Anyway, started the challenges today, got as far as 4-5. Will soldier on.

I hope i can keep up this kind of progress but I'm starting to doubt it, since I keep getting savagely beaten up on 4-5. Still haven't found the right tactic even with all the tips here.

5 was pretty easy with the right tactic, 4 was plainly stupid. If 4 is a 9/10, then 6 is a... 27/10.

challenge 6 is an absolute pain in the ass. it took me longer to get that damn trophy than all the rest combined. extremely frustrating at times. good luck to anyone trying for this plat

This may be a ridiculous question, but is it possible to start the challenges with upgraded weapons? I had a ton of upgrades at the end of my Hard play through, then changed it to Casual Auto for cleanup in mission select...but all my upgrades went away.

Just curious as I don't want to try to take these on if I can use upgraded weapons.

nope your weapons are back to normal... no upgrades

Challenges are separate from Story accomplishments. Upgrades are for that playthrough only, They aren't any sort of permanent thing you've collected and will always have now, that's why when you go to a new playthrough the weapons are started fresh again.
There are some upgrade drops from enemies in some of the Challenges though. Not many though, but enough to help you out a bit at a critical moment.
