Default 1080p Vs 1080i

forgive me if there is another thread like this, i tried searching but came up short of nothing.

I was wondering if someone could explain the difference, i just got a new tv today and it is 1080i and someone said that it wasn't good because of that?
T.v looks beautiful too me and every game looks amazing on it and thats what i bought it for, gaming and blu rays

So anyone know the difference? is 1080i bad?
thank you very much in advance for any information

feel free to argue about which is better

1080i isnt bad but 1080p is better. Progressive scan vs Interlaced with 1080i there are fewer lines (540) refreshed on the screen at any one time. With 1080p all 1080 lines are refeshed at the same time. Some say (i) is better for slow moving pictures displayed on your screen while fast moving images look better in (p)

The simple answer it that 1080p can display the highest form (high definition image) to date. Depending on the cost difference, and your exchange options, you might not want to make a big deal about it thou.

I can't really tell. HD video output is not my speical. Yeah, 1080p and 1080i all look the same to me and they both look great. I thought 720p was good enough for my big screen and gaming system so these two made it even better.

This gonna sound dumb... but why does my Hitachi T.V say 720P is the highest but my games are in 1080p? Is it cause the HDMI giving it better HD?

a high def TV starts with 720P then 1080i then 1080p

the 1080p is the highest or best you can get at the moment but keep in mind that no cable provider uses anything higher than 1080i except blu-ray DVD or maybe some games but other than that nothing as far as i can remember

keep in mind that it also depends on the TV size
for example if TV size is like 40 inches and bigger a 1080p is a must
but also look at the refresh rate like 120Hz or more

Where did you find a TV that was only 1080i? I haven't seen one in a couple years on the market.

Your TV's native resolution is probably only 720p. Regardless of the source, your TV will only display 720.

Satellite providers offer 1080p ppv channels. Also 120hz is only something you need with LCD TV's. Stick with plasma. They don't have the refresh issues.
