Just finished watching Breaking Bad, series 4 (fantastic show, you must watch it!). I got them from online as we don't seem to have it here in the UK after series 1 so it was a direct feed from AMC.
What I found peculiar is how some things are edited. By some things I mean the word 'fuck' and it's variants. In the first four series this word is said three times (I notice crap like that). Two of those times I watched from AMC and the sound was cut so that our ears weren't offended. A show like Breaking Bad would be aired after 9 in the UK, so nothing would be cut. But the main issue I have is how other things that are pale in comparison are not edited. There is a scene at the beginning of series 4 where someone has their throat slit. We see the big gaping cut, the blood pouring out and the man struggling to breathe. It's a very uncomfortable scene and it seems to take forever for the man to die. I'm not prudish in any way, I just find it funny that American networks think it's okay to show full on violence, but heaven forbid somebody says 'fuck'! Is this normal? Does anyone else find this annoying or is it just me? |

I find it very annoying. For crying out loud most cable networks these days in America have shows where characters say "ass," "asshole," and "shit" like it's nobody's business. These characters are already swearing so what's the big deal if you add "fuck" to the mix? I just don't get it.

yes american censorship doesnt allow ANY nudity(besided butts or sideboobs) or swear words other than Shit on TV and that is only if its 10pm or later. So much for a free country.

i dont get this kind of censorship either, if i was an american kid hearing all those BEEPs it would just encourage me to learn and use all those "forbidden" words. Censorship just makes things more interesting than they really are imo.
The nudity thing is even stranger to me, you're allowed to show hardcore violence on TV but no harmless titties? seriously who makes these laws..

In actuality, any channel that is paid for (cable, satellite, etc) doesn't have to censor language, since the US law really only applies to broadcast networks. But many paid channels do it anyway because that's the expectation. Others will show unedited stuff late at night... Comedy Central does it all the time.
I also don't understand why super graphic violence is allowed, but simple nudity isn't. We've all seen ourselves naked, what's the point? Last edited by Vyrastas; 01-21-2012 at 12:30 AM. |
