Guide's author note:

First, thanks for reading my guide! This is my first guide, so please bare with me. If you see any mistakes or have additions to the guide, don't hesitate and let me know via PM. I will fix whatever needs fixing as fast as I can.

Road Map:

  • Estimated trophy difficulty: 7.5/10
  • Offline: 31 (14(B), 10(S), 6(G), 1(P))
  • Approximate amount of time to platinum: 15 - 20+ hours, greatly dependent on skill
  • Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1, but you’ll most likely retry a lot of Zones
  • Missable trophies: None
  • Glitched Trophies: 2 - River(G) & Neutrino Speed Is Too Slow(G) (for more information see the introduction)
  • Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No known cheats
  • Does difficulty affect trophies?: No difficulty setting (besides 8-bit gamer mode in the Smith's Challenge, for which you only need to redo the 10th mission on this difficulty setting)

Introduction:

This game is in a way a variation on the classic game "Memory" (which coincidentally is also one of the available minigames). I say this because, due to it's speed, this game requires you to memorize all the things you have to do and when and where you have to do it. The consequence of this is that you will have to replay many of the Zones before you'll have mastered them. Sadly due to this, I can not possibly think of more tips that could help you, other than: keep trying and you'll succeed.

There are a few bugs you might encounter. Luckily all of them are easily fixed:

  • You might experience a bug where the River(G) and/or Neutrino Speed Is Too Slow(G) trophie(s) won’t pop. If this happens, simply collect another survivor in a Zone or Bonus Mission to unlock River(G) and/or replay a critical urgency Zone and earn the “Perfect” rank again to unlock Neutrino Speed Is Too Slow(G).

  • A bug might occur where playing through all the stages in 8-bit mode, without having beaten them in casual mode first, doesn't unlock the ingame award for the Navigator(G) trophy. Should this happen: replay the last level (10) in casual mode and the ingame award should unlock.

  • A bug might occur where getting a trophy doesn't unlock the associated ingame award (other than the Navigator(G) trophy, see above). Should this happen: go to the main menu, press the save button in the upper right corner, completely close the game and restart it, the ingame award should now be unlocked.

  • A bug might occur where the Ripley ingame award (and consequently Show Thumb Respect (P)) wont unlock, while you have all other ingame awards unlocked CHECK THIS THOROUGHLY, before proceeding. To solve this, use the calculator secret that is described in the spoiler in this post.

Steps:

1. Beat all 50 zones and earn the PERFECT score

Play through all the Zones and try to get the “Perfect” ranking immediately by:

  • Finishing the game within the fastest time limit
  • Rescuing every survivor
  • Getting more than the highest score requirement (by killing enemies and collecting items/survivors)
  • Not dying, if you do: hit start --> restart and try again

Once you've tried enough times to make a Zone your own, you will succeed in getting a "perfect" ranking.

A good advice is to primarily use  to kill enemies, instead of using :cross:, unless a situation has so many enemies so that the weapon under :cross: is better suited (this only happens 2 or 3 times though!).

Once you’ve gotten a “Perfect” ranking on all 50 Zones, you’ll have unlocked the following trophies:

(B) Velocity

(B) Face Palm Napalm

(B) Nakatomi

(B) Deadly

(B) Manhattan

(B) Double Whammy

(B) Triple Whammy

(S) Quadruple Whammy

(S) A Perfect 10

(S) Ahmad Dash

(S) Unstoppable

(S) Champion

(S) Mastered

(S) Penultimate

(S) We Don't Need Roads...

(S) Very Deadly

(G) Neutrino Speed Is Too Slow

(G) River

(G) Perfectionist

(G) Elite

2. Unlock and succeed in every bonus mission, play every minigame

During your playthrough, you should have collected a fair few bonus medals, if you haven’t collected them all, here is the list where to find them:

1. Zone 2

2. Zone 5

3. Zone 6

4. Zone 9 (Crab Nebula)

5. Zone 12 (Viper's Trial)

6. Zone 14 (Smith's Challenge)

7. Zone 16

8. Zone 19

9. Zone 21

10. Zone 23

11. Zone 25

12. Zone 27

13. Zone 30

14. Zone 32

15. Zone 34

16. Zone 35

17. Zone 39

18. Zone 44 (Rama Remembers)

19. Zone 47 (James vs Bolivar)

20. Zone 50 (Enders Game)

See http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/velocity-ultra/201839-bonus-secret-area-medal-locations-incl-screenshots.html for screenshots of the locations.

Beat them to unlock the following trophies:

(B) Taking All The Credit

(B) Slacker

(S) Perseus

(G) Navigator

3. Collect every remaining in-game award (mop up)

Collect the remaining trophies and awards in the game, which should be:

  • Hit boost 100 times in a single Zone
  • Find every secret area (see the http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/velocity-ultra/201839-bonus-secret-area-medal-locations-incl-screenshots.html)
  • Using the portal (:triangle:) teleport 1000 times (as this probably won't come naturally)
  • Beat Smith's Challenge on hard (you only have to complete the 10th stage in 8-bit mode to unlock this)
  • Beat the 18th Zone again, but this time without collecting the weapon upgrade
  • Beat the 21st Zone again, but this time without collecting any survivors
  • Find the wallpaper, options and enemies secrets

Completing these will earn you the following trophies:

(B) Kangaroo Fuel

(B) Discoverer

(B) Explorer

(B) The Force

(B) Dark Side

Completing all ingame awards will grant you:

(G) Ripley

and consequently

(P) Show Thumb Respect

Because this player earned it.

You will earn this shiny platinum after you obtain all the other trophies.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/731.jpg Velocity (B)

Complete a zone without letting go of boost.

This trophy will most likely come naturally. If it doesn't: don't have the :vitar: button pressed before starting the Zone or the trophy won't pop. You have a little over a second after the Zone has started to press and keep holding the :vitar: button. Zone 1 is the first Zone where you can get this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/624.jpg Face Palm Napalm (B)

Get trapped and killed by the scroll.

This trophy will come naturally. Should you want to get it early: let your ship get stuck under a wall and let the scroll catch up on you. Zone 1 is the first Zone where you can get this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/19E.jpg Kangaroo Fuel (B)

Hit boost 100 times in a zone.

This trophy won’t come naturally. I suggest to get this in Zone 1, by continuously pressing (and letting go of) the :vitar: button.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/261.jpg Deadly (B)

Destroy 500 Zetachron ships.

See “Elite".

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/A90.jpg Discoverer (B)

Discover at least one secret area.

See “Explorer".

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/90C.jpg Explorer (B)

Discover all the secret areas.

The secret area’s can be found in the following Zones:

1: Zone 17

2: Zone 22

3: Zone 26

4: Zone 28

5: Zone 32

6: Zone 35

7: Zone 39

8: Zone 40

9: Zone 45

10: Zone 49

See http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/velocity-ultra/201839-bonus-secret-area-medal-locations-incl-screenshots.html for screenshots of the locations.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/8DB.jpg Double Whammy (B)

Disable two switches in quick succession.

See “Quadruple Whammy".

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/9BC.jpg Manhattan (B)

Use pulse bombs to gain 50 multikills.

This trophy will come naturally if you use the right stick to kill enemies (which I highly recommend).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/C08.jpg Nakatomi (B)

Smash 500 pieces of glass.

This trophy will come naturally.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/78B.jpg The Force (B)

Complete Zone 18 without upgrading weapons.

I suggest to first complete this Zone as normal (preferably getting the “Perfect” rank before continuing). After that: replay the level and don’t collect the weapon upgrade item (found on the right side of the level). You don’t have to get a “Perfect” ranking to get this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/C4E.jpg Dark Side (B)

Complete zone 21 without rescuing any survivors.

I suggest to first complete this Zone as normal (preferably getting the “Perfect” rank before continuing). After that: replay the level and don’t collect any of the survivors (which will require some dodging/teleporting).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/018.jpg Triple Whammy (B)

Disable three switches in quick succession.

See “Quadruple Whammy".

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/7A1.jpg Taking All The Credit (B)

Get 140,000 points in the credits minigame.

You can get this trophy by going to “Credits” on the main menu. Just shoot as many letters of the credits as you can. You don’t have to destroy all the letters to get this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/55E.jpg Slacker (B)

Beat the minesweeper minigame.

Go to: “Flight Computer” --> “Mines” and beat the minigame. Keep trying and you’ll get better at it. Sometimes there’s no other way than to guess where a mine should be, for other tips I refer you to this website. If you're really stuck on this,

does a really great job at explaining the game! Edited by LordBeloved

Disable four switches in quick succession.

This trophy will come on your quest to perfecting all Zones. You have about 2-3 seconds time to hit the 4 switches.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/D4A.jpg Very Deadly (S)

Destroy 1000 Zetachron ships.

See “Elite”.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/034.jpg Perseus (S)

Complete the reaction test minigame.

After finding the 5th bonus medal, go to: “Flight Computer” --> “Missions” --> “Viper’s Trial” and complete the minigame. This is a version of Snake, many of you probably know well from the old Nokia phones, you have to collect 20 dots to get this trophy. Try to avoid making large circles, instead try to make curling waves from the top to the bottom, but not all the way to the bottom. Follow your own tracks around the screen.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/EC2.jpg Mastered (S)

Earn a PERFECT medal on Zone 50.

See “Perfectionist”.

Also, see

how to get a perfect ranking for this Zone.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/9AD.jpg Penultimate (S)

Reach Zone 50.

Achieve 5500xp to open Zone 50 up for play, once you enter the Zone this trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/9AD.jpg We Don't Need Roads... (S)

Complete Zone 50.

Finish Zone 50 in under a minute, there's no need to get a “Perfect” ranking.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/25B.jpg Navigator (G)

Complete the Smith's Challenge minigame.

After finding the 6th bonus medal, go to: “Flight Computer” --> “Missions” --> “Smith’s Challenge” and complete the minigame. This is a remake of the classic game “Lunar Lander”, complete the 10 stages to get this trophy (and in addition: after this you only need to complete the last stage on 8-bit gamer mode to unlock the ingame award, needed -amongst others- for the Ripley trophy!). A (very) general tip is to try and use the shield as little as possible as it burns up your fuel in mere seconds, also try to shoot down the enemies right away and from as far away as possible. Be patient, you’ll get through the stages eventually!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/B42.jpg Elite (G)

Destroy 5000 Zetachron ships.

This trophy will come naturally within your first playthrough. All kinds of enemies are included, so not just the flying enemies, but the (stationary) turrets as well.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/A0E.jpg Neutrino Speed Is Too Slow (G)

Earn a PERFECT medal on all Critical Urgency zones.

See “Perfectionist”.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/064.jpg River (G)

Rescue every survivor.

Rescue all survivors in all 50 Zones (will come naturally, as this is required for a "Perfect" ranking).

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/8EE.jpg Perfectionist (G)

Earn a PERFECT medal for every zone.

You will get a “Perfect” ranking when you:

  • Finish the game within the fastest time limit
  • Rescue every survivor
  • Get more than the highest score requirement (by killing enemies and collecting items/survivors)
  • Don’t die, if you do: hit start --> restart and try again

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/2055/4D2.jpg Ripley (G)

Collect every in-game award in Velocity Ultra.

Get all awards available in the game, which includes:

Completing all the (remaining) bonus missions, most of them require you to avoid hitting the walls and getting to the finish within a set time period. Others are (not including the bonus missions discussed above):

  • Bonus mission #4:
    Crab Nebula (Coconut Dodge):
Don't try to get all the items, you just have to make it past the 6 levels, your score doesn't matter!
  • Bonus mission #18:
    Rama Remembers (Memory):
Just complete one game, it doesn't matter which player wins.
  • Bonus mission #19:
    James vs Bolivar (Bomberman):
Just complete one game, it doesn't matter which player wins.
  • Bonus mission #20:
    Enders Game (Space Invaders):
Try to destroy the aliens from one side and keep destroying more aliens from that side, as this slows down the downward movement of all the aliens. When you've destroyed about half of the aliens, get in some quick shots on the lowest row, be cautious though as the lowest row is the most dangerous one. Keep at it and you'll finish this minigame without much effort!

    Finding all secrets:
  • Wallpaper secret:
In the "Flight Computer" menu, hold :square: and tap OS name.
  • Options secret:
Hold :vital: + :vitar: + + in the options menu.
  • Enemies secret:
Go to the hostiles menu in the flight computer, go to the enemy 'Predator' and hold :vital: + :vitar: + :square:. It then says congratulations on top.

    Getting the remaining ingame awards:
  • Using the long distance portal (:triangle:) teleport 1000 times (as this probably won't come naturally)
  • Beat Smith's Challenge on hard (you only have to complete the 10th stage in 8-bit mode to unlock this)

[spoiler=OptionalSecrets]

  • Icon secret:
Hold :square: + :triangle: + :lsright: for 10 seconds while in the "Flight Computer" menu.
  • Calculator secret:
Input 20132013 + the number of an award, then hit the = button (so for example: 20132013+1=20132014 for the first award) and this award will become unearned again! Be carefull when you do this!

Not sure if it helps but you can turn off a trophy with 20132013 + trophy (in game award) number in calcualtor and according to tweet from studio there is a code to turn them on too but could not work it out tried 1964-1990 ie 19601960 to 19901990 on a trophy I turn off (8) Secret Area 2, afterwards went and re earned trophy so this might help with the ripley bug if you turn of easy trophy (in game award) like secret area and hope it kicks when trophy is awared. Think Perfect Level 1 is glitched/blocked for me as can't beat my score as got all survivors before I got the time any hints anyone?

Any idea on the requirements for that do I need to play online as mostly play on the train, or is it a silver/gold medal needed don't think I will be able to get perfect on every level and know Level 1 is glitched/blocked anyway but would be nice if I know I could get the Champion trophy on the way even if I don't get perfect.

Got Perfect for level 1 this morning on the train not sure what I was doing wrong, but also got email from James at 7:56am this morning replying to my message on there website, what a dev wish more were like this.

You don't need an active connection to get a perfect ranking, I suppose you didn't meet all the requirements untill this morning? Good to hear that it's fixed though.

I will include your calculator secret in the guide (under optional secrets), thanks for sharing it with us!

I've added screenshots of the bonus medal and secret area locations (and, where possible, the location on the map). Hopefully my imageshack account holds out :p

This guide is now officially finished, bar the possible addition of some new secrets (in the calculator)

More secrets (they are from this pdf, but some are a bit different).

Menu polygons: in Minesweeper click top-left, top-right, bottom-right, bottom-left corners while holding :vitar: (and without hitting a bomb).

HP bar: hold :square: and :triangle: for 5 seconds in the radar map (:vital:).

Also I don't know what it does, but:

- press :start: + :triangle: while viewing awards number 5 (slacker) and 10 (explorer 3).

- in Minesweeper click bottom-left, bottom-right, top-right, top-left corners while holding :vital: (and without hitting a bomb).

It does play sound like something is unlocking, but I don't see anything new...

The Start + Triangle thing makes the screen somehow blurry when you choose to play a zone..I didnt find what the other is doing..

I had a different way of glitch..

5-6 minutes ago I was trying to get perfect on zone 50 ( my last one to get perfect on ) and for the first time Im doing a gold time but not perfect cause I missed 2 survivors..Then , Neutrino trophy popped even though I didnt get a perfect rating..I had played the zones that way so I could get 3 trophies simultaneously ( perfect on 50 , perfect on all , perfect on critical urgency zones )

Has anyone else experienced that?

EDIT : I got perfect , got trophy for zone 50 , for perfect on all zones , but in the in-game awards , the gold trophy is still greyed out even though the award is earned..I really dont have a clue why this has happened and I posted in the thread made by the teams devs so they can tell me if there is a way around it..

Try redoing (and perfecting) Zone 3 for the final gold trophy, but strange indeed.

Hi, thanks for this guide.

However I have one question, about how to get the Perfect rank. I'm currently trying to get the Perfect for Zone 11 and I kill every enemies, rescue all survivors and finish in the time limit but I didn't get Perfect :(

So when you say : "Getting more than the highest score requirement (by killing enemies and collecting items/survivors)", does that include getting the items dropped by enemies ? The thing that reload your power, and the other that restore your health.

In most of the levels getting the items will give you the required score to get perfect..Levels with lost of enemies , 'require' from you to kill all enemies and get the bonus they leave behind once you kill them..

You don't have to get any of the pick ups, just move around the screen to avoid the obstacles.

Or can you be more specific what is keeping you from getting the award?

All i got to plat is that stupid end game.. im stuck on it all day.. is there a way to start from lvl 4? and how many lvls is it?

If what you mean is the Space Invaders mini-game, then there are only 4 levels.

The last level is pretty annoying yeah. Personally I found it easiest to first shoot down one side in lvl 4 and then slowly work my way left.

There is no way to start at lvl 4 however. You'll have to start from 1 every time :(

Good luck!

This is just a reminder to submit your guide once you've got any kinks worked out :).

Thanks!

But I would like to wait for the update to be released, so that the platinum trophy no longer is bugged.

Also there are signs that there might be cheat codes available, which I would like to include as well.
