Road Map

Welcome to Dragon Age: Origins. If you're expecting a quick and easy platinum, then look elsewhere. This game won't challenge you in difficulty. However, it will challenge your patience as this game takes a long time to finish one playthrough (~40 hours). If you've played an RPG from Bioware before, you know what to expect. Think Jade Empire or Knights of the Old Republic as opposed to Mass Effect.

Playthrough 1: Origins

When you're setting up your character, your first real decision is your choice of gender and of class (Warrior, Mage, or Rogue). Warrior and Rogue are much easier than the Mage. Choose whichever of the three you want. I'd play with the Warrior or Rogue the first time so you can get used to the combat and the game as a whole. Next, you'll choose your background. If you select Warrior or Rogue, you'll have five Origins open to you (all except Mage). Play through the game collecting all of the party members (see Recruiter) and finding as many locations (see Traveler) as possible.

There are eight main quests in the game. In all of them, there are decisions to make that will affect the outcome of the game. On your first playthrough, make your selections based on what you think is best. You can save right before you make these choices, do them, quit, and reload to go back and get the other trophy, but where's the fun in that? You're going to have to essentially play through three times anyway.

The one spot where I'll recommend saving, quitting, and reloading is with the endings. There are four possible endings (see Perfectionist). Make the correct decisions and talk to certain people at the right time, and you'll get everything ok. It is possible to make an extra save, reload, make a different choice, and redo "The Final Battle" to get a different ending. If you're impatient, then you can go that route.

As far as the romances, you may be able to get up to four in one playthrough. It's difficult and you'll need to have a lot go right in terms of how you deal with the four romantic options though. The easiest way would be to do two each in different playthroughs. With some effort, you can set up a three-some or even a four-some with Isabella at The Pearl in Denerim. Two of the characters require you to be a specific sex to complete the romance plot (Morrigan and Alistair). The other two (Leliana and Zevran) you can be either sex. See Hopelessly Romantic for more details.

Traveler is a frustrating trophy. You'll need to visit every location on the map (and submaps) to get this. You'll also need to make a couple of decisions along the way. If you miss one, you'll have to start the game over, particularly if it's one you can't go back for. The one you need to pay the most attention to is the Fade in Redcliffe. All of you have to do to get there is save Connor. For the rest, follow the list given with Traveler and you'll be ok.

Take your character up to level 20 and get as many Darkspawn kills as you can. It's possible to get all 1000 in the first playthrough, but if not, don't stress as the Darkspawn kills stack across all of your playthroughs. To get your level up higher, do every quest that is available to you. Get kills. If you're a Rogue, disable traps and pick locks.

The majority of your trophies should come in this playthrough (I ended up with 40/55).

Playthrough 2: The Mirror Image

Whatever you did in your first playthrough, then do the opposite. If you chose to be a male the first time, then be a female. If you chose to be a Warrior, then be a Mage. If you sided with one faction, then side with the other. Finish the other two romances as well. If you didn't find all locations the first time, then you'll want to this time. Be sure to follow the list with Traveler. Most of those come in the main story, but a few others you have to go out of your way to find them.

Playthrough 3+: Polishing

Start out by finishing off the other Origin stories if you haven't already. They take about an hour each. Once you're finished, select the third character class you haven't played yet and reach level 20. Also do any of the random trophies that you have left (romances, speech, crafting, Heavy Hitter). This playthrough will be your mop up game. Anything that's left, get them here (including if you've missed an ending).

DLC: Spirits and Stone

Note: You do NOT need to complete these trophies for the platinum. If you want 100% in the game, you will need to complete them though.

You'll have the opportunity to finish the DLC after you complete the game (depending on which ending you choose). There's no need to go out of your way to complete either "The Stone Prisoner" or "Warden's Keep" during the main quests. However, the companion you get from "The Stone Prisoner" is well worth going out of your way to get. Shale proved invaluable to me throughout the game. Shale was in party for essentially the entire game after the quest was over. "The Stone Prisoner" is meant to be played during your main quest as the other "Stone Prisoner" quest is unlocked during one of the main ones (see Liberator or Pragmatist).

Last of Your LineBronze Trophy

The Origin story is the first part of the game after creating your character. Choose "Human" as your race and "Human Noble" for you Background. Play through the story and when you agree to join the Grey Wardens, this will unlock. The origin stories take about 1-2 hours a piece.

CorruptedBronze Trophy

HarrowedBronze Trophy

The Origin story is the first part of the game after creating your character. Choose "Elf" or "Human" as your race and "Magi" for you Background. Play through the story and when you agree to join the Grey Wardens, this will unlock. The origin stories take about 1-2 hours a piece.

CastelessBronze Trophy

KinslayerBronze Trophy
Completed the Dwarf Noble origin story

The Origin story is the first part of the game after creating your character. Choose "Dwarf" as your race and "Dwarf Noble" for you Background. Play through the story and when you agree to join the Grey Wardens, this will unlock. The origin stories take about 1-2 hours a piece.

Last of the WardensBronze Trophy
Completed Ostagar

No matter which Origin story you choose, this is where you will head immediately after. Depending on which Origin story you chose, this may also be your first encounter with the Darkspawn. Simply complete the quests that are given to you.

Standard-BearerBronze Trophy
Used the Grey Warden treaties to recruit all possible allies

To get this trophy, you'll have to complete "Broken Circle", "Nature of the Beast", "Paragon of her Kind", "The Arl of Redcliffe", and "The Urn of Sacred Ashes". You'll have to get on the good side of the humans in Redcliffe, the Dalish Elves, the Dwarves, and the Mages/Templars. Once you complete those quests, return to Castle Redcliffe and speak to the Arl. Tell the Arl to begin the Landsmeet and watch the cutscene.

MercenaryBronze Trophy
Complete 15 job-board quests

Each town (Lothering, Redcliffe, and Demerin) has job boards posted in front of their Chantries. You can also find jobs for the Mage's Collective from their Liaisons in Denerim and at Lake Calenhad. Redcliffe and Denerim also have the The Blackstone Irregulars that you can do jobs for. Finally, in Denerim at the tavern in the Market, you can jobs for less reputible people. Complete 15 of these quests for this trophy. Most are pretty simple and don't take nearly as long as the main story quests.

RecruiterBronze Trophy
Across all playthroughs, recruited all party members

The party members that you have to recruit are: Alistair (Ostagar), Morrigan (Kocari Wilds), Leliana (Lothering), Sten (Lothering), "Dog" (Human Noble origin and in Ostagar), Zevran (encounter after Redcliffe), Oghren (Orzammar), Wynne (Mage's Circle Tower), and Loghain (after "The Landsmeet"). Be aware, if you accept Loghain into your party, then Alistair will leave it forever.

Shale is not be required for this. If you have the "Stone's Prisoner" DLC, recruit him anyway because he's extremely valuable.

Hopelessly RomanticBronze Trophy
Across all playthroughs, experienced all possible romances

Complete the romance stories with Morrigan, Leliana, Zevran, and Alistair. For Morrigan, your character needs to be male. For Alistair, your character needs to be female. For Leliana and Zevran, your character can be either male or female. When you reach a certain level (track your progress with the meter below their Character Record), you will slowly approach the end of the romance. You need to get the meter as high as possible (Leliana for example is close to maxed out, Zevran doesn't take nearly as much). You'll do a quest for them, then share a kiss, and then...

For an easy way to gain points with them, go into your inventory, and scroll over to the "Other" list. Anything that says "Gift" in purple can be given to any potential romantic interest. Just use to scroll over to the character you're interested in, highlight which item you're going to give her, and press to give it to him. The best items vary from character to character. See First Knight, Witch Gone Wild, Easy Lover, and Wine, Woman, and Song for more details.

You'll probably need two playthroughs for this, but it may be possible to do this in one. If you have a high enough affection with each of the four, have been romantic with at least one of them, none of them are jealous, and have a high enough coercion talent and cunning ability, then you may be able to pull off a foursome with Isabella in The Pearl in Denerim.

PerfectionistBronze Trophy
Across all playthroughs, discovered all possible endings

This is all going to depend on the decisions you make and who you side with throughout your playthroughs. You should be able to get this in two playthroughs. You should be able to save in Fort Drakon, play out the quest, quit, and reload doing the opposite and this should unlock. For now, that is unconfirmed.

  • Morrigan performs the ritual that saves you.
  • You sacrifice yourself to save Ferelden. You'll have to speak to Loghain or Alistair in Fort Drakon telling them you are going to sacrifice yourself.
  • Loghain sacrifices himself to save Ferelden. Speak to Loghain in Fort Drakon and tell it's best he sacrifices himself.
  • Alistair sacrifices himself to save Ferelden. Speak to Alistair in Fort Drakon and tell him to sacrifice himself.

EducatedBronze Trophy
Used a tome to improve the main character's attributes, talents, spells, or skills

At random spots in the game, you'll find these tomes that can improve your character. They will be in the "Usable Items" section of your inventory. Press then to get to your inventory. Push to get your Usable Items list. The tomes will be at the bottom beneath all of your potions. Highlight and press to use it, then to leave the menu.

LiberatorBronze Trophy
Destroyed the Anvil of the Void

Whichever potential leader you chose to support will send you into the Deep Roads beneath Orzammar to find Branka and ask her to support your choice for king. After fighting legions of Darkspawn and other creatures, you'll find Branka. She'll get you to complete a series of trapped rooms to get to the Anvil. When you complete the rooms, you'll find Cairidin. He'll ask you to destroy the Anvil. Whether you choose to destroy it or not, you will have the means to put into place the new king.

By completing this and taking this path, you'll open up "A Golem's Memories" if you have "The Stone Prisoner" DLC.

PragmatistBronze Trophy
Preserved the Anvil of the Void

Note: If you have Shale in your party when you do this, you'll be forced to fight it along with the other golems.

See Liberator for more details about this quest.

When you complete the rooms, you'll find Cairidin. He'll ask you to destroy the Anvil. Refuse him and side with Branka. Whether you choose to destroy it or not, you will have the means to put into place the new king.

Heavy HitterBronze Trophy
Main character inflicted 250 damage with a single hit

As a Warrior and have a high strength and willpower. Get a two-handed weapon with runes on it to increase the damage you inflict. Have your party mates cast buffing spells on you. Use the Berserker skill “Final Blow”. Make sure you stamina bar is full as well.

As a Rogue, max out your Archery talents, especially the Pinning Shot line. Get to Arrow of Slaying as soon as you can. Use that talent in a fight and you'll easily do over 500 damage.

As a Mage, use Walking Virulent Bomb or Mana Clash on another Mage. Combining Spell Wisp, Spell Might, a high magic attribute, and two items that increases damage works as well (thanks to AstralBlades for that tip).

This needs to be done against one, single enemy. There have been quite a few times where I've damaged multiple opponents with my Mage or Rogue with damage well over 250. Remember, it's a single hit, not a single attack. You also need to do this with your main character. No switching to Shale. It won't count.

BloodiedBronze Trophy
Completed an origin story without the main character ever falling in battle

This can be done on any of the Origin stories. Don't allow yourself to run out of health during any of the origin stories. Keep it up with health potions. Setting the game on Casual difficulty makes this extremely easy.

TravelerBronze Trophy
Set foot in every area in the game

This has to be done in one playthrough. You'll need to hit every location on the main map, and the sub maps for the Deep Roads and Denerim. You'll need to do every main quest and quite a few side quests to visit all of them.

This trophy was recently confirmed to need the following places by Fleapants on the Bioware forums. Make sure to create an extra save before heading to the Royal Palace during "The Landsmeet". That's the point of no return. If for some reason Traveler doesn't unlock for you, then here is the complete list of locations in the game.

Redcliffe:
  • Blacksmith's home
  • Dwyn's home
  • Kaitleyn's home
  • Kaitleyn's home, second floor (ask the boy what he was doing there)
  • Tavern
  • General store
Denerim:
  • The Pearl
  • Gnarled Noble Tavern
  • Wonders of Thedas
  • Warden's Cache (ask Riordan after finding his documents when freeing Anora)
  • Wade's Emporium
  • Dirty Back Alley
  • Rundown Back Streets
  • Dark Alley (the last three are from "Back Alley Justice" sidequest you get from the Denerim chantry)
  • Orphanage in the Alienage
Lothering:
  • Dane's Refuge (this is the tavern where you meet Leliana)
Haven (both of these are easily missed):
  • Haven house near the entrance
  • Haven General Store (at the top of the hill)
Orzammar:
  • Proving Grounds (in the Commons)
  • Shaperate (in the Diamond Quarter)
  • Janar Armorers
  • Figor's Imports (Unlocks after choosing the new king)
Final Battle:
  • Fort Drakon rooftop
All of the above are in addition to the locations in the main story.
PilgrimBronze Trophy
Completed a Chanter's Board quest

After you leave Ostagar, you'll head for Lothering. In the town, you'll find a Chanter's Board with a quest available. Simply approach the board, accept the quest, and complete it. The quest should b something relatively simple, like "Kill x bandits."

Grey WardenBronze Trophy
Killed 100 darkspawn

This will come naturally as you progress through the story. The Darkspawn are your primary enemies. As long as someone in your party kills a Darkspawn, it counts towards this trophy. The Darkspawn kills count across all of your playthroughs. There's no need to go out of your way to farm this trophy.

TinkererBronze Trophy
Crafted an item

Open your radial menu with the button and select "Potions" (9 o'clock) or "Poisons and Traps" (8 o'clock) and push . If you selected "Potions", select "Herbalism" and if you selected "Poisons and Traps", select "Poison-Making". If you have the necessary materials, you'll be able to craft an item here. You'll find the materials scattered throughout Fereldan. Search bodies and plants for the materials. You'll find some for sale from merchants as well.

Below are the potions, poisons, and traps you can make with the first level skill. As you move to Improved, Expert, and Master, more recipes become available. These are the easiest though. Be aware that you'll have to buy flasks from merchants.

Lesser Lyrium Potion: 1 Lyrium Dust, 1 Flask
Mabari Crunch: 1 Elfroot, 1 Deep Mushroom

Poisons
Venom: 1 Toxin Extract, 1 Flask

Small Claw Trap: 1 Metal Shard, 1 Trap Trigger
Small Shrapnel Trap: 1 Metal Shard, 1 Trap Trigger

PersuasiveBronze Trophy
Succeeded at five difficult Persuasion attempts

When you see a conversation option with (Persuade) before it, choose that. Select five of those end up being successful and you'll have this trophy. The four Coercion skills (Coercion, Improved Coercion, Expert Coercion, and Master Coercion) are very important for this, as is the number of skill points you have assigned to Cunning.

Silver TonguedBronze Trophy
Succeeded at 25 difficult Persuasion attempts

See Persuasive for more details. This is the same idea, just 25 instead of five.

BullyBronze Trophy
Succeeded at five difficult Intimidate attempts

When you see a conversation option with (Intmidate) before it, choose that. Intimidate options are a little rarer than Persuade, so do it whenever you see one. Select five of those that end up being successful and you'll have this trophy. The four Coercion skills (Coercion, Improved Coercion, Expert Coercion, and Master Coercion) are very important for this, as is the number of skill points you have assigned to Strength.

Succeeded at 10 difficult Intimidate attempts

See Bully for more details. It's the same idea, just 10 instead of five.

Then you'll investigate the rioting that has gone on in the elven part of town. When you arrive at the tower, you'll find it in disarray and overrun by blood mages and demons. Fight your way to the top level of the Tower where you'll meet the Sloth Demon. On the first level of the Tower, you'll meet Wynne. You want her in your party. Here is where it gets interesting. You'll be sent into the Fade. There are a series of "stages" that you must complete. There are six with a demon that you must kill. Four of these also have dreaming Templars and Mages that will give you a Shapeshifting ability. After destroying these demons, you have to rescue the other three members of your party, then fight the Sloth Demon. Once you escape the Fade, then you have to face the blood mage that has overtaken the Tower. You'll meet an imprisoned Templar on the way up to the blood mage. He'll ask you to kill all of the Mages. Refuse him and elect to spare the mages.

During the fight, the blood mage will attempt to turn the other captured mages into sloth demons. If you don't use the Litany of Andraste to protect them, you could be unwittingly forced into Annulment Invoker if you're not careful. The Litany protects the mages and prevents the blood mage from corrupting them. SlayerBronze Trophy

See Poacher for more details about this quest.

When you reach the end of the Werewolves' Lair, you'll be taken before the werewolves' leaders. Persuade them during the conversation to attack the Dalish Elves camp. You'll need to have the skill Expert Coercion (14 Cunning) to pull this off. Anything less, and they won't believe you. Once you convince them, you'll be taken the Elves camp. Wipe them out.

PoacherBronze Trophy

Find the Grand Oak and it'll ask (yes, ask) you to find it's acorn that was taken by a mad hermit mage. When you the hermit, you'll have to play his game. You can't attack him and take it. You have to play along. When you catch him, he'll offer you the acorn in a trade. Return it to the Grand Oak, and you'll be provided with a way to reach Witherfang. Make your way through the ruins to the werewolves.

When you reach the end of the ruins, you will be asked to return with Zathrian to negotiate. Side with Zathrian when asked and wipe out the werewolves.

He'll offer you the chance of helping the Cult and still being able to heal the Arl. Accept his offer and continue on to find the ashes. After desecrating the ashes. you'll be forced into a fight with the guardian and a couple of tough shades.

Whatever you do, DO NOT hit the gong. You won't be able to win the fight that comes until later in the game.

CeremonialistBronze Trophy

Towards the end of your search for the Urn to heal the Arl, you'll come across the Cult of Andraste. After fighting hordes of them, you'll meet one of them who wants to talk. He'll offer you the chance of helping the Cult and still being able to heal the Arl. Reject his offer and continue on to find the ashes.

The total will vary depending on who you side with. As long as more than half survive by the time you reach Fort Drakon, this will unlock.

In War, VictoryBronze Trophy
Defeated the ogre that killed King Cailan ('Return to Ostagar' downloadable content)

After installing, make your way to the new gold location on your world map, Bann Loren's lands. There, you'll meet another survivor of Ostagar and he'll tell you about the key he left to King Cailan's chest. Head back to Ostagar and fight through the Darkspawn to gather the pieces of Cailan's armor, the contents of his chest, and Duncan's weapons. You'll have to fight through the lower level of the Tower Ishal again, but after going through a tunnel, you'll emerge onto the battlefield. There the Ogre awaits. He's no tougher than any other ogre you'll face, so treat it no differently. After defeating what Darkspawn are there and the Ogre, this will unlock.

As for Cailan's chest, I'll describe the location for you until I can find a suitable map. On the western side of the Ostagar bridge (where you start this DLC set) is where the chest and the key are. The key is just to the north of the bridge entrance in a pile of rubble. The chest is to the south of the bridge entrance in between two spiked, wooden walls.

DragonslayerSilver Trophy
Defeated the dragon guarding the Urn of Sacred Ashes

Here you go. This is why you don't hit the gong when you get to the Urn. This dragon is damn hard. Get everyone to use fire resistant salves before hitting the gong. Have one or two warriors with you. Adjust their tactics to be defensive, but still attacking. If you have two, set one to Ranged. They're going to take the brunt of the battle. Have Wynne with you as a healer. Adjust your healers tactics so that they're set to Healer. Pay attention to your Warrior's health and switch to them when you need to (or ).

If you find yourself as the last one, then play keep away. The dragon is powerful as it is, is stupid. It'll keep going back and forth to the same spots. Keep running between the same couple of spots when the dragon takes off. It'll take a bit of time to get, but once the dragon is beaten, it's oh so sweet. Enjoy the loot it drops too.

The Ultimate SacrificeGold Trophy
The ultimate sacrifice was made in defense of Ferelden

Note: If you go this route, Morrigan will leave your party.

Note 2: Even if you aren't the one to make the sacrifice (see Perfectionist), then this will unlock.

After "The Landsmeet" ends, travel to Redcliffe. You will find out what the fate of the Grey Wardens is. Morrigan will offer you the chance of going through a dark ritual the night before the battle. Refuse her. Then complete "The Final Battle". There's nothing special to "The Final Battle" other than surviving waves upon waves of Darkspawn.

Once you make your way to the top of Fort Drakon, the fun begins. This isn't quite the same as your other encounters with dragons. The Archdemon is much, much tougher. Plus, you'll have to deal with a few waves of Darkspawn that run out of the Fort. Call in support troops (see Defender for moe details) to help out. There are also several ballistas around the roof. Get behind one, push to rotate it so it's aimed at the Archdemon and fire away. You can basically stand behind the ballista, and pushing when it's ready to fire over and over, only moving away from it when there are Darkspawn near.

A Dark PromiseGold Trophy
Defeated the Archdemon and, through a dark ritual with Morrigan, spared your own life

After "The Landsmeet" ends, travel to Redcliffe. You will find out what the fate of the Grey Wardens is. Morrigan will offer you the chance of going through a dark ritual the night before the battle.
