Right im having some trouble with this one and would like a few tips.
I have tried varying difficulties and to me it seems to have no positive effect to play at a higher difficulty. Playing on beginner, with me destroying everything I can possibly see and flying through everything to get the rings as quickly as possible so they dont evaporate away, the closest I can get is 933 rings. Now if I was say 10 short I would probably put it down to maybe missing 1 or 2 ships but I know im not missing 10 to 15 ships throughout the level so where am I going wrong?? Im using the prototype ship as the beam weapon seems to be able to kill quickest and at a distance, plus has a pretty wide hit area. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks |

If you're not doing it already, then when destroying the drills and the blasters on the boss fight, keep shooting them with the Beam even when you've drained their health and they're exploding, they should still spit out a few rings for a couple of seconds. It might be enough to bring you to 999.

I did this with the Magma laser from Mexxus II, and it's important to note that you should NOT use shockwaves or limit attacks, as they do excessive amounts of damage but don't yield the same amount of chain rings as simply shooting the enemies.
Your difficulty setting is going to be inconsequential at this point, since that only affects your ship's amount of damage taken on hits. Your dynamic play rank (in the upper right corner) probably needs to be at least a C to spawn enough enemies for the 999 rings. You can keep this up by A) killing everything onscreen and not letting any enemies get away and, B) not letting anything hit your ship. |

This is BS. I can't get more than like 670 by the boss. If I collect all the rings enemies fly by, which do I focus on? If I ignore rings and shoot everything down will more rings appear later? The ship isn't fast enough to do both.

Does the difficulty matter? I think the game is more focused around your rank and I'm not 100% sure how that works. Do I shoot more or get hit less, pick up all items and rings? I hate missing rings dropped from enemies just coming on the screen but if I move forward then something appears behind me and is gone since I can't shoot backwards. If I shoot the enemies first then the rings vanish. My record by the time the boss explodes is only like 850 to under 900.
Or if it matters I don't have the third ship. I use the spread gun on the Mexxus most. |

This game is mocking me!!
![]() I have now tried this 5 times and got the following: 991 990 976 989 901 I don't understand how I could be getting worse at this challenge. I am playing on easy, using the Magma weapon, I hit just about everything that appears and I kill them right away. I also grab the rings immediately. It's almost like the better your rank - the less rings you get. I think I am done with this challenge for now though. I may try it again when I unlock the 3rd ship. Just too frustrated to see the huge FAILED logo pop up again.

No, he's not. It's a hard challenge indeed.
But you're doing one big mistake: playing on easy. On easy, enemies are scarcer, and weaker. To the following: Start the stage, DO NOT pick up any power ups in the beginning and across the stage, play on normal, and then hit everything you see on sight. I've managed to get 999 before the boss's drill attack. And be sure to play on Normal or higher difficulty. Play on Hard, just to be sure... |
