INTRODUCTION
Dungeon Defenders is an Action RPG-Tower Defense hybrid kind of game where you get to play as any of 4 available hero classes - Apprentice, Squire, Huntress, and the Monk, and defend against waves of monsters. Each class has a unique set of abilities and towers, and much like RPGs they can buy and/or obtain weapons and gear to boost their stats.
Heroes will gain experience as you defeat Monsters, and stat points can be assigned as you choose when your Hero levels up. The maximum level cap at the moment is Level 70.
The game features 12 Campaign Levels, 12 Challenge Maps, a PvP Hero Arena, and a Bonus Level exclusive to the PS3. These can be played with up to 4 players in Local Co-Op on a single PS3, 4 players in Online Co-Op, or a combination of both.
ROADMAP
There is much to learn about the game's mechanics before we start going after trophies, so we highly recommend reading our Dungeon Defenders - Encyclopedia for some insight to the game.
Initial Step: Complete the Tutorial
The Tutorial provided ingame shows you the basic controls of playing the game, but it is by no means comprehensive and leaves you to experiment and find out the rest for yourself. Completing the tutorial will unlock Good Student
Step 1: Develop a Tower-Squire to Level 70 / Complete the Campaign on Medium
It is generally agreed among the DD community that the best Hero for defense (and grinding levels) is the Squire. The Squire is a hero who has a great range of tower types that are permanent and deal non-elemental damage. The Bouncer Blockade, Harpoon Turret, Bowling Ball Turret, and Slice-&-Dice Blockade will be the foundations of your defense for the entire game.
As a Tower-Squire, the most important stats are Defense Health and Defense Damage. For every level gained, you should be putting 2 points into each of these stats until you hit the 70 value cap (it can be boosted further through equipment). Once you’ve maxed out the first two, focus on Defense Attack Rate and spread the rest evenly into Defense Area of Effect, Hero Speed and Hero Casting Rate.
For the task of completing the Campaign, we recommend Medium difficulty because the amount of experience gained and quality of equipment dropped by enemies scales with difficulty of the game, and Medium difficulty is ideal in that it is not too easy with little rewards but neither is it impossible for a character just starting out. You can refer to our Campaign Walkthrough for Maps and Guides to beating the game.
The first level - Deeper Wells, is an ideal first stop for grinding out XP. It’s really straightforward and you only need a Bouncer Blockade and Harpoon Turret to cover the 4 chokepoints. Upon hitting Level 20, you will unlock the ability to build all the turrets available to the Squire. Play on Hard if you wish to hasten the process after gaining a few levels. Make sure to repair your turrets
After grinding enough XP to hit around level 20 - 40, continue to play the Campaign on Medium, and if possible work on getting the Flawless Victory and Master Strategist trophies. Once you’ve completed the Campaign, the Bonus Level: Glitterhelm Caverns is unlocked and is a great place to grind Experience. If you feel you are up to it, then up the difficulty to Hard and continue grinding Glitterhelm Caverns until you reach Level 70.
Step 2: Develop your other heroes to Level 70 via Grinding XP at Glitterhelm and obtain the Group Hug Trophy
Now that you’re got your main Defense Hero, it’s time to develop your main Offense Hero – the Huntress. Focus on Hero Damage and Piercing Shot (70 points each), then split the rest between Hero Health, Hero Speed, and Hero Casting Rate by playing the Glitterhelm Caverns Area. Use the Tower Squire to build the defenses then switch out to the Huntress and begin the level. If you have a 2nd Controller (or more) you can bring in another hero and both will also gain XP though the 1st Controller Hero will gain more as it is tied to the towers built by the Squire. Be warned, the no. of monsters increases when there are more heroes and at this stage it is unlikely that the Squire’s towers are strong enough to withstand the no. of enemies when there are 3 or more heroes, especially on Hard mode.
For the Monk, focus on maxing out Tower Damage, Tower Health and spread the rest to Tower Area of Effect, Tower Attack Rate, Hero Speed and Hero Casting Rate. For the Apprentice, it is up to you as you will hardly be using him though I would recommend focusing on Tower stats as well.
Lastly, during the XP grinding keep all Godly Armor and the best weapons for each class while selling off the rest. Glitterhelm Caverns provides the best loot especially on Hard levels. Ideally you would seek to collect a set of Godly armor of the same type.
Once you have a Hero of each Class at Level 70 you will unlock Group Hug.
Step 3: Grind Mana / Max out your Equipments & Pets
The best way to grind mana is to complete the Alchemical Labs on Insane Difficulty as a Squire. Doing so will reward you with the Squire weapon Malificar’s Rapier. See Master Banker trophy for the best method to obtain mana. Keep repeating it as necessary and whenever you need to mana to upgrade your equipment.
With plenty of mana you should upgrade the equipment of your Tower Squire & DPS Huntress. For the Squire’s equipment, upgrade the Tower Damage as much as possible, and consider putting some in Tower Health. You want to aim for a total of at least +200 for Tower Damage and +100 for Tower Health. Armor with Tower Stats are rare so prioritize this for the Squire before others. You should also use a Pet that has tower stats that can be upgraded. A fully upgraded Malificar’s Rapier with 9000+ elemental damage will serve well as the Squire’s weapon.
For the Huntress’s armor, upgrade the Hero Damage only. The ideal pet for the Huntress is a Genie (obtained by reaching Wave 15 in Hall of Court on Survival/Pure Strategy) which gives you Mana for every monster you kill. This allows you to spam Piercing Shot every second and depending on your Hero DMG & Hero Piercing Shot, weapon DMG, and bonuses from your equipment, you deal a minimum of 20,000 damage per shot that pierces through a line of monsters. For the Genie, also focus on upgrading Hero Dmg.
As for the weapons if possible, try completing the Challenge Level: Assault on Insane to get a Blasticus weapon for the Huntress (rifle like weapon). You can also join a group online and hope they can finish the challenge so you can get the weapon as well (plus the trophy for getting this challenge). A decent Blasticus would have the following initial stats :
Base Damage: 50+ Shots per second: 7+ Ammo Capacity: 70+ Reload Speed: 6+ Upgrade Levels: 24+
If at first, you do not get a Blasticus that has the stats above, try completing the Challenge until you get one, or perhaps buy it off another player but be prepared to pay a hefty price. The Blasticus is the best single-target DPS weapon when fully upgraded (about 3 million mana required), and with an Ammo Clip of 70+ you can take out lots of enemies before you have to reload. This makes it much easier to take out the monsters as well as the Ogres and Bosses, on Hard & Insane difficulties.
If you are unable to complete the Assault challenge, in the mean time alternative weapons are the Lava Beetle Exterminator (Complete Glitterhelm Caverns on Medium/Hard), Soul Focuser (Complete Alchemical Labs on Insane) and the Crystal Tracker (Complete Challenge: Warping Core on Insane). These generally have a lower damage output when compared to the Blasticus, but they are good Crowd Control weapons with either piercing or area of effect damage.
Step 4: Complete Campaign on Insane
Now is the time to revisit the Campaign Levels. Play through the campaign again on Insane using your Squire to build towers and then switching out to Huntress before the timer ends. Repair towers during the combat where necessary and kill the monsters with your DPS huntress.
Optional: Try your best to go for the Perfectionist trophy by protecting your Crystal Cores from any damage. If you have another controller, one controller can play as the Tower-Squire to build towers only while other plays as the DPS-Huntress for clearing monsters. By doing this you can get both Mastermind and Brute Force trophies in one sweep. Refer to both trophies for details. Completing this optional step now will save alot of time as you have partially completed Step 6.
Step 5: Complete all Challenges on Insane
The first challenge that I recommend you complete is Assault, if you have not already. The reward for completing it on Insane is the Blasticus weapon as I mentioned above, which should be your Huntress’ main weapon from now on. Refer to the Challenges Section in the Trophy Guide for strategies on how to tackle this and other Challenges. If possible, get someone who has the experience on how to complete the level to help you out.
Step 6: Obtain all the Awards related trophies
Hopefully you already have a Blasticus for your Huntress at this stage; otherwise I recommend you get it first. These are the Award-related trophies that you need to focus on. If a trophy mentions "all missions", that includes the Bonus Level Glitterhlm Caverns
True Nobility - "Lord" award on at least Medium difficulty (50 Kills in 5 seconds). You should already have it after Step 4 as it comes naturally. Perfectionist - "Flawless Victory" award on every level on at least Medium difficulty (No damage to core throughout the level) Mastermind - "Master Strategist" award on every level on any difficulty (only use Towers throughout the level) Brute Force - "Gunslinger" award on every level on any difficulty (only use Weapons throughout the level) Team Effort - "Teamwork" award on every level on at least Medium difficulty (complete last wave with 4 players) Daredevil - "Skin of Teeth" award on 6 levels (complete a level with a crystal at less than 100 hitpoints remaining)
Step 7: Complete each Map on Pure Strategy up to Wave 10 on Medium difficulty
Here we will be going for Defense is the Best Offense trophy. You need to complete every level including Glitterhelm Caverns up to Wave 10. You do NOT need to start from Wave 1, you can actually specify to start from Wave 8 in the Map Selection Menu in the Tavern, and then complete Waves 8 and 9. You do NOT need to complete Wave 10.
When you’ve completed that, return to the Tavern and check your statistics. It should now display that your highest Pure Strategy record is Wave 10. Repeat this for each level and you will unlock the trophy upon returning to the Tavern after the last map.
Step 8: Complete Survival Mode Trophies
This is where the glitched trophy Thick Skin falls under. You can do this mode on any map you prefer, but we suggest doing this on either Deeper Wells, Magus Quarters or Alchemical Labs. We also recommend that you play this entirely offline (signed out from PSN) and only when you have at least 6-8 hrs+ to spare, as many people have reported that the game freezes on later waves when the amount of monsters are more than 5000.
What you need to do is reach Wave 20 on Medium, Wave 15 on Hard, and Wave 10 on Insane. These trophies are stackable which means if you reach Wave 15 on Hard, you will get the Survivalist trophy as well which is reaching Wave 15 on Medium. Even so, we recommend you do each one individually and not go for Wave 20 on Insane directly, because you’d go practically insane when the game freezes later and you realize you need to do it all over again.
The majority of the community believe that the game freezes because it can not keep up with your Kills Ticker on the bottom right of your screen (a Ticker appears whenever your Hero or Defenses kill a monster). To mitigate the freezing effect, we suggest letting the game go idle for 30-45 minutes in between each wave starting from Wave 15, and if possible leave your PS3 idle for about 1.5-2hrs in between each wave starting from Wave 18 to minimize the chances of your PS3 freezing.
Doing this will net you the Survivalist, Thick Skin, Tough Guy, and Iron Man trophies.
Step 9: Clean Up
The only thing left to do now is to clean up any other trophies you haven't already unlocked.
Throughout steps 1-7 above, if you see a Pet that you don't already have at the Tavern, quickly buy or lock it for purchase later. You will want to refer to the trophy Catch 'em All for details on how to unlock the rest of the pets.
You (or someone else) will need to deal the killing blow as a specific Hero class to the final boss on the Campaign Level: The Summit in order to view the ending for that Hero class. Do this for each of the 4 Hero Classes and you will unlock A Matter of Perspective
[PS3T Would Like to Thank yewjhin & terryfu for this Roadmap]
You upgraded an Equipment to its maximum potential!
You will need a piece of equipment (weapon or armor) that has at least 2 upgrade levels. When you’re in the Tavern, during the Build Phase in between waves of enemies, you can upgrade your equipment by accessing the Lockbox and locating the piece of equipment you wish to upgrade in either Hero Info (if equipped) or Item Box (if stored). Press to access the Item Info screen, and press to invest mana to upgrade the equipment. You can also do this at the Barkeep in the Tavern.
This is the maximum level possible in the Core Game. We recommend you focus on developing a Tower-Squire to this level first, who will be your main pillar of defense throughout the rest of the game. For leveling tips, please refer to Step 1 of the Roadmap and our Encyclopedia.
A Hero can wear up to 4 pieces of armor (Head, Chest, Gloves, Boots). You will pick up or earn pieces of armor of varying Quality (Torn, Worn…Powerful, Amazing… Epic, Legendary, Godly) and Type (Leather, Mail, Chain, Plate, Pristine).
A complete set of armor is a collection of each armor piece of similar type. Each armor’s stats will be boosted if you are wearing pieces of similar type. Pieces with similar Quality are not required to complete a set.
Armors dropped by monsters are typically of very low quality even on Insane difficulty. The best armors (“Godly Enchanted….”) are usually available from Treasure Chests on Insane difficulty, or bought from the Tavern after you have completed later levels on Insane. The harder the difficulty, the better the armor quality on sale or dropped from chests.
You will need to have, a fully upgraded weapon, a fully upgraded pet, and a fully upgraded suit of armor (doesn't have to be same type). Equipment with 1 Upgrade Level only does not count as maximum level, so your gear must have at least 2 Upgrade Levels each.
Completing Deeper Wells, Foundries and Forges, Magus Qurters and Alchemical Labs on Insane will unlock this trophy. You need to complete the 1st map before the 2nd map unlocks, and so forth.. unless you are joining someone else through Online Multiplayer. This trophy is stackable so if you complete Insane you will unlock the trophy for the lesser difficulties as well if you haven't done them.
This is the legend for all maps supplied in the guide. The first 5 are all names of Towers that can be built by the Squire and serve as the basis of all defenses. The last 2 - Strength Drain and Ensnare Auras are towers that can be built by the Monk which serve to improve your defenses, but are by no means a necessity unless otherwise noted.
The starting mana (from chests) and maximum defense units allowed are listed on each level. The costs for each tower are: Bouncing Blockade: 40 mana, 4 defense units Slice & Dice: 140 mana, 8 defense units Spike Blockade: 30 mana, 3 defense units Harpoon Turret: 80 mana, 6 defense units Bowling Turret: 100 mana, 7 defense units Ensnare Aura: 30 mana, 2 defense units Strength Drain Aura: 60 mana, 6 defense units
Deeper Wells
Max Defense Units: 60
Starting Mana (Chests): 160
No. of Waves: 5
1. Collect Mana from the chests, then start with building Bouncing Blockades and Bowling Turrets as illustrated in the map.
2. Complete your defense with Slice & Dice Blockade (or Bouncing Blockades if you don't have it yet) and Harpoon Turrets.
3. Upgrade your Bouncing Blockades and Slice & Dice as you progress.
Foundries and Forges
Max Defense Units: 80
Starting Mana (Chests): 200
No. of Waves: 6
1. Collect Mana from the chests, then start with Bouncing Blockades covering each of the passages leading to the Crystal. Build Harpoon Turrets to backup your Blockades and deal with any Archers
2. Replace your Bouncing Blockades with Slice & Dice Blockades. Upgrade them as you progress and remember to repair any damaged ones.
3. On the last wave, you will be introduced to a single Ogre. Ogres have very high hitpoints and can deal alot of damage, quickly destroying your defenses and/or killing you if you are unprepared and outnumbered. Make sure to check the map and beef up your defenses by upgrading and repairing them.
Magus Quarters
Max Defense Units: 90
Starting Mana (Chests): 200
No. of Waves: 6
Beware, your Hero will die if you fall into the lava in this level.
1. Build Bouncing Blockades on each of the 3 long staircases leading to the middle of the map. Build a Bowling Turret behind each of these towers, facing straight downwards.
2. After the 3rd wave, you are introduced to Wyerns - flying enemy units that go directly for your Crystals. These will come from the Southeast and Southwest of the map. Build the 2 Harpoon Turrets facing these 2 directions as depicted in the map.
3. Replace your Bouncing Blockades with Slice & Dice Blockades after you have your Harpoon Turrets set up. Upgrade them.
4. Build another Harpoon Turrets to the North of your Crystal for contingency.
Alchemical Labs
Max Defense Units: 85
Starting Mana (Chests): 200
No. of Waves: 6
There are many methods to beat this level, but the underlying strategy is always the same - control the choke points. This will also be your first encounter with a Boss.
1. Start with building Bouncing Blockades, including at the "SD" location on the map above.
2. Build the Bowling Turrets as shown
3. Build the Harpoon Turrets on the elevated platform that is next to the Bouncing Blockades in the east, and place the Slice & Dice Blockade at the corner of the platform. This way the SD will protect the Harpoon Turrets and do some damage as well.
4. Upgrade and repair all your towers. Build two Slice & Dice Blockades right next to where the "Red Demon" icon is.
5. The Boss will spawn during the last wave and land right smack in the middle, as shown by the Red Demon icon. Bosses can only damage towers and heroes, but not the crystals. You can temporarily stun the boss and deal some damage by hitting the 4 Electrical Rods in the middle of the map. Remain in his line of sight and confine him to the middle of the map, or he will fly off somewhere and start damaging your other Towers.
6. During the Boss fight, an infinite amount of monsters will continue spawning from each door. You must deplete the Boss' hitpoints in order to complete and end the wave.
7. Defeating the boss will reward you with a unique weapon. It's stats vary according to the difficulty you chose.
Complete the levels Servants Quarters, Castle Armory, Halls of Court and Throne Room to unlock this. This trophy is stackable so if you complete Insane you will unlock the trophy for the lesser difficulties as well if you haven't done them.
Servants Quarters
Max Defense Units: 85
Starting Mana: 350
No. of Waves: 6
1. Start with building Bouncing Blockades at each of the choke points shown in the map.
2. Fortify your defenses by adding Harpoon Turrets or Bowling Turrets to each of the locations.
3. Upgrade or replace the Bouncing Blockades with Slice & Dice Blockades when you have enough mana.
Castle Armory
Max Defense Units: 90
Starting Mana: 350
No. of Waves: 6
1. As usual, start with building the Bouncing Blockades and Slice & Dice Blockades. Add the Harpoon Turrets and Bowling Turrets when you have sufficient mana.
2. Beware of Ogres that appear towards the end of the level. Take them down immediately to minimize damage to your towers.
Hall of Court
Max Defense Units: 100
Starting Mana: 350
No. of Waves: 6
1. Build the Slice & Dice blockades in the middle section of map first. You can choose to use Bouncing Blockades for the western section.
2. Have at least 2 Harpoon Turrets covering each Crystal first before building the Bowling Turrets.
3. Wyerns will appear starting in wave 3 onwards from the far East and far West doors of the map. Make sure you have sufficient Harpoon Turrets. You may need a Huntress to take of them if you're going for the Flawless Victory award.
4. Ogres will spawn at the far West in the later stages of the level.
Throne Room
Max Defense Units: 100
Starting Mana: 420
No. of Waves: 6
1. Some players prefer to have 2-3 Bowling Turrets covering the East and West paths and that's fine if you have a very strong Hero to support your Towers. We recommend using the Slice & Dice Blockade because it will draw the Ogre's attention (aggro) and deals damage at a faster rate.
2. Wyerns will appear starting from Wave 3. You will probably need a Huntress to take care of them if going for the Flawless Victory award as they start at a high altitude and your Harpoon Turrets may not always get all of them.
3. Take down the Ogres immediately when you get the warning.
4. After the final wave, the boss appears on the West part of the map. Focus all your efforts on him and stay out of range of his blade. If he sends missiles after you, hide behind the pillars to avoid getting hit.
Area 3 consists of the levels Royal Gardens, The Ramparts, Endless Spires, and the final level, The Summit. Complete all of them to unlock this trophy, and the ones for lower difficulties if you haven't done it already.
Royal Gardens
Max Defense Units: 130
Starting Mana: 500
No. of Waves: 5
From here onwards, the going gets tough and you will need to stay on your toes if you want to obtain the Flawless Victory award. Always pay attention during the Build Phase to see if an Ogre will appear from a certain location for that wave.
1. Once again, start with Bouncing Blockades as laid out on the map. For the Slide & Dice Blockade, there are two options: Either build it as shown above, or further to the East at the top of the staircases. Building further East allows you to kill monsters faster and whilst gaining control of the chokepoint, but should an Ogre spawn there, they may directly damage your towers without moving a step.
2. Next, support your Bouncing Blockades with Bowling Turrets and Harpoon Turrets.
3. By the start Wave 3, you should have Harpoon Turrets placed around your Crystals as Wyerns will begin to appear from the Nouth, South, and East. Place your Harpoon Turrets facing these directions and always keep an eye on the map. Build Towers and/or Auras as you like with any remaining Defense Units you have.
The Ramparts
Max Defense Units: 110
Starting Mana: 500
No. of Waves: 5
This is an easy map as long as you keep your defenses tight and in good shape.
1. Start off immediately by building the Slice & Dice blockades. Make sure you have at least one Harpoon Turret protecting the southern Crystal, and you build the Harpoon Turret on the roof near the chest on the west side.
2. Continue to build more Harpoon Turrets to deal with the Wyerns.
3. As time passes, upgrade you Towers, and place more Harpoon Turrets around the South and East crystal for safety measures. Ensnare Auras will also serve to slow down the flying creeps.
Endless Spires
Max Defense Units: 110
Starting Mana: 500
No. of Waves: 5
A Huntress is absolutely necessary if you are aiming for Flawless Victory award, as it is very hard for Harpoon Turrets to get a grip with the Wyern's flight path in this map. You may consider building the Mage's Deadly Striker towers to deal with the Wyerns.
1. Start by building the Slice & Dice and Bouncing Blockades in the north, then the Slice & Dice and Bowling Turrets in the east and west sections. You don't have to build the Harpoon Turrets in the south until Wave 2 starts. Support your towers in the North by having Ensnare and Strength Drain Auras.
2. The Wyverns' flight paths are indicated by the arrows. Playing with two players is normally the safest way by having one lookout for Wyerns and the other look after your Towers and Ogres.
3. Ogres will only spawn in the Northwest and Southeast, so pay attention to the map when they appear.
4. Build more Harpoon Turrets/Deadly Striker Towers in the South if you're playing Solo (or without a Huntress), but don't forget to regularly check the condition of your towers in the north. The east and west sections shouldn't have any problems if you upgrade them in intervals.
The Summit
Max Defense Units: 150
Starting Mana: 700
No. of Waves: 5
This is it, the final level. Ogres will only appear from the South. Wyerns will appear from the lower East and West where the Crossbow/Ballista icons are.
There are 2 variations to the strategy for this level. The first one, Strategy A is more conservative and safety-minded, whereas the second one, Strategy B is riskier but requires little maintanenance.
A1. As usual, Bouncing Blockades first, followed by Slice & Dice Blockades. Place the Slide & Dice blockades at the TOP of the stairs of the platform where the two crystals are. This is a perfect position because it allows these towers to hit the Wyerns coming from the south here.
B1. The main difference here is that instead of Harpoon Turrets in the middle, we build a SD Blockade on the Far East and West elevated platforms. You will want to place them right in the middle of movement path of the Wyerns coming from the East and West. The actual positioning is abit tricky, and you might need to restart a few times to get it right, but when you do get it right then you won't have to worry about Wyerns anymore.
2. Continue building the Bowling Turrets as you gain mana from defeating monsters.
3. Build Ensnare and Strength Drain auras to further beef up your defenses on the staircases leading to the Slice & Dice blockades in the southern part of your defense.
4. When the boss appears, he will fly around the map to either the East or West sides. No more Wyerns will spawn from this point onwards, so you may sell any towers that were used for defending against Wyerns.
5. You must use the Ballistas to hit the Boss (Crossbow icons on the map), which will force him to land on either North, East, or West platforms between the Ballista Towers. This is your chance to get some good damage in. From time to time, the Boss will spit fireballs which can hurt you and your Towers a lot on Insane difficulty. Always keep an eye on the map to check his location, and the conditions of your Towers.
6. Defeating the Boss will reward you with a unique Pet for your class, either a Class Guardian (Easy-Hard) or Class Animus (Insane).
Completed all levels on Insane! Congratulations Brave Dungeon Defender!
Completed all levels on Insane! Congratulations Brave Dungeon Defender!
Once you have beaten every Campaign Level, the Bonus Level Glitterhelm Caverns is unlocked. You must beat this bonus level, in addition to all Campaign Levels, on Insane difficulty to unlock this trophy.
Glitterhelm Caverns
Max Defense Units: 165
Starting Mana: 1000
No. of Waves: 7
1. Start by building Bouncing Blockades up in the North, East, and Middle Sections. Follow up with Slice & Dice Blockades in the South and Middle sections. Monsters spawning from the spawn point 2nd from left will normally head towards the Crystal in Middle instead of the Crystal in the West, therefore the Bouncing Blockade protecting the westernmost Crystal isn't required until later as a safety measure.
2. Build the Harpoon Turrets in the North, East, and South. For the western part, build the 3 Harpoon Turrets that are behind the Crystal first, and add the other 2 at a later time. Also build the 2 Bowling Turrets in the middle covering the Slice & Dice Blockade.
3. Further beef up your defenses by adding the Ensnare Auras, Strength Drain Auras, and more Harpoon Turrets.
4. Harpoon Turrets should do most of work eliminating Wyverns. You should pay close attention to where Ogres appear and proceed to eliminate them immediately.
There are a total of 13 Challenges excluding the Hero PvP Arena. You will need to beat all of them on Insane difficulty to unlock this. Some challenges have separate individual trophies for beating the challenge on Medium or Insane, and these are listed below.
1. No Towers Allowed
Trophies: Where's the Blueprints (Medium), Weapon Master (Insane)
Required Class: DPS-Huntress
Recommended No. of Heroes : 2-4
This is a simple challenge but you absolutely need at least 2 DPS-Huntresses for this challenge, and if possible a 3rd one as backup. You are not allowed to build any towers at all so you need to rely on your weapons. One Huntress should position herself facing at the staircase North of the Crystal Core and the other Huntress at the staircase East of the Crystal Core.
Weapons such as Soul Focuser or Lava Beetle Exterminator will help immensely as the monsters will be coming in a straight line allowing you to take out a lot of them with a couple of shots. Don’t forget to spam Piercing Shot as well.
This challenge can be done Solo, but it’s better if done with 3 players. Your objective is to protect the Ogre sitting in the middle of the map. You have no control over it, and it will automatically advance and engage any monsters that are within proximity. On Insane the Ogre can go down very quickly if swarmed by a horde of enemies.
Have a Squire build Bouncing Blockades at A during the initial set-up, and back them up with Harpoon Turrets and Bowling Ball turrets. Switch to a DPS-Huntress if you have one before the Combat Phase starts and gun the monsters down. You can use a Tower Monk to drop a Slow aura to help delay the monsters. Do this quickly and always keep an eye on the map to see where the Ogre is. If he starts moving towards a direction, quickly go there and eliminate any enemies.
The objective for this challenge is to protect the Crystal Core, but there’s a catch. The Core can teleport to 7 different locations on the map marked by a "C". This occurs about every 2-3 minutes and the order is random. It may even "teleport" back end up back in its previous position.
1. Start by building Bouncing Blockades nearest to the "C" locations on the East, West, and South sides of the map. Build a Spike Blockade facing towards the door to prevent archers from attacking the Crystal directly. You might not have enough mana for one side during the initial Build Phase, so you will need to cover that side during the 1st wave.
2. Start building Spike Blockades and Harpoon Turrets on the Southeast and Southwest Crystal locations
3. Build Bouncing Blockades on the longer staircases on the East and West sides. Add a Harpoon Turret to the East/West/South crystal locations.
5. Occasionally you will find archers firing at your Bouncing Blockades at range, use your hero to get rid of them and minimize damage to your Towers. Remember to repair them.
4. Raining Goblins
Trophies: Ella Ella (Medium), Dancing in the Rain (Insane)
Required Class: Tower-Squire
Optional Class: DPS-Huntress
Recommended No. of Heroes : 2-4
This is a pretty easy map, so long as you set up your defenses around the core properly. All you need to do is build Bouncing Blockades and Slice & Dice Blockades to surround the Core in the middle, then switch to a Huntress (recommended). Goblins will fall down from above, but they never land too close to the Crystal so your blockades should be able to repel them safely. Get rid of any goblins and orcs that may sneak in or damage your defenses and you’ll do fine.
1. Start by building Bouncing Blockades at the Crystal.
2. Build Slice & Dice Blockades next. Use Heroes to cover any gaps if you do not have enough mana.
3. One player should cover the crystal and face North, while the other faces South.
This challenge is best done with at least 2-3 players, it is practically impossible to do Solo. Your objective is to kill all the Enemy Mages that spawn, but yet again there is a catch. At any time, only 2 of the enemy Mages on the map are vulnerable/can be killed. The rest of them are wrapped in a purple aura and cannot be killed until you eliminate the vulnerable ones. Remember to keep your defenses healthy, upgrade whenever you can and reinforce them with Strength Drain Auras when possible.
6. Ogre Crush
Trophies: You No Take Mushroom, Ogre Block Party
Required Class: Tower-Squire
Optional Class: Tower-Monk
Recommended No. of Heroes : 1
This challenge is best done Solo, even on Insane difficulty. Equip your Squire with an Elemental Dmg Weapon (eg the Malificar’s Rapier with at least 8,000 elementl dmg). The map used is Castle Armory, and on the 1st wave, an Ogre will come through the Northernmost entrance. Take this opportunity to build blockades and turrets in the other four spawn points where ogres will appear on later waves (you’ll have enough time to collect all chests and build everything even on insane).
On the 2nd wave, 1 Ogre will spawn in both the Northeast and Northwest. Again before the wave starts switch to a Tower-Monk and build strength drain & ensnare auras at all four points where the blockades are built. You’ll have enough time to do so and switch back to your Squire or DPS-huntress.
Once that is done just concentrate on taking out the northernmost ogre, then proceed around the map in a systematic matter for each subsequent wave. Repair/upgrade blockades where necessary as well.
This challenge is best done with 4 Huntresses. 2 players will stand on either side of the Western Core near the staircases, and the other 2 players will stand on either side of the Eastern Core near the other staircases. Your objective is to protect these Cores while surviving for the rest of game.
You cannot build any towers, and numerous Kamikaze Goblins will spawn from the entrances. You will die (and respawn in 3 seconds) if any of these Goblins explode near you so be alert and practice good crowd control by utilizing your Piercing Shots. Try to reload whenever you have a break, and never fully empty your clip as it takes longer to reload an empty clip than a half-full clip, which could turn out to be very costly. Piercing weapons will also help as you can shoot at the goblins prior to them appearing below the steps on the western pathways.
8. Chicken
Trophies: In a Fowl Mood
Required Class: Tower-Squire, DPS-Huntress
Recommended No. of Heroes : 3-4
The map for this challenge is the Throne Room. 3-4 Players are recommended for this challenge, preferably with high level DPS-Huntresses. Every minute, one of the players in game will be designated as Chicken. The player will retain all Hero stats/abilities and still able to kill monsters, but he cannot jump and he dies in ONE hit. You have a limited amount of lives (9), and each time a player dies (even while not being the Chicken) the counter reduces. If the Cores are destroyed, or all players are dead while you have 0 lives left, you will fail the challenge.
Build up your defenses with a Tower-Squire like you would do in the normal Campaign, and have 1 player guard each side of the map. Be particularly aware of the East side where the Throne Seats are, because a lot of Dark Elf warriors spawn here and they can jump over your defenses, going after the Hero directly. Dropping an Ensnare Aura here will slow them down and is highliy recommended. The ‘Chicken’ should be hiding on the side opposite the Throne Seats. When another player is about to become the ‘Chicken’ he should head for that side, and the previous ‘Chicken’ shall take his place and continue eliminating enemies.
It is recommended to have at least 3-4 players especially on Insane. Build up the defenses as normal, and have one Huntress stick to the core always. The core will move around the map in a clockwise fashion as shown by the blue lines on the map, starting by moving West-wards and the players must eliminate all enemies around it. Pay particular attention to the defenses as there are a lot of mages who would send skeletons to weaken them hence always keep an eye on the map to ensure that the defenses stay up. When the core reaches the southern part of the map, watch out when the ogre spawns and ensure that there are enough heroes to take it down before reverting to checking the defenses.
In this challenge, the monsters consist of Wyerns, Large Wyerns, and Super Wyerns. Every wave, 1 Ogre will spawn in the North and South immediately after the wave starts, so it is still necessary to have some form of ground defense. Surround the southern Crystal Cores with Slice & Dice blockades on the south side, supported by a couple of Harpoon Turrets. On the roof of the building where the a chest appears, drop another Slice & Dice blockade and 2 Harpoon Turrets around it. Lastly place some Harpoon Turrets facing northwards on the roof as well as the pathway below.
Once the Combat Phase starts first take out the Ogres and then focus your attention on the southern Crystal Core as well as the rooftop. As long as your heroes are maxed out in their levels, stats & equipment, this should be a piece of cake.
This challenge plays out like a third person shooter which requires you to destroy 3 cores which will be protected by traps & towers. On Medium difficulty you have 5:20 minutes but on Insane you only have 2:25 minutes to destroy all 3 cores. The recommended hero to tackle this challenge is the DPS-Huntress with maxed out Attack Stats & Base Dmg weapons.
Ironically, the reward for completing this challenge on Insane is the Blasticus, the weapon recommended to tackle this challenge. Hence if you can trade for this weapon from other players or check out the shop (it will be called in other names but the picture will be that of a assault rifle), do so. You would want max out the weapon's Base Damage before tackling this challenge on Insane. Alternatively use a Crystal Tracker that you can get for finishing Warping Core (an easier challenge). Max its base damage (ideally >1,500).
In this challenge, players need to pickup a specific amount of Gold-colored Mana every wave. The enemy spawns are infinite until you pickup the required amount.
Generally the strategy described for the Campaign version of this level will be sufficient, see the strategy for "The Summit" campaign level under the To The Lofty Summit trophy. There are NO FLYING ENEMIES in this challenge, so you can reallocate your Defense Units as you wish. We present here an alternative strategy ideal for 4 players.
1. Have a Tower-Squire build up all the necessary defenses, and Monks put up Strength Drain auras for the towers in the southern section.
2. For waves 1-3, each player should take up position next to each of the spawn points. Spam your Piercing Shots if you have the Genie pet, and keep an eye out for Gold Mana Tokens. The faster you do this, the faster you can end the level and reduce possibility of failure.
3. Starting wave 4, Ogres will spawn in the southern section. The 2 Heroes here should cooperate and take it down immediately. Retreat to towers and make good use of the Strength Drain auras as necessary.
In Monster Fest you have a fixed amount of time to kill all monsters during each Combat Phase and you have a pre-fixed amount of lives. There is no core to protect, instead all monsters will target the Heroes directly. It is recommended that this be done by 2 Heroes only. Playing with more than 2 Heroes will increase the amount of monster exponentially, but the time given will not.
1. One player sets up the tower defenses in the central bridge area while the other player covers him/her as there is only 15 seconds to set up your initial defenses. Use the time during the first few waves to set up as many Harpoon Turrets as you can (for its Piercing effect), and try to put up a Strength Drain aura to reduce the damage dealt by the monsters.
2. Always observe the on-screen timer and kill enemies in a safe, but quick manner. You will need to ensure these monsters are killed fast enough so more can spawn and be killed within the time limit.
3. Keep your towers healthy, especially your Bouncing Blockades and Slice & Dice blockades. Lay down Strength Drain auras and always keep an eye out for Ogres.
4. Take note of Wyerns as well. Generally the Harpoon Turrets should handle them nicely, but it pays to be attentive.
To do this, you need to reach Wave 20 in survival mode (any map) on at least Medium difficulty. Recommended levels to do this are The Deeper Wells, Magus Quarters or Alchemical Laboratory. Set up your defenses as per normal and kill the monsters as they appear. You can start at higher waves (Wave 8 being the highest) so you don’t have to sit through the earlier waves.
We recommend that you play this entirely offline (signed out from PSN) and only when you have at least 6-8 hrs+ to spare, as many people have reported that the game freezes on later waves when the amount of monsters exceed 5000.
A majority of the community believe that the game freezes because it can not keep up with your Kills Ticker on the bottom right of your screen (a Ticker appears whenever your Hero or Defenses kill a monster).
Similar to the survival trophies on Medium, you need to reach Wave 10 on Insane. The trophies are stackable so if you reach Wave 15 on Insane difficulty, you will get the Tough Guy and Survivalist trophies, and if you manage to get to Wave 20, you will get the Thick Skin trophy as well though it is recommended you reach Wave 20 on Medium difficulty instead due to the glitch as described above.
Again, the areas recommended are similar to the ones described above in the Thick Skin trophy. Only difference is monsters are tougher and stronger.
Pure Strategy is a mode where your hero cannot attack the monsters and can only build towers. Best done solo (as the resource units do not increase with the no. of heroes but the no. of monsters increases). You just need to reach Wave 10 (don’t have to complete it). You also cannot repair the towers that are damaged during the combat phase. However you can upgrade them, which in turn will fully heal the towers. Hence in between combat phases you may want to sell the defenses and build them again to reset the upgrades (each tower can be upgraded up to 5 times).
The Lord Award is given for killing 50 monsters within 5 seconds. You don't really need to go after this as it is quite likely you'll unlock it while playing on one of the campaign maps on Insane Difficulty, or whilst going after the Survival mode trophies. Get your Level 70 DPS-Huntress out and spam Piercing Shot and you'll get it easily.
You can see if you have achieved the award at the end of the round by checking the Hero tab at the Crystal and pressing . You can also check it at the Crystal in the Tavern.
See To The Limit for info on armor types. You only need a set of Godly quality armor. A weapon is NOT required. You do NOT need to upgrade the Godly armors to maximum level. Your hero needs to be at Level 70 in order to equip Godly armors.
You can also borrow a full set of Godly armor from someone else, equip it, and unlock this.
Godly Weapons are usually only available in Treasure Chests on Hard or Insane difficulty. You will often find this while playing on Glitterhelm Caverns on Hard/Insane.
Purchasing a Godly Weapon from the Tavern may also work. Picking up a Godly Weapon someone dropped will also work.
The Flawless Victory Award is given for completing a level without the Crystal Core receiving any damage for the entire duration of the level. This must be done for every Campaign Level, including Glitterhelm Caverns.
This is best attempted when you already have a Level 70 Tower-Squire and a DPS-Huntress, on Medium difficulty. Use the Squire to shore up your defenses during the Build Phase, and the Huntress to take care of mobs during the Combat Phase.
You can see if you have achieved the award at the end of the round by checking the Hero tab at the Crystal and pressing . You can also check it at the Crystal in the Tavern.
The Skin of Your Teeth Award is given for completing a level with the Crystal Core at less than 100 hitpoints left. Obviously you will need to purposely let some mobs reach your Crystal Core and damage it enough to that level, then finish them off. Each Crystal Core typically has 1500 hitpoints. Only one Core in the entire map needs to be at less than 100 hitpoints for the award to be given at the end of the level.
You can see if you have achieved the award at the end of the round by checking the Hero tab at the Crystal and pressing . You can also check it at the Crystal in the Tavern.
The Master Strategist award is given for using only Tower Defenses throughout the entire duration of the level. Any attack by Weapons or Pets will negate the trophy. This must be done for every Campaign Level, including Glitterhelm Caverns.
You may switch to another Hero at anytime, as long as that Hero does not perform any attacks or has a Pet that can attack.
You can see if you have achieved the award at the end of the round by checking the Hero tab at the Crystal and pressing . You can also check it at the Crystal in the Tavern.
The Master Strategist award is given for using only Weapons throughout the entire duration of the level. Any attack by Tower Defenses will negate the trophy. This must be done for every Campaign Level, including Glitterhelm Caverns.
You may switch to another Hero at anytime possible, as long as that Hero only uses Weapons/Pets to deal damage and does not build any damage-dealing Towers.
You can see if you have achieved the award at the end of the round by checking the Hero tab at the Crystal and pressing . You can also check it at the Crystal in the Tavern.
This must be done for every Campaign Level, including Glitterhelm Caverns. You can do this with either 4 controllers, with 3 other Online Partners or a combination of both. The other 3 players do not have to be present during the entire duration of the level, they only need to be in the game during the Build Phase of the final wave and play till the end from there.
Beating the final Campaign Level "The Summit" on any difficulty will unlock a general ending, and then a specific ending for the Hero class that dealt the killing blow to the final boss. Therefore, you will need to either deal the killing blow with every Hero class at least once, or be in a game where another player who controls a Hero class whose ending you've never seen deals the killing blow.
You will unlock this after completing Step 3 of the Roadmap. The trophy will unlock after your 4th and final hero type reaches Level 70 and you finish assigning the level up points.
Every hero can equip one Pet. These pets are either bought from the Tavern, or rewarded to you for completing certain Campaign Levels and Challenges. Much like Equipment, each Pet comes with stats that can boost that of your Heroes. Some pets can also attack monsters, while others have unique abilities.
Monsters will drop Mana when they are killed, and Bosses drop much more Mana when they are defeated. Any items that are dropped on the floor during the previous wave will be converted into Mana and stored in your Mana Bank automatically when you start the next Combat Phase or return to the Tavern.
Mana is required for building and repairing Defenses, using Hero Abilities, and for upgrading weapons and armor. Your Mana Bank can only hold a maximum limit of 15,000,000 Mana.
Once you have a Level 70 Squire, here's an easy way to earn Mana very quickly.
1. Play Alchemical Laboratory Campaign Level on Insane
2. Defeat the Boss, who will award you Malificar's Rapier and a random piece of Armor.
3. Check the Malificar's Rapier to see if it has the following: at least 160 points in Poision Elemental Damage and at least 21 Upgrade Levels
4. You will need at least 2.5 million mana as a "capital investment". Upgrade the Malificar's Rapier's Poison Elemental Damage up to the maximum you can go. Typically it goes up around 15-20% every level and it capped at a max of 455 points per upgrade.
5. The value of the weapon will raise exponentially according to the Elemental Damage stat. Its value will vary between 4million to 10million depending on its initial stats. Sell it to the Bank for a profit.
6. Repeat the above steps to gain as much mana as you need.
You will be prompted to go through the Tutorial upon starting the game. Complete the Tutorial, which also serves as the 1st Campaign Level, and you will unlock this trophy.
