Curl

See Master Ox.

Student of Master Croc
Learn Master Croc's incredible Acu-punch technique

You will get this during the Croc levels. Story related, cannot be missed. This skill enables you to destroy some walls. It also can seek and attack several enemies in a close group. A very handy skill in all mob fights going forward.

Master Croc
Stun 10 Enemies with Acu-punch

See Master Ox.

Student of Master Ox
Learn Master Ox's ground-pounding Thunder Strike technique

You will get this during the Ox levels. Story related, cannot be missed. This skill enables you to destroy some big wooden doors that were previously inaccessible to you. It also hurts enemies within close proximity to you, and can destroy the shields that the wolves carry.

Master Ox
Smash 10 Enemy Shields with Thunder Strike

Getting these skills are story line driven and cannot be missed. It is best to go for these trophies right after you get the skill until they are completed. After you receive you super skill from any of the Masters, just use it regularly on enemies and this will pop very quickly. Works best if you stand near one of the refill stations to replenish your meter. It is usually most effective against groups of enemies standing together. Ensure you complete these tasks before the final boss, as it will clear the map of most enemies at that point.

For Master Ox, look for the wolves that hold shields, and use the Thunder Strike next to them. This skill is obtained close to the end of the game (or whatever Master you picked 3rd) so ensure you obtain this trophy before moving onto the final levels. Note that if you die, your kill count carries over so if you have any trouble getting it, just find an area with at least 1 shielded soldier, kill them, let yourself die, and repeat until the trophy pops. Does not neagtively affect your game by dying in anyway (but maybe pride).

Student of the Blade
Defeat your first enemy with a weapon

See Blade Master.

Blade Master
Defeat 10 Enemies while holding a weapon

There is no point in the game where it will teach or force you to do this particular skill. You must do so on your own, so please ensure to do so before the end of the game. Once the game has been beaten, enemies tend to stop spawning. This can be done with the guitar or the sausage.

There is no one place this has to be done at, but I recommend the Shifu level - Village. At the start of level you will be given the chance to pick up a guitar from the first building on the right. Do so and get all the kills you can with it. The 2 wolves in the huts firing guns cannot be defeated with it. After all of the enemies are dead, let the 2 shooting wolves kill you. You will re-spawn in town from the beginning of scene, but you also keep your kill count. Grab the guitar once again, then kill a few more enemies and the trophy will pop.

Claws of Courage
Get a boost from Tigress

You will get this during the Croc levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Wings of Walloping
Help Crane defeat the wolves

You will get this during the Croc levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Pincers of Power
Rescue Mantis in the tunnel

You will get this during the Shifu levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Tail of Triumph
Rescue Monkey from the Komodos

You will get this during the Ox levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Fangs of Fury
Rescue Viper in the undercity

You will get this during the Final levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Find 600 Gold (1)

All 3 materials come in amounts of 1, 5, and 20 in items (as described in each trophy block of the 3 metals). They are hidden in almost every level, either just lying on the ground or hidden in containers. Watch the update message you get when you pick one up to see how many total are in one area. Complete game total amount can be tracked in the main/pause menu option Memorabilia. Just search around, jump, and break everything in a level and you will find most of them with little problem. Some are hidden in hard to see areas or are obscured. Best rule of thumb is to never leave an area until you have found all of the items. This can be the most time consuming and frustrating part of this game. If you want to know the exact locations of every single item, see my collectibles guide HERE.

One warning, in each Master’s path you learn a new super skill. All of these skills allow you to reach areas with collectibles you could not before. That means no matter which path you choose, there will be at least 1-2 zones with items you cannot get until later. Mark these and remember them (as game will not tell you), because you will need to revisit these when you have the right super skill. Because this is very hard to do task, I made a Materials Walkthrough for each zone (follows roadmap in level choices) HERE. Also I have a extra guide on the easiest to miss collectibles HERE.

Helped into the Harbor
Defeat the Wolf Leader Once

See Crushed by Master Croc

Crushed by Master Croc
Defeat the Wolf Leader 3 Times

You will get this during the Croc levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Strategies:

Croc fight#1 – River Shrine, your best bet is to doge him and wait for him to turn red, then push to activate your counter and that will do massive damage to him. Otherwise, wait for him to start spinning, and again dodge him and when he gets dizzy, attack him then with strong attacks. You can also run in and hit him while he stands there taunting you. There is also some food around so no worries if you get hit. You can attack him with when he is stunned, and if you are facing the river it can knock him into the water, quickly ending the match also.

Croc fight #2 – Wolf Hideout, same as before, but added are the cannoneers. If you turn red, push right away and you will take out one cannon tower each time. Use same tactics as before to fight him, just dodge more as you are on a small platform.

Croc Fight #3 – Temple of Clear Water, The Wolf Boss does not really change his tactics much in fights, just changes the surroundings. You are again in a close space, and now you have many minions added to the fight. The good news is there is a refill station here, so use Acu-punch all you want. Use counter a lot as well, as it does massive damage.
Note: after you beat him you will be teleported outside, chose to go back into the temple and then exit to get to the roof.

Tumbled from the Tower
Defeat the Gorilla Leader Once

See Vanquished in the Village

Vanquished in the Village
Defeat the Gorilla Leader 2 Times

You will get this during the Shifu levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Strategies:

Gorilla Fight #1 – Palace Tower, This is a Donkey Kong match. Notice his life bar is “guarded”. All you need to do is avoid him, run in circles and jump when he lands on the ground. You can see where he is going to land with jumps by his shadow on the ground. Wait for him to retreat to the NW corner by the barrels (look for shadow there) then immediately run over to him at hit the barrel in his hands he is trying to lift over his head. He will not attack you here except for throwing this barrel in this small window of time, so you need to be quick. Each time you hit him while he has the barrel, I block of his lifebar guard is removed. Repeat process until whole lifebar is open. Then fight him with relative ease using strong attacks and dodges. Look for a counter opportunity with to do massive damage.

Gorilla Fight #2 – Village, Once again you must avoid him at all costs while we tries to attack you from the start. His lifebar is again guarded. Keep avoiding him until he jumps into the far north onto a small platform. He will throw more objects at you to avoid. Then his minions will then launch flaming projectiles at you while you glow red. Use your counter with while you are red to send it back to hit the Gorilla and unlock his lifebar. Rinse and repeat. Once fully unlocked use the same tactics as before. 1 Counter from me took 3 squares of life off of him…

Escaped the Enemy
Escape your first encounter with Xiao Dan

You will get this during the Ox levels. Story related, cannot be missed.

Strategy:

Fight is not that hard. He send minions after you while also dropping stones from above. Keep on the move in a kind of circle pattern and the rocks don’t really factor in. I never got hit by them even once. Attack Xiao Dan with normal strategies used before- strong attacks in open windows, dodge a lot, and look for counter opportunities.

After you defeat him, there is no need to hurry. Although they say to run, there is no timer set, so take the time to explore and get all of the collectibles before you go. You can revisit this zone later if you need to though. Once you are ready, go to monkey.

Demolished the Dragon
Defeat Xiao Dan in Combat

You will get this during the final level. Story related, cannot be missed.

Strategy:

This is the final fight. After this, there are much fewer enemies on the map, but it will be open to explore in freeplay, so ensure you have all of the “# of enemy kills” and combat trophies by this point. There are a few collectibles here, which you should get before the fight is done. They are easy to see, and should top off your collections at 600 (no gold, 15 Iron, 20 steel).

Xiao Dan will hang back and send minions to fight you in 2 waves. There is a refill station to the left so not much to worry about, and some life also lying around. After the Komodos, he will shoot fireballs which can be countered when Po glows red. One fireball attack of his is screen wide in a circle-pattern and then hits in the middle lastly, so avoid it by standing in the middle of the fire and then jump out right before the end of the attack. Then Xiao jumps down to fight. Use normal tactics here- strong attacks, dodge, counters.

After a few lifebars are removed, he jumps up and repeats the whole process. Rinse and repeat. The last time he jumps up, he will have little to no life. You need to survive the Komodos and fireball attacks one more time, but the final fireball you counter with, will end the fight.

Last trophy pops, then Plat (if you did this all correctly), and then credits…
