DM's new cover designs
ATTENTION: It appears that the uploading site i used for downloading my covers is no longer available. If you know a good alternative, please send me a message or post in this thread. I will gladly reupload the covers for PS3T users once I have an alternative download location. Thanks for the interest and years of support! Hi my name is dancingmind, but my friends call me dm for short. So as it was discussed in the OCD covers thread, many are peeved that SONY has changed the way the cases look. I for one welcome the new design because it makes everything look crisper. It does however make your collection not line up properly and for many that is ANNOYING. Here is my solution: The quick "tabs" fix I designed new PS3 black tabs to replace the red ones of old. This will make your PS3 collection appear the same from the side! It is easy to do and doesn't require a super perfect print job. Just follow these easy steps: 1. Download the PDF and print it Right click this link and download the linked PDF to your computer. You can print these off at home to customize your cases yourself, OR put it on a USB drive and take it to a printing place to get a better quality print. ![]() 2. Cut out the tabs Like the picture above you can cut out the tabs and make them ready for inserting. DO NOT do what i did in this photo and cut off the top off the tab. The idea is to have a blank white space on the top and then the printed tab at the bottom. This way you can fold the tab and place it in the case. The pictures following will better explain. ![]() 3. Place tab into case Open up the PS3 case. Fold the new tab like the picture above. ![]() Push the tab so that the white part is going behind the original print and the new printed part is under the plastic. 4. Enjoy the awesomeness The best step.. Look at how they look the same from the side. Joy! ![]() ............................. !!! dm! It doesn't work for all my cases!!!!!! Okay... it was a quick fix and it won't work for all PS3 cases. See... you need to have enough space so that it doesn't cover the title on the spine. See this example of Uncharted becoming Charted: ![]() And this is when i got into my Custom designed PS3 cases.

Custom Designs
![]() FAQ Q: Where can I get a copy of one of your designs?!?! A: Check the list below and see which covers are available to download. Bring them to a printer (don't use a crappy home one!) and pay a couple bucks per print. Sometimes they will charge you for their time too ... which sucks. Q: I tried printing one of your designs from this thread and it doesn't fit the case A: What you are seeing on this page are just samples! They are small so they will load quickly for everyone to see. You'll want to print from a full resolution PDF file linked below. They are around 10-20 MBs each and the lettering should be easy to read. Q: What did you print it on/How much does it cost to print? It costs about $2.00 CDN to print a cover to print it on good paper. Ask for a semi glossy high quality printed paper. The size you want is called "legal" (8.5" x 14"), but some places will make you print on "tabloid" size (11" x 17"). I used to print at FedEx/Kinkos, but their service and extra fees are awful. Do a search for printing places in your neighborhood and ask questions. Remember you are a customer and they should be willing to help you get the best quality you want. Q: Can I request new designs?! A: I am no longer taking requests for designs. There are too many issues surrounding this unfortunately. From now on I will just be exchanging designs with close friends. Q: Why no PAL versions? A: I live in Canada, so I am used to seeing NTSC cover designs. It's no favoritism, it's just what I am used to. History ![]() ![]() This is the first design i did in 2001. If you agree that the original cover sucks royal ass, then you'll understand why i had to fix it. I let designing covers go for a long time after that until I finally joined the new generation of consoles and bought a PS3 slim. Then they went and changed their cases to not match anymore. I have to say your collection looks very smart with matching margins. I'm not that OCD about them though, I've just got the old cases lined up, and then the new ones lined up next to it. Maybe if I'm bored one day. I have one case I won't be able to do it for though - InFamous (Special Edition) as it's cardboard.
Edit: What I would find more annoying than margins that do not match, is opening a case and the new tab that you've added falling out, or moving out of place. That would just add an extra complication, unless of course you're gluing them on.. Last edited by parker; 04-09-2010 at 07:14 PM. |

Custom Design: COD Modern Warfare 2
![]() I had a lot of requests for this game since it is one of the biggest sold game ever. It was a challenge since.... well i don't own the game so I don't actually know what it looks like. Why I don't is another question. Everyone has tastes and like fans of this game may hate LBP, I am the opposite. To each their own... let's move on ![]() The hardest part about this design is it is near impossible to find a complete scan of the PS3 design. I looked everywhere and ultimately came up short. There are a lot of fan remade designs though if you are looking for one to print yourself. Another fun part was making the logo from scratch. I think I emulated it pretty successfully, but again it's hard to tell without seeing the physical copy for comparison (or even a full page internet scan). So tell me if I missed something for this design. I am especially curious about the back cover. Also special thanks to SinRG for supplying the BLUS code on the spine. I am completely impressed. You put alot of work into this and it looks great.
Doesn't mean I care enough to use it though lol however with that type of ingenuity and thoroughness I look forward to you writing some trophy guides and walkthroughs. |

DM, looks amazing. I think the slip covers are pretty damn efficient, I think I'll go with those instead of full covers. You bring up a solid point about GTA IV though, the holgraphic design is too awesome to re-print lol.
Looking at my collection, the games that won't benefit from new slips--and require spine overhauls--are: - Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - Call of Duty World at War - Resistance - Uncharted Borderlands, using FFXIII as a reference, barely makes the slips lol. Awesome work man. Even though MGS4 can handle the slip, I perfer your design 100x more.
