Well, my PS3's disc-drive is almost about to die for good. Since January it's been giving me an eject sound and then the disc icon wont show up. An eject/insert later and the disc icon shows. As I said it's been that way since January, but twice over the past few days I've inserted some discs and once the disc icon doesn't pop I cant even eject the disc, until I switch my PS3 off.
So I think the disc drive is officially dying. Next week I'm going to buy myself a second PS3 and not get my current one repaired, instead I'll be using it for downloaded games and the new one for retail-discs. What I'd like to know is; Do I HAVE to de-activate any of my PSN accounts on my current PS3? What's going to go on the new PS3 are my retail-disc game saves and DLC/patches for retail-games. On the current, wrecked PS3, I'm going to have my downloadable-game saves and the downloadable games themselves. So I'd like to have the same PSN Accounts on both PS3, so not to de-activate any of them on the current one. I don't need to de-activate any psn accounts, right? Of course I cant be logged onto the same PSN Account at the same time, which I wont ever do anyway. Last edited by JHChiBulls; 05-25-2012 at 04:54 AM. |

If you're still gonna use the old one for downloadable games, you can keep the account activated even when starting to use the new PS3.

My PS3 has absolutely no power, no light, no sounds when I try to turn it on. I turned it on, ejected a movie, put a movie in it, when to make popcorn, and when I came back nothing. I've done all the common troubleshooting so I'm guess it could be the power supply?
Anyone else ever have this or tips of what else it might be? |

Well I have got the YLOD and I have a plan but I wanted a bit of advice first if anyone can help me please? I am going to get it fixed locally by a tech place which does them, providing my save data is still Ok I plan to back up my games saves to memory stick and deactivate my PS3 then trade it in for a slim (I have had a fattie 80gb since launch) so here are my questions:
1. When I load my game data up on the new PS3 and load up say COD, Killzone or GT5 then go to play on-line will I have to buy on-line passes to play again? Like will it think I have bought the game second hand or does it know through my PSN account & I'm Ok? 2. Can I deactivate my PS3 through the system itself without having to ring Sony? Any help would be very much appreciated (I'm in the UK), to say I am gutted is an under statement

![]() Just to check with your answer to 1 - I don't have any on-line passes because I buy my games from new so will I have to buy on-line passes for my new machine? |

I'm in need of some help or advice if anyone can please?
I've just got the YLOD this week. Absolutely gutted, had my original 60GB PS3since the day it was released over here in UK and now it's dead ![]() I've read quite a few of the posts on here. I have a disc stuck in mine, i've tried pressing the eject button, turning it on and keeping eject pressed but it's not starting up enough. All it does, everytime, is start then go to a yellow light, beep, then flash red. Is my game lost forever? Thankfully it was only World Cup 2010 which if it is lost, would be nice and cheap to replace, but i'd rather it not be!! Also i had upgraded my HDD to a 750GB one. Will this be the reason for the YLOD or will it just be simply due to the age of the console? I've taken out the 750GB HDD and put the 60GB one back in to see if that made it work, it didn't!! Will my saved games, etc still be on my 750GB HDD so if i buy another console and replace it i'll still have everything i had before? Also, does anyone know how/if i can wipe the 60GB HDD? I'm just thinking that if i decide to sell it on ebay or anything as faulty, if someone fixed it would they then have all my PSN account details and games and everything? Sorry for all the questions and the mish mash way of asking, i'm just not very good with the technical side of these things. I just play the games!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks guys. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Does anyone know how to retrieve info from a PS3 HDD Yet? I have an 80g HDD sitting in a case wondering if I'll ever get my data back! My 80g Phatty went YLOD during the data transfer (so close...)! And after some bum youtube university noob tech engineerin, i doubt sony would even classify it as a PS3 anymore.

My PS3 died a while ago with the YLOD and I bought a new Slim.
Can I take the 60GB HDD and make an external drive out of it? Or it wouldn't work because it's a PS3 hdd? Edit: I don't want to take the data out of it, just format and use it has an external hdd. Last edited by jvaferreira; 06-12-2012 at 12:10 PM. |
