This Road Map & Trophy Guide is originally based on the Japanese Version of Final Fantasy XIII-2. As such, when the English Version is released, there will be inevitable differences in some of the enemy names, item names, location names and so forth, because somehow I doubt Square Enix will refer to "crystals that open gates" as "Ooparts" in the English Version. When the time comes, I will need to rely on the community to let me know which names need to be changed. Please leave me a note in this thread or as a Visitor Message and I will make modifications as soon as I can.
Like the first Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2 comes with Custom Themes for the XMB that are unlocked as you earn trophies and are accessible from the main menu, under "Special." Also like the first Final Fantasy XIII, installing these themes and continuing forward in the game - without quitting first - can cause certain trophies to not unlock, even if the requirements are met. Just to be safe, quit the game after installing these themes, or don't bother with them at all until you've obtained the Platinum.
Finally, note that you DO NOT need a Final Fantasy XIII Save File in order to play (and Platinum) Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Step #1 (20-30 Hours) - Complete the Main Story
First and foremost, all trophies except Fair Fighter can be earned on Easy Difficulty. You can change difficulties in the Options menu at any time, so if you want to maximize speed to the and don't care about being challenged, set it to Easy Difficulty from the get-go and leave it that way until it's time for Fair Fighter .
There's no need to worry a lot about trophies at this time; simply play to the end of the main story and enjoy it. You will unlock the following story-related trophies:
Early Riser (Begin Episode 1)
Time Traveler (Begin Episode 2)
Future Espier (Begin Episode 3A)
Past Gazer (Begin Episode 3B)
Threat Facer (Begin Episode 4)
Sooth Seeker (Begin Episode 5)
Promise Keeper (Begin Episode 6)
Epic Finisher (Beat the Main Story)
In addition to the aforementioned, you should also earn en route to the end of the main story:
Budding Hunter (Defeat 100 Enemies)
No Retreat (Win 50 Battles w/o Retry)
Quick Draw (Perform 50 Preemptive Strikes)
Staggering (Stagger 50 Enemies)
Wild Thing (Perform 100 Feral Links)
Also en route to the end of the main story, if you choose to be ambitious in terms of boss battle ranks, you can save some time and knock out:
Trigger Finger (5 Cinematic Bonus Rewards in Episodes 2-4)
Scarlet Medal (5 Star Rank on a boss in Episode 2)
Cerulean Medal (5 Star Rank on a boss in Episode 4)
Obsidian Medal (5 Star Rank on a boss in Episode 6)
Chronosavior (5 Star Rank on the last boss in Episode 6)
During this step, try to fight as much and as often as you can; don't run from fights, as 100% Enemy Report is a requirement for one of the Fragments (See Step #2 and the Defragmented trophy). Similarly, explore each and every corner of the maps; you will need to find Reversal Rocks from each area (most are in treasure chests) in order to do Time Reversals later on, and like 100% Enemy Report, 100% Map Completion of every location is also a requirement for not just one, but TEN Fragments. You may also find Wild Artifacts (crystals that open Blue Gates) as you explore; don't use them recklessly at this point and get side-tracked, save them for Step #2. Finally, check out the Anomalous trophy, as you can (and should) earn Paradox Ending #1 when you reach Episode 5.
Step #2 (20-30 Hours) - Work Toward Defragmented
Now that you've completed the main story, be sure to talk to the Chocobo Girl in Serendipity to obtain the "Paradox Scope" Fragment Skill. Paradox Scope allows you to earn Paradox Endings which are a part of an even greater goal: the Defragmented trophy.
There are 160 Fragments to collect in Final Fantasy XIII-2. About ~40 or so will come naturally en route to the end of the main story, and after that it is a fairly non-linear ~120 side-quest scavenger hunt across all of the previously visited areas as well as a dozen or so more that can be accessed via opening Blue Gates with Wild Artifacts. Refer to the Defragmented trophy for more information.
In this step, you will unlock:
Fragmented (Collect all Fragments in 1 Fragment Category)
Big Game Hunter (Defeat Immortal, Long Gui, Ochu, and Yomi: Required for 4 Fragments)
Anomalous (See all 8 Paradox Endings: Required for 8 Fragments, as well as the Secret Ending after all 160 Fragments have been collected)
Defragmented (Collect all 160 Fragments)
In addition to the aforementioned, you should also earn en route to all 160 Fragments:
Strategist (Perform 1,000 Paradigm Shifts)
Serendipitous (Earn 10,000 Casino Coins in Serendipity)
Choco-boco-holic (Spend 100,000 Gil)
If you start to burn out on the 160 Fragment hunt, feel free to dabble in the trophies listed in Step #3.
Step #3 - Clean Up (If Necessary)
At this point, you might still be missing a few trophies that are not necessarily required to complete the main story or collect all 160 Fragments:
Clock Stopper (Perform 100 CONSECUTIVE Preemptive Strikes)
Saddle Sore (Travel 10,000 steps while on a Chocobo)
Supreme Being (Reach Level 99 in all 6 Roles)
Beast Tamer (Befriend Don Tonberry)
Fair Fighter (Defeat Raspatil on Normal Difficulty)
Giant's Fist (Deal 99,999 damage in a Single Attack)
Refer to the individual trophies for methods on how to obtain these (and any others you might still need).
Good luck, and enjoy Final Fantasy XIII-2!
