About the Game:
You play Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT specialist who's been handpicked to oversee the defensive needs of one of America's most experimental biotechnology firms. Your job is to safeguard company secrets, but when a black ops team breaks in and kills the very scientists you were hired to protect, everything you thought you knew about your job changes.
Badly wounded during the attack, you have no choice but to become mechanically augmented and you soon find yourself chasing down leads all over the world, never knowing who you can trust. At a time when scientific advancements are turning athletes, soldiers and spies into super enhanced beings, someone is working very hard to ensure mankind's evolution follows a particular path.
You need to discover where that path lies. Because when all is said and done, the decisions you take, and the choices you make, will be the only things that can change it.
Long Term Trophies:
The following is a list of Miscellaneous & Combat-related trophies that you should focus on immediately from the onset of the game until you unlock it. For a certain few trophies, you will need to dedicate some effort and time towards repeating the required actions until you unlock these trophies, which will probably be some point after your 2nd visit to Detroit.
First Takedown
Opportunist
First Hack
Hax0r1!
Transhumanist
Consciousness is Over-rated
Up the Ante!
Gun Nut
Ghost
Balls
Step 1: Complete the Game on "Give me Deus Ex" difficulty
Authors' Note: We shall be advocating the 1-Playthrough method. Should you choose to play otherwise, we still recommend that you play and focus on Foxiest of the Hounds on your 1st playthrough, so that you have a second chance on the next playthrough in case you don't get it the first time.
"Give me Deus Ex" is the hardest difficulty, available immediately from the beginning. You must not change the difficulty at any point in order to obtain Legend . Enemies can take you down in a matter of seconds if you're spotted, leaving you with the only option: Stealth.
Playing Stealth is actually more rewarding in terms of XP and Credits, and there are multiple paths to most objectives. You will want to ensure that you do not raise a single alarm (Foxiest of the Hounds ) and do not under any circumstances kill anyone (Pacifist ). If you ever find yourself stuck, veteran GameFAQs writer Absolute Steve's Walkthrough comes highly recommended. Also checkout our Strategy Section for detailed info on gameplay tips and detailed info on alarms and kills and Rotblitzkrieg's Video Walkthrough for these trophies.

Dialogue & Social Battles, Decisions and Save Files:
- Save your game regularly. You should save before starting each story mission and 2-3 running saves for progressing through the mission. You can have up to maximum 20 Save Files.
- The correct answers for successfully winning Social Battles WILL VARY for everyone depending on your actions & responses throughout the game, even for casual non-trophy related situations. Possible answers are listed for every Social Battle in the respective trophies.
- While progressing through the game, you will be asked to make certain decisions that will influence the outcome of the sidequests and small bits of the story. There are trophies for making these decisions. Save before making these decisions so that you can reload once you have the trophy and choose your other desired outcome.
- Hengsha (2nd Visit), you are asked to visit the LIMB Clinic to get yourself "fixed" with a new Biochip. This action will significantly affect gameplay by messing with your HUD and making the game more difficult. You can choose not to install the Biochip when you visit the clinic, save yourself a deal of pain.
- Save your game after defeating the Final Boss, where you are presented with 4 choices if you have been thorough and saved 2 important individuals in the final level. Each choice leads to a different ending. Viewing all endings is required for Deus Ex Machina . You can reload the game after viewing one ending then choose another. See the trophy guide for more details.
Foxiest of the Hounds & Pacifist:
- Always play stealthily. While not 100% necessary, make it a habit to avoid being seen at all times. If enemies/cameras don't see you, they won't have any reason to raise an alarm for Foxiest of the Hounds, apart from discovering bodies of their comrades.
- The Tranquilizer Rifle is reported to be glitched and causes deaths/"Skull" icons, despite being a non-lethal weapon. To be safe, try to minimize using it and reload if you get a "Skull" icon instead of "Zzz" icons on enemies that were knocked out, which might negate Pacifist.
- There is a potential glitch during the course of undertaking the sidequest "Cloak & Dagger" that may affect Pacifist, see the spoiler in Cloak & Dagger for more info.
Doctorate (Collectibles)
- Some collectible XP books are located in one-time only locations, for example the first mission Sarif Manufacturing. Be sure to refer to the guide for locations.
- Certain areas also require a high level of Hacking:Capture augmentation, so be sure to raise it to Level 5 as soon as you can, preferably before you leave Detroit as there are some in Detroit that are behind high level Doors & Safes. However, you still get to return to Detroit ONE more time in a later chapter.
- The Icarus Landing Augmentation is required latest BEFORE entering Lower Tai Yong Medical, or you will miss out on a XP Book for Doctorate.
Step 2: Clean Up and Missable Trophies.
This will be required if you happen to miss any trophies or did not obtain Pacifist and/or Foxiest of the Hounds. Unfortunately there is no New Game+, so you will have to play the entire game from scratch again.

Gameplay Tips & Hints
Augmentations
By far, the most important Augmentation is Hacking:Stealth and Hacking:Capture. You need these 2 to open up doors and storage rooms, gain access to alternative routes (which grant XP), shut down Security Cameras/Turrets/Robots, and most importantly it's required for Doctorate . You can find a list of Augmentations here: Augmentations (DX3) - Deus Ex Wiki, and a list of PRAXIS kits that you can find through exploration here: Praxis kit - Deus Ex Wiki
The following is a recommended Character Build List in order of Individual Upgrades. This build is designed to complement with story and sidequests as you unlock them, maximizing the abilities' "value for XP" as you can make 110% use of them immediately.
Augmentation Category - Upgrade - "Story/Sidequest" Timeline
Detroit
Cranium - Hacking:Stealth (Lv.1-3)
Cranium - Hacking:Capture (Lv.2-3) - "Investigate the Terrorist/Motherly Ties"
Arms - Move/Throw Heavy Objects - "Stop the Transmission/Cloak & Daggers"
Back - Quicksilver Reflex Booster (Multiple Takedowns) - "Cloak & Daggers/FEMA Facility"
Cranium - Hacking:Capture (Lv.4-5)
Arms - Punch through Walls - Access to free Praxis Kits in Sewers and alternate routes
Skin - Glass Shield Cloaking System (Lv.1) - "FEMA Facility"
Hengsha
Legs - Jump Enhancement System - Access more hidden areas with items/upgrades
Back - Icarus Landing System - Required for XP Book in Tai Yong Medical, best get it early.
Torso - Recharge Rate Upgrade (Lv.1)
Cranium - Social Enhancer - "Rotten Business"
Torso - Recharge Rate Upgrade (Lv.2-3) - Faster recharge, faster actions
Skin - Glass Shield Cloaking System (Lv.2-3) - For longer sneaking duration
Montreal & Later Chapters
Torso - Typhoon (Level 1&2) - "For boss battle with The Mantis"
Torso - Energy Level Upgrade (Lv.1-3)
Cranium - Wayfinder Radar System (Lv.2)
Stealth Enhancer - Cones of Vision
Torso - Implanted Rebreather
Sneaking
- Crouching greatly reduces noise generated by footsteps. It is a much better method than purchasing the Run Silently upgrade
- Alarm Panels can be hacked for XP
- Cloaking will let you slip past Cameras, Turrets, Robots, and even Laser Grids
- Nearby enemies will be alerted (no alarms) if they hear you punch through walls
- Punching through a wall with an enemy on the immediately other side will kill him. Observe your radar or use Eyes: Wall-Penetrating Imager (Upgrade) to check for enemies first before punching through walls
Frequently Asked Questions
General
Q: How hard is "Give me Deus Ex" difficulty?
A: Enemies can take you down in matter of seconds if you're spotted. Hence discretion is strongly advised.
Stealth
Q: Do I miss out on anything by playing Stealthily?
A: Absolutely NOT. In fact you make much more XP and Credits by playing Stealthily than you would otherwise, plus it's more fun. Hacking everything in sight is the best way to gain alot of cumulative XP and Credits.
Pacifist (Credits Maldron & Solid_Fantasy)
Q: Do the Guards in the Prologue count?
A: Yes, you must NOT kill anyone in this game, except during Boss Fights.
Q: What Counts as a Kill and affects Pacifist?
A: Almost every action can directly or indirectly result in a kill. Pay attention to your surroundings for environmental hazards as well.
The following counts as a kill:
- Killing enemies in the Prologue/Tutorial during Sarif HQ Intruders Invasion
- Killing via Lethal Takedowns
- Killing via any Lethal weapon (Shotgun/Combat Rifle/Pistol etc..)
- Killing via Environmental Explosions (Barrels)
- Incapacitated/Stunned enemies that subsequently fall into a Hazard (Fall from heights, Electrified floor)
- Glitched Tranquilizer Rifle Shots, especially Headshots
- Robots that explode and kill nearby enemies (unconfirmed, contradicting reports)
- Turrets/Robots you hacked that kill enemies
- Hengsha (1st Visit) - Choosing to kill Diamond Chan in "Rotten Business" sidequest
- Hengsha (2nd Visit) - During aircraft crash, if you choose to save Malik and use Lethal means.
- Panchaea - Killing the residents that have gone mad
The following does NOT count as a kill for you:
- You destroying turrets & robots
- Defeating Bosses
- Detroit (2nd Visit) - Choosing to inject Brent Radford with Lethal dosage in "Acquaintances Forgotten" sidequest
- Singapore - If saved Malik, at the end she comes in to rescue you and bombs a few guards
Foxiest of the Hounds (Credits Maldron & Solid_Fantasy)
Q: What counts as an Alarm? How do I know I've not activated one?
A: When on a quest/sidequest, when you clear certain checkpoints you might see a XP bonus "Smooth Operator", which means you have not raised any alarms. This is an indication that you are doing things right, but this XP bonus does not appear in every mission as some areas do not have alarms to begin with.
A Video Walkthrough is available by rotblitzkrieg
You should still try to avoid the following events at all times that may lead to an Alarm
- Enemies activating an Alarm Panel
- Enemies discovering the body of another enemy then going for the Alarm Panel
- Security cameras discovering the body of an enemy
- You tripping over Laser Grids
- Shooting a Security Camera
- Security cameras going from Suspicious to Hostile (Including Panchaea)
- Failed Hacks (Timer reaches 0:00/Access Point is traced)
Normal vs Activated Alarm Panel || Normal vs Alarmed Security Camera
The following does NOT count as an Alarm:
-
cripted events (Enemies are permanently in "Alarmed" State, but if they spot you and should any of the above 3 occurs then an Alarm is sounded)
- Hengsha (1st Visit) - Tai Yong Medical, Zhao's Penthouse
- Hengsha (1st Visit) - Tai Yong Medical, Hangar
- Montreal - After meeting Eliza Cassan the 1st time
- Montreal - Calling the Funicular elevator
- Hengsha (2nd Visit) - Aircraft crash landing zone
- Panchaea - Insane enemies who spot you
- Robots and Turrets in Suspicious/Hostile state
Normal Turret vs Hostile Turret (Hostile does not affect the trophy)
The following is a list of Missions in which "Smooth Operator" and "Ghost" is obtainable based on Absolute Steve's Walkthrough. Once again, it is not 100% necessary to obtain "Smooth Operator", but if you do then it is almost guaranteed that you will unlock the trophy:
Detroit
- Derelict Row - Investigating the Suicide Terrorist (only applicable if you choose not to convince Wayne Haas for safe passage)
- FEMA Facility - Following the Clues in Highland Park
Hengsha
- Tai Yong Medical (Lower and Upper) - Searching for Proof

Montreal

Walkthrough:
Step 1: Complete the Game on any difficulty
This guide shall be advocating the 1 Playthrough Method. While you choose your difficulty setting, I recommend that you choose "Give me Deus Ex" difficulty and that you should always focus on the Factory Zero on your 1st playthrough. Difficulty has no effect on the trophies, but if you obtained the Foxiest of the Hounds from the original main storyline. Then you'll be even more prepared and experienced for obtaining the Factory Zero trophy. This will also further prepare you on your next playthrough in case you didn't unlock the trophy the first time.
As you may already know, "Give me Deus Ex" is the hardest difficulty, available from the beginning. In this difficulty enemies can take you down in a matter of seconds if you're spotted, leaving you with the only option: Stealth.
Playing stealth is actually more rewarding in terms of XP and Credits, and there are multiple paths to most objectives, but all that changes for Factory Zero. You will want to ensure that you do not use any Praxis kits, weapons, or explosives. This means you cannot upgrade Jensen's augmentations, never fire a shot from a non-lethal or lethal weapon, and to never use any explosives or any other type of grenades. This also means that you cannot set off any proximity mines or any new defensive proximity security mines (the mines that rotate with the red laser, they have a build in Typhoon system). If you ever find yourself stuck check out prenatual's Video Walkthrough for Factory Zero. Not only his video guide a Factory Zero playthrough, but he also demonstrates how to obtain every trophy in one playthrough.
Story/Sidequest Trophy Unlock Flowchart:
Hei Zhen Zhu
- Good Samaritan
- Never Forget
- Out of the Frying Pan
Rifleman Bank Station
- The Learn'd Scholar
- All of the Above - (Alternate Save File)
- Back Stage Pass
- Apex Predator - (Alternate Save File)
- That Old Adage - (Alternate Save File)
- Factory Zero
- Never Stop Looking
Save Files:
- Save your game regularly. You should save as your progressing through the mission. You can have up to maximum 20 Save Files.
- Save your game after defeating the Final Boss, where you'll meet Garvin Quinn who will either commend or question Jensen's actions (based on whether you saved or sacrificed Dr. Kavanagh), before placing him back in a cyrosleep pod. You'll want to reload your ending game save to buy the Social Enhancer to use it against him. See the trophy guide for more details.
Factory Zero:
- Never pick up and use any weapons, grenades, or Praxis kits. Play through the DLC without upgrading in un-upgraded state. This also means you can't trigger any environment explosives such as the mines on the walls or the new rotating typhoon towers. Doing any of these things will invalidate the trophy.
- Always play stealthily. While it's not 100% necessary, make it a habit to avoid being seen at all times. If enemies/cameras don't see you, they won't have any reason to raise an alarm. An alarm raised won't affect your trophies unlocking but will make your playthrough much more difficult than it already was. For example, raising an alarm will activate the new defensive typhoon systems around the Rifleman Bank Station. So stay stealthy and avoid raising any alarms at all cost.
Factory Zero: Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I pick up weapons and grenades although I'll never use them and still unlock the trophy?
A: Yes you can, as long as you never used them during your playthrough you're fine. Even upgrading the weapons you pick up are okay.
Q: Can you use lethal takedowns along with non-lethal takedowns and still unlock the trophy?
A: Yes, confirmed by GEAR OF FATE who used lethal takedowns during his playthrough.
Q: Can I upgrade Jensen for the trophy?
A: No, doing so will negate the trophy.
Q: Is it possible to Factory Zero with nothing in your inventory?
A: Yes, you can make it through the whole DLC with nothing in your inventory.
Q: Can I still use cyberpack bars and/or hypostims?
A: Yes, these are replenishing items and are okay to still use if you wish to.
Q: Can throwing an object such as a cardboard box or a fire extinguisher negate the trophy?
A: Nope, you can throw objects around the environment and still be fine.
Q: Is saving either the Doctor or the prisoners (or both) necessary for the trophy?
A: No, you can make an alternate save there if you wish and then choose to kill one of them and still get the trophy.
Q: Can setting off the mines on the walls or the new security typhoons negate the trophy?
A: Yes they can, so if you trigger one off reload your last save.
Q: Can the grenades thrown by enemies count against the trophy?
A: No, grenades that enemies throw don't count against you, even if it kills enemies (confirmed by Cz357).
You should still try to avoid the following things at all times that may lead invalidating the trophy
- Refrain from firing any non-lethal or lethal weapon (even accidentally)
- Refrain from throwing or using any type of grenades (this includes frag/concussion/EMP/gas grenades/security typhoons)
- Upgrading Jensen's augmentations (which is using Praxis kits)
Step 2: Clean Up and Missable Trophies
This will be required if you happen to miss any trophies or did not obtain Factory Zero. Unfortunately there is no New Game+, so you will have to play the entire DLC from scratch again.
