beginner mode

How to unlock, could someone explain in more detail. I have tried on all difficulties and died over a dozen times. I'm assuming that letting a monster kill you does not count. Where can you fall to your death or something.

I read that on Normal it only takes 2 deaths, so I'm confused. Do you have to get farther into the game.

I press R1 to go to Extra menu, but no beginner mode option.

Die three times on Easy. Of course a monster has to kill you!

I recommend dying by the first Closer in the mall. Unlike the Numb Body, which literally takes minutes to kill you, it deals reasonable damage even on Easy. You'll then get a notification after the Game Over screen.

I gotta admit im confused about this as well. So I put the game in, start it up on Easy, die 3x by the first monster I see, hopefully get the beginner mode option, quit the game, start up a new game, first chance I get switch it to beginner mode in the menu and then continue with that game?

And doing this doesn't disable any trophies?

If its really that easy then I would just do a straight playthrough to get the Makes My Head Hurt trophy. That's the only trophy im worried about

Just die three times on Easy, and the option will unlock. You can enable Beginner mode at any time in an Easy (or Normal, not that it matters) playthrough. The only effect it has is a loss of 1.5 big stars on your rank (which isn't tied to any trophies in SH3).

To enable the option, go to the options menu either in-game or at the title screen, press L1/R1 to enter Extra options, and change Beginner Mode to On.

It's easy and doesn't affect trophies. If you need confirmation, I got the 2-saves and sub-3-hours trophies on my first playthrough, on Beginner.

But doesn't dying 3x count as 3 saves? If it does then I wouldn't get the Makes My Head Hurt trophy

Once Beginner setting (Beginner is not a difficulty mode) is activated, just start a new game. And as recommended elsewhere, play your first and second games on Normal Mode (with Beginner activated).
