auto-reload trophy?

for the auto reload trophy. i understand that i cant restart checkpoint but i CAN die in order to do a section over again and have it still count...

but my question is what happens when i run out of ammo or want to pick more ammo up? does that reset the counter?? or what about picking up a different gun all together...

if im close to running out of ammo should i just die and keep doing it that way?
