I. Introduction:

Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland is the second and final sequel of the JRPG Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland. The main character of the final Arland RPG is Merurulince Rede Arls, a 15-year old girl who is not just the princess of the small kingdom of Arls, but also the apprentice of the legendary alchemist and adventurer Totooria Helmold, the main character of the first sequel. The story continues approximately one year after the end of Atelier Totori and tells us of Meruru's attempts to develop the kingdom of Arls. Together with the friends she has and new ones she gets to know, she tries everything to expand the kingdom so she will hopefully be able to achieve an even greater goal. During her adventure, she gains the experience she needs to become an adult and to show Arland that she is worth being the apprentice of Totori.

II. Walkthrough

Step 1 - Playthrough #1:

During your first run you don't need to focus on too many things. You don't need to trigger the Friendship Events, you don't need to defeat the stronger bosses and you also don't need to trigger most of the endings. You can get the trophies you would normally get when just aiming for your normal goal and building enough facilities and doing some quests so you can get to the final boss, defeat it and also raise the Population to 100000. Here you should already begin to reload your save data, of course.

Meanwhile, you can save money with Quests from Filly and some other items to wholesale Regentium weapons with traits like "Rainbow Power", "Skill Charge", "Attack Charge", "Skill +xx%" and Quality close to "100" or exactly. To get such a weapon, use the last gathering spot in the Modis Ruins where high quality "Rainbow Fragments" are or tell your Homs to search for "Rare!" items in the Modis Ruins. Then they will find and bring them to you. You will probably have a problem to synthesize a Regentium with costs that high. This is most likely because of the "Fuel" item. You should use a "Small Sun" for it. Once you are done, register the Regentium with Pamela and wait until they are restocked to buy more of them. Equip your characters with them and you will be happy.

You can also think about not using the two "Azure Wings" which can be gotten easily so you can use them for accessory instead. The first one requires Totori to be FLV 70, so she will return to Arland for one day. When she returns, she gives you some items, including the Azure Wing. The other one can be bought from Astrid once you have built the 3rd Marketplace. Totori's Azure Wing has "Stats +6" ability and Astrid's item has "Stats +10" ability. Once you make more than just one item you will find those two abilities in every item you have made with it. You may probably think how to get a Warp Gate without them, but this is your first try and so a Warp Gate is not that important. You can get other Azure Wings as rare items with the Homs at Cape Ichigo or in the Endless Corridor, but of course those don't have these abilities with a chance of 100% and to find an item you want in the Endless Corridor normally takes some time because you can find every Ingredient material there and the gathering spots contain these items randomly, of course. In case you still want to get other Azure Wings or the Warp Gate and you have found some, then those without the "Stat +xx" abilities I have mentioned should be used for your Warp Gate. The Warp Gate however required 4 Azure Wings, and to half the number of ingredients you need to build the facility of Astrid which is explained to lower the amount of ingredients you need for Synthesis.

Development Items can also be synthesised during this run. At least some Traveler's Shoes and a Secret Bag are items which should be used. If you equip them in your main menu, you will also have them when you start your Clear Save.

If you want it and because it could be expensive because of the Development Points during your second run, then you can also trigger the Hot Spring ending during this run. Even without a Warp Gate it should be okay to do that, as long as you know how to manage your time. But maybe you want to make the item. It is up to you not to make the equipment which increased your stats or to search for other Azure Wings so you don't need to worry about or to decide whether or not you want to trigger the Hot Spring end during this run. You can also get it during your second run by reloading a save which is a bit older. And if you are someone who can manage his time wisely and does many, many Quests, then maybe you even get the DP you need for everything during your second run without that reload.

Step 2 - Playthrough #2:

During your second playthrough, you should do almost everything you have done during the first playthrough to get new DP and everything you need. This time you are normally faster with finishing everything, you should remember many missions you need to make so you can gather and make the items before and you should raise the Friendship Level of all your characters - most of it should be done with Friend Quests. Use Wholesaling and everything should be fine. Then make some good weapons, some good armor in case you have not made some which is good enough during your first playthrough, train a bit and make more saves so you can also fight the bosses you have not fought before and start getting the Endings one after another by reloading.

III. Tips

(Friend) Quests:

There are two different types of Quests. The first ones are the Quests which can be gotten via Mail at the Outskirts and will help you to raise your Development Points. This will also help you to reach your goal of getting a higher Kingdom Rank and unlocking new Facilities on your list so you can build even more and take advantage of the side effects the new built Facilities have.

The other Quests are the Quests you can get from Filly. They are Front Quests and Friend Quests. Friend Quests can be done once Gio gives you your first task. Front Quests will raise your Popularity and so you will also get extra money as well as trigger some scenes with Filly once you have done enough of them (10, 20 and 30, for example), and Friend Quests, which will not raise your Popularity, but you will also get Cole for every mission and you can raise the Friendship Level of your characters. This is essential for getting to watch all the character events you need to watch for the trophies. Friendship Level 60 can only be increased up to 100 with Friend Quests and depending on how well the items are made they will raise your character's Friendship Level faster (an Ultimate "120" quality Mystery Ankh for example will raise your character's FLV by 7 points).
To make things easier, be sure to register popular items with Pamela so you can buy them everytime your friends ask for them.

Building Facilities:

To build Facilities, you need to get Development Points and level up your Kingdom Rank. Depending on your Rank and some events you can build certain Facilities. Those can raise your Popularity, help you with getting more and better items and more Experience Points, break the limit of your Adventurer Level and many more.

Some Facilities are necessary to get all the trophies. Those are "Memorial Park", "Legendary Statue", Astrid's three Facilities, Rorona's "Pie Shop" and "Spa Land".

Triggering Character Events & Getting the Endings:

When making Alchemy, fighting some monsters and following the storyline, you will not get to see most of the story. In fact the true part and ending of the story will not be revealed to you then. However, not every Character Event or Scene in general must be watched to trigger the Character Trophy Event and often the order of the scenes of one character you have seen does not matter. There are some factors which will help you to experience the whole story, such as the Friendship Level of your characters - which will normally trigger an event on every 5th level - visiting an area unknown to you, or reaching a certain Adventurer and/or Alchemy Level and other things.

To watch the whole story, show your interest and explore Arls, get stronger and advance in being an Adventurer as well as an Alchemist, spend times with your friends and help them with Quests to raise their FLV and develop Arls in general with all your skills! Endings will trigger once you have fulfilled a certain amount of tasks/sidequest related to them. To be sure that you have done what you need to get to watch the ending you can always check your MeMemos. Almost all MeMemos are related to a certain ending and when Meruru wrote "I feel like I have uncovered a whole new future for myself!" on the last page of her MeMemo, you know that you can watch the ending which is related to the Sidequests and the MeMemo. Often you can even watch more scenes after Meruru wrote the MeMemo and watch every last thing of this storypart and then normally a new MeMemo will be written by Meruru, but of course it will not change the fact that you can watch the ending. The final note and hint about her new future will also be on the last page of her new MeMemo then.

NOTE: Also don't use DLC characters when you want to trigger events in which they are included, like Rufus for Lias' events, for example. During that time you should not have Rufus in your team, for example. This goes for every event a character who can also be downloaded is necessary for.

Wholesaling:

The option of Wholesaling is one of the most helpful and convenient ways to get items and so one of the best in general. Once Pamela, the friendly ghost girl, arrives in town and explains to you how Wholesaling works you should use it. Later Pamela will tell you that she needs some help. You can give her Homemade and Mushroom Pies then by doing two Quests for her to help her Chims. Once you have done that, you can register the maximum amount of items with her.

Wholesaling is good for many things like buying items you have made and which are often requested by your friends, buying items which are expensive because of their ingredients and therefore not easy to make because of the items, or to get a great amount of useful and well-made items in general like good Elixirs or Regentiums. Often such items can be expensive but normally they are worth the money, and if you do enough Quests and sell items you don't need or sell items which were made by the Homs and which are worth a fortune, you should have no problems.

You can decrease the price of the items you buy with abilties but often the items still are so expensive, especially when they are very good ones and so you should not waste the ability space for it but save some money instead so you can afford the items you need. Use Wholesaling wisely and you will love it! It will be a great help to lighten the load!

NOTE: Chim appears in the Modis Ruins after clearing Pamela's missions.

Homunculus – The Alchemic Being:

Soon after Rorona comes to Arls she will introduce the Homs to you, two Homunculi which were made by Astrid to help with Alchemy. They can be a great help because they can search and gather items at every place you have visited before, as well as make items you have made before and so they can help you saving a great amount of time. When it comes to gathering Ingredient materials while you do many Quests at the same time you should always use the assistance they offer. Wholesaling will not help you when it comes to getting Ingredient materials, but if you combine the options you have with Rorona's Homunculi, your own Alchemy and Wholesaling, then you can make multiple great items. And as flexible as the Homs are with the options of focusing on the item's quality, the traits, the trait level or getting rare items, you have many ways to use their help efficiently and advance in becoming both an Adventurer and an Alchemist.

The Homunculi also have an own storypart. You will probably think of it as one of the cutest of the whole storyline, no matter if it is about fulfilling their tasks, helping Rufus or saying funny things at the Hot Spring.

Training Spot:

At a certain moment of the story, once you are done with the first Modis Ruins scenario you can use a very good and fast training method. You will probably think of using the Endless Corridor, Mount Velus or the Forest of Ent, but especially in the Endless Corridor where many monsters are the difficulty and amount of experience points is pretty random because it is not on the same level in every battle – and even though every monster stands for a certain battle there you can only fight monsters you have already met. This means that while there is a monster in the Endless Corridor which stands for an Elder Griffon and a Griffonian, you will not fight both in this battle as long as you have not met both of them before, and so you will probably only have "half a battle".

However there is one place in Arls where you can fight the same monsters over and over again without wasting too much time, without too much effort and which give you many experience points. This place is the Garden Ruins. As soon as the mentioned time has come there is a boss, the Can Gaeann. It always appears with two other enemies. In the beginning, the battle can be a bit harder and you should never defeat the two minions before you have defeated the boss because it gets stronger this way and so attacks which target more enemies are not that good - especially when you are not strong enough to keep up with Can Gaeann's two strengthened forms because then they can be pretty hard, so just don't defeat the other two crapbags before you have defeated him - but when you know how to find and build Facilities which help you to increase your Experience Points like the Adventurer's Schools and the Lodging, you can get ~2700 per battle. This guy can also be found in the Endless Corridor, but this place is more convenient if you ask me.

Assistance Moves, Special & Finishing Moves:

The Assist Bar of you friends can be used for many purposes. They can protect Meruru from any harm, they can help her with an extra attack and when the bar of both of your friends are at least charged to "2", they can unleash a combo move which is pretty strong and not only that, as long as you still have an item, Meruru can chain it with a Finisher. If she does, the effect normally is pretty strong. If you use Meteors for example, Meruru can deal great damage with them if she uses them as an Assist Finisher. And since Meteor has the "Falling Stars" effect, the Meteors which come during the rounds will have the power of the Assist Finishing Meteor. This also works with other items too, of course, such as the Peacemaker, but this item is harder to make and together with the Meteor it is one of the only items which can be used so smart and with such power.

Always think about how to use the Assist bars of your friends the best way in the current situation and you will probably ease your battles this way.
Once a character has reached Level 35 he/she learns his/her Special Move. To use his or her Special Move, the character needs to use other moves or needs to get hurt. This way he charges his Special Move Bar and once it is full, he is able to use an attack without any extra effects, but which is by far stronger than every other attack and which is very stylish as well.
And – if the last move in your battle is a Special Move, it will be used differently, it will become a Finishing Move, which is even more stylish in my opinion and you can enjoy watching it while hearing the character's respective Finishing Move Theme.

End the story after the extension with a population of 100000+. Several scenes with Filly, Keina and Rufus will trigger to show you that you can get the Ending.

  • Become a hero and the land's strongest princess.

This is the hardest trophy to obtain. It requires you to do the same things you need to do for the other Ending trophy "Now, Go Bravely", but to win the battle against Masked G. Once you have won, Meruru will lecture Masked G. But back in your workshop Sterk will lecture you in case you are Adventurer level 50. You will unlock the MeMemo "Victory!" and Meruru will mention her new future in it. You can watch another event with Masked G once you visit Hart Outpost again. It will give you an update on your MeMemo.

    Hit Points: 1000
    Recommended Level: 80+
Recommended Abilities: Stat up abilities, Stat down abilities, High "Speed" stat, Critical enhance abilities, Multiple attack moves, Rainbow Power for additional damage, Skill Charge, Attack Charge, Time Blessed, Lower WT attacks, Assist Combo Finishers

  • Master alchemy and together become feared as the Four Witches.

This Ending has the same triggering conditions as the first Potion of Youth Ending "Finally, as Planned" except the requirement of you making the Ice Cascade Bomb and reaching Alchemy Level 50. Totori will tell you about you being equal to her, after you have synthed a final time once you have made the Ice Cascade Bomb and reached Alchemy Level 50, you will trigger a final event with Astrid and once the story is over you'll get to see another possible result of Astrid's work.

The last ~5 Alchemy Levels need many Alchemy EXP and so they will also need much time. To get many Alchemy EXP easily, not only build the Academies, but make items like Regentiums and Elixirs. An easy way is to tell the Homs to search for Rainbow Fragments while you make Regentiums. Elixirs give more Alchemy EXP, but they need more items (making Elixirs is recommended, however). Every Regentium needs only one day to be made. But as boring as it is, make them one after another or you will not get as many Alchemy EXP as you would by doing them one after another.

  • Gain popularity with everyone.

For this ending you need to be on a "Clear Save" run, so at least on your 2nd run, so you can watch all important Friendship Events with the characters. This means the following characters at least need the following FLV:

80: Totori, Rorona, Mimi, Gino, Esty, Lias, Sterk, Keina
    50: Gio, Rufus, Hanna

Once you are done with seeing the required events you will see two final events in the workshop involving Mimi and Gino and a MeMemo which tells you that you are friends with everyone.

  • Become an alchemist of Arland and open Atelier Meruru.

This is the True Ending of the story.

For this Ending you need to follow the same path as for the other one, but you need to watch Gio's events and once he is on FLV 50, he will join you once this is a "Clear Save" run. To start the full Yuvel event you need for Gio and his trophy about Airshatter,"Changing the Past", Gio must be in your team (also before Airshatter awakens he needs to be a friend already). Once you are done with the village missions, visit it with Gio. You will get the MeMemo "Happy Uncle" then. Soon after, Airshatter awakens.

Proceed as in the description of the "A Rich Nation" trophy. Then defeat Airshatter. To get this ending, Gio must be in your team during the battle. In case he is not but he has offered to join you, Meruru will mention that he is not here and if they should really go farther in. For the battle, take a look at the "Changing the Past" trophy.

Once Airshatter is defeated, return back home to tell your people of the good news and you can watch the True Ending once the story ends.

  • Construct a statue of Meruru to mark your achievements.

Build the Memorial Park for 80 DP once you are rank VII. On rank VIII, you can build the Legendary Statue for 300 DP there.
