Default Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory HD Trophy Guide and Road Map

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory HD Trophy Guide and Roadmap

Overview

-Estimated trophy difficulty: 7/10
-Offline: 37 (21 ,11 ,4 , 1)
-Online: 0
-Approximate amount of time to Platinum: 15-20 hours
-Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 3
-Number of missable trophies: 3 – Makes you feel alive, Greater Good, Immune
-Glitched trophies: None
-Does Difficulty affect trophies: YesBlackOps Specialist, Makes you feel alive, Sentinel

Welcome to the third installment of the Splinter Cell series HD. You will be required to do 3 playthroughs due to difficulty trophies not stacking. I recommend starting out on Normal so you can have a easier time learning the maps, enemy positions and going for all the misc trophies.

If you want a guide to follow or something easy to reference when searching for trophy-related locations, I highly recommend this Walkthrough.

Step 1 - Playthrough 1: Normal Difficulty

For this playthrough you will want to get the following trophies: Greater Good, Immune & Sentinel.

Step 2 - Playthrough 2 & 3: Hard/Expert Difficulty

Depending on your choice you can either go straight onto Expert to get BlackOps Specialist or you can play Hard, but be warned the Makes you feel alive trophy can be very frustrating so I would leave it for last.

Step 3 – Clean up

Providing you have not started a new game, you can use mission select to go back and get any missing trophies (except difficulty trophies).

Youtube videos in the guide below are my own so I hope they will be some help.

Thanks for reading!

Trophy Guide

Splinter Cell
Unlock all trophies

This is your reward for obtaining all the other trophies.

BlackOps Specialist
Complete the game in Expert difficulty

Start a new game on Expert and complete it.

Makes you feel alive
Complete the game in Hard difficulty without being killed more than 5 times

When you die the game will save your death so reloading a earlier checkpoint won't work. At the start of each mission, save your game and copy your save over to a memory stick and if you die, you've got a backup in place.

Greater Good
Achieve above 80% success rate in all missions.

Refer to the road map for a walkthrough if you're struggling with any missions. Below are my top tips to help your score. After completing the game and receiving your final score, the trophy should unlock but I believe your final score has to be higher than 80%.
  • Watch the training videos at the main menu (they really do help).
  • At the start of each mission, pick the Stealth load out (or Redding's if you prefer flash bangs).
  • Complete secondary objectives.
  • Avoid being detected as an intruder and setting off alarms.
  • Use to knock out guards and hide their bodies where no one will find them.
Immune
Complete the game without using a medkit

Playing on Normal will make this trophy very easy; simply complete the game without using any medkits. For mission 10: Kokubo Sosho you may want to refer to "Not Today".

Out of the Spotlight
Complete the Lighthouse mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 1: Lighthouse to unlock the trophy.

Cruise control
Complete the Cargo ship mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 2: Cargo Ship to unlock the trophy.

Money matters
Complete the Bank mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 3: Bank to unlock the trophy.

Apple Pie
Complete the Penthouse mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 4: Penthouse to unlock the trophy.

Displacement
Complete the Displace mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 5: Displace to unlock the trophy.

The Way of the Echelon
Complete the Hokkaido mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 6: Hokkaido to unlock the trophy.

Fright of Neighbors
Complete the Battery mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 7: Battery to unlock the trophy.

Plight of Neighbors
Complete the Seoul mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 8: Seoul to unlock the trophy.

Cleaning Duty
Complete the Bathhouse mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 9: Bathhouse to unlock the trophy.

The Star in the East
Complete the Kokubo Shosho mission

Story related, can't be missed.
Complete mission 10: Kokubo Shosho to unlock the trophy.

Sentinel
Complete the game in Normal difficulty

Start a new game on Normal and complete it to unlock this trophy.

Topsy turvy
Take out 5 guards from ledge or over the rail

You can pull one guard over a rail in missions 1. Lighthouse & 4. Penthouse.

Warning: video may contain spoilers.

Default Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory HD Trophy Guide and Roadmap

Art of Unseen
Do not be detected throughout a mission

The first mission would be the easiest to do this trophy on, since there are no alarms or cameras to worry about.

Silent Death from above
Take out 5 enemies by inverted neck grip

When under a pipe, press & again to attach yourself to the pipe and when an enemy is under Sam and you see the dialogue box: “Grab character,” press to do an inverted neck grip.

Warning: video may contain spoilers.

Enhanced perception
Hack 10 terminals without scanning them

Press to “Use computer” then press again on “Security Access” if the option is available. Mission 3: Bank, has a lot of computers you can hack.

Darkside
Disable 40 electronics using the OCP

Aim your pistol at an electrical source (e.g. Light bulb) and press to temporarily disable it.

Good ol' Pump-action
Take out 5 guards with the shotgun

Get out your SC-20K assault rifle and press to switch to the shotgun attachment. This can only be done on the following missions:

7. Battery
8. Seoul
9. Bathouse
10. Kokubo Shosho

(Make sure you pick the right loadout)

Not Today
Free yourself when captured

Mission 10: Kokubo Shosho, when you go down an escalator, Redding will talk about 3 LTL guards at the bottom. Let them capture Sam and he will wake up inside an interrogation room handcuffed. Picklock the cuffs, then the trophy should unlock when Sam gets up.

Note: If you are going for "Immune" I recommend making a save before being captured otherwise you will have to complete the mission with only a quarter of your health left.

Warning: video may contain spoilers.

Life's Edge
Neutralize 20 enemies with the combat knife

Go up to a enemy and use to kill them with your knife. Playing through half of mission 1: Lighthouse and knifing everyone should unlock the trophy.

Dignity and Honor
Free Morgenholt

Mission 1: Lighthouse – Right at the beginning, past the wooden bridge and room full of barrels, you enter another room where you will hear Morgenholt being tortured. Take out the guard(s) and press to cut him down and the trophy should unlock.

Dead Man Hanging
Leave Morgenholt hanging

Do the opposite of "Dignity and Honor" and don't cut Morgenholt down, trophy should unlock after completing the mission.

Final Cruise
Eliminate Lacerda

Story related can't be missed. Mission 2: Cargo Ship, when you have learned that Lacerda is in the captain's quarters, go down there. After he has complained about bribing an inspector he will go get a drink, this will be your opportunity to assassinate him and unlock the trophy.

Worms
Hack 3 retinal scanners

Go near a scanner and use your EEV to hack it from a distance. There is 1 retinal scanner in each of the following missions:

3. Bank – Across from the sleeping guard after climbing down the rope.
5. Displace – Near where a guard sits at his desk and opposite the door to the gym-like area.
7. Battery – After taking the lift up you should see a guard and camera to your right and the scanner straight ahead on the right side of a door.
10. Kokubo Shosho – After taking the escalator down, go right down some small steps to find the scanner on the left side of a wall.

Knock, Knock-out
Knock out 5 guards by bashing doors

Pick a level you are familiar with, get behind a door and use whistle to lure a guard you can see towards the door. Press and select “Bash door” to knock the guard out.

BSOD
Shutdown 10 computer terminals

Go up to a computer and press then select “Shutdown pc”. Mission 3: Bank has plenty of computers to switch off.

Heat Waves
Snipe 10 enemies in Thermal mode

Switch to thermal vision and kill any enemies using the SC-20K assault rifle while zoomed in. If you do this on mission 1: Lighthouse, the trophy should unlock by the time you get up to the IT Technician guy (by the laptop).

Dire consequnces
Eliminate Milan Nedich

Story related can't be missed. Mission 6: Hokkaido, Milan will have a conversation with his men about the Displace offices being turned over in New York. Kill Milan and the trophy should unlock.

Price of Betrayal
Eliminate Douglas Shetland

Mission 9: Bathhouse, after disabling the last bomb (and killing the last guard) you will go through a door. After a small struggle with Shetland, you will both hold each other at gunpoint. After he says “you wouldn't shoot an old friend“ prove him wrong and shoot.

Price of Friendship
Show mercy to Douglas Shetland

Like "Price of Betrayal" but instead, put your pistol away by pressing .

Bushido
Save and Capture otomo

Story related, can't be missed. Mission 10: Kokubo Shosho, after stopping the launch of another North Korea missile you will go and confront Otomo. When he impales himself with a dagger, you will need to take the vent on the floor to your right and go save his life by pressing near him to remove the blade - trophy will unlock when the mission finishes.

Unsung Hero
Perform acts of untold heroism in Seoul

Mission 8: Seoul, when you come up to the crash site, go right to the front of the plane and carry the 2 pilots back to the alleyway (watch out for the tank), then go and call in an air strike.

Tip: the walkthrough in the roadmap has a good strategy for dealing with the pilots and tank.

Cold Duty
Sacrifice the Pilots as per order

Like "Unsung Hero" but instead leave the pilots and call in the air strike, trophy will unlock when the mission ends.

You might want to add that sometimes mission trophies don't pop after you've finished the mission - weird glitch, but it's happened to me on the Cargo Ship mission already. The solution is to just load up the last save and finish the mission again.

That may off been a one time glitch, I personally have not come across this but if it becomes more widespread then I will add it to the guide.

I will be adding the last 2 trophy images when they get uploaded to the site.

Does difficulty make a difference when it comes to your success rating missions? I'm starting out on normal and already completed the first mission twice and highest I've gotten is 75% (second time) which was an improvement over 58% first time as I didn't scan all the crates.

You have to complete the secondary and optional objectives as well as not kill anyone (and not set off any alarms or be spotted, naturally) in order to get to 100%.

I don't think you can get above 75% on the first mission if you don't scan every crate since there are only a few objectives. I used a walkthrough to make sure that I got every single objective.

Well even scanning every crate, I got 75%. The reason for not getting 80+ must because I've killed people, or Morgenholt can be saved and I'm just not able to do it as I've been letting him get fried.

No, saving Morgenholt isn't possible AFAIK. Killing enemies on the other hand will lower your score quite significantly.

can you confirm that the Greater Good trophy can not be achieved using mission select. i scored above 80% on 5 missions during my first play through. without starting a new game i got above 80% on the other 5 using mission select but no trophy.
