Default Sam & Max The Devil's Playhouse Episode 3 Road Map, Trophy Guide and Walkthrough

This guide is intended for use on PS3Trophies.org only. You may not copy this guide and post it elsewhere, regardless of if you try to pass it off as your own work or give me credit. Changing the wording slightly to try to pass it off as your own work is also forbidden.

If you still have any questions to ask about this game and its trophies, or just want to say thanks, feel free to create an account and say hi. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, and there are plenty of other great guides for other games written by others who will be happy to help you get your trophies.

Overview:
- Estimated trophy difficulty: 2/10 - Difficulty rating has been decided by the forum members in the difficulty rating thread.
- Offline: 10 (5 , 4 , 1 )
- Online: 0
- Approximate amount of time to 100%: 1-10 hours
- Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1
- Number of missable trophies: 6
- Glitched trophies: 0
- Do cheat codes disable trophies?: No cheats

Introduction: They Stole Max's Brain returns to a more traditional story progression style after the movie reel swapping of Episode 2, and for that the game is fairly straightforward when it comes to trophy completion. It once again progresses through four acts, the end of each act being marked by receiving one of the four story related trophies. You should easily be able to pick them all up, along with the non-story related trophies, on one playthrough, even without the guide, just by checking over the trophy titles and descriptions before starting and keeping them in mind as you play. Furthermore, the episode itself is short, so going back for a second playthrough to mop up if necessary will not take that long. Due to this, I would recommend not using any guides on your first run, as figuring out all the puzzles on your own has always been the spirit of these kind of adventure games. This is especially true for the walkthrough I have written here, as I wrote it to get you from the start to the end with all 10 of the trophies under your belt, but you will miss a lot of funny references and dialogs if you use it.

The only thing to watch out for are the missable trophies. Aside from the four that are tied to story events, all of them can be missed. They are as follows:
  • Bad Cop/Sad Cop
  • The Grand Tour
  • Blimp's Eye View
  • Tweenage Angst
  • Drop a Dime
  • Rhinoplastastic
This is because as you complete the story, you will lose and/or use required items, characters will become unavailable, or the plot moves you along to a new location while leaving old locations inaccessible. But again, just looking at their descriptions alone and keeping them in mind should make them all quite easy to pick up, and if not, a second playthrough to mop up.

Step 1: Play the story. You will pick up the four plot related trophies, and will probably have little trouble getting most of the rest. Again, I would recommend not using a guide for this playthrough, but if all you're looking for is a set of quick trophies, go ahead and use the guide to knock them all out in one go.

Step 2: If you happened to miss any of the six missable trophies in your first playthrough, play the game again to mop up. If you need this step, it will not take long seeing as how you already know how to advance the plot this time. However, if you want to get through as fast as possible while picking up any trophies you missed, this is a good time to check out the walkthrough. Also, you may use to skip any dialog you don't want to hear again.

Default Trophy Guide

Pound the Pavement
Tracked Max's brain-thieves to the Museum
This trophy is awarded for completing Act 1. It is story related and cannot be missed. If you get stuck, see "Reunited (And it Feels So Good)".

Saboteur!
Foiled an evil alliance and recovered Max's brain
This trophy is awarded for completing Act 2. It is story related and cannot be missed. If you get stuck, see "Reunited (And it Feels So Good)".

All Hail Sammun-Mak
Infiltrated the boy-king's inner circle
This trophy is awarded for completing Act 3. It is story related and cannot be missed. If you get stuck, see "Reunited (And it Feels So Good)".

Reunited (And it Feels So Good)
Lobotomized the Pharaoh and got Max his brain
This trophy is awarded for completing Act 4. It is story related and cannot be missed. If you get stuck, see my walkthrough which can be found here.

Bad Cop/Sad Cop
Threaten and "Noir" everyone you meet on the street in Act 1
There are three people on the street you will interact with in Act 1: a space ape, Frankie the rat, and a confused tourist. Simply select the "Noir" (in the upper left) and "Threaten" (bottom) dialog options with each of them as they try to tell you their stories.
You will lose your chance for this trophy once you proceed to Act 2.

The Grand Tour
Explore the museum completely
In Act 2, you will find a "tour headset" on display in the bottom right corner of the main room. Take this, and then examine tour controller in your inventory with . Sam will pull out a remote with 12 buttons on it. Select all 12 buttons to listen to the tour, and the trophy will unlock shortly after you listen to the last part of the tour. You may skip the dialog of the tour with if you wish to speed this up slightly.
You can still unlock this trophy after you have placed the tour headset on Sal, but once you proceed to Act 3 you will have lost your chance.

Blimp's Eye View
Turn into the Hindenburg in every room and get a bird's eye view of the environment
In Act 2, you will first have to find a brain to put in Max's body. After that is done, return to the main room of the museum (the one you were in when you started Act 2), and use the Rhinoplasty on the picture of the Hindenburg. You can find it on the left side of the room, it will have reddish/orange sparkles around it, making it easy to find. Then simply transform into the Hindenburg (select your Rhinoplasty and press when the Hindenburg is shown on it) in each of the three rooms: the main room where you found the picture of the Hindenburg, the Egypt exhibit room, and the office (you must teleport to reach it).
You will lose your chance for this trophy once you proceed to Act 3.

Tweenage Angst
Have Sammunmak banish every possible object in Act 3
In Act 3, travel to the museum and take a left down the isle to the buffet table. Examine the pile of corn dogs, and Sammunmak will banish a camera. From there, you need to use the Rhinoplasty to transform Max's brain into three other items, then examine the corn dog pile again to have Sammunmak banish the item Max has become. The items and their locations are as follows:
  • Storm Cloud: Use the Rhinoplasty on the green "big news!" display in the Gift Vault
  • Credit Card: Use the Rhinoplasty on the credit card sign next to Stinky's diner on Straight & Narrow
  • Toaster: Use the Rhinoplasty on the toaster sign in the shop window in the "Frankie the Rat" area
You will lose your chance for this trophy once you proceed to Act 4.

Drop a Dime
Teleport to every phone in the museum
In Act 2, you will first have to find a brain to put in Max's body. After that, you will need to examine one of the three courtesy phones in the museum in order to obtain the phone numbers so that you may teleport. There are two in the main area of the museum: one by the information desk in the bottom right corner, and one next to the door to the planetarium. There is a third phone in the Egypt exhibit next to the exit. After you have the numbers, simply teleport all four locations and the trophy will unlock.
You will lose your chance for this trophy once you proceed to Act 3.

Rhinoplastastic
Turned into every possible object
This requires you to use the Rhinoplasty to transform into seven different items between Acts 2 and 3. There are four items in Act 2, and three items in Act 3. The items and their locations are as follows:
Act 2
  • Skull: - In the main room of the museum, next to Sal
  • Hindenburg: - In the main room of the museum, on the right side of the room among the stairs
  • Pyramid: - In the Egypt exhibit of the museum, on the wall next to the brain jar
  • City: - In the office of the museum, on the desk
Act 3
  • Credit Card: Use the Rhinoplasty on the credit card sign next to Stinky's diner on Straight & Narrow
  • Storm Cloud: Use the Rhinoplasty on the green "big news!" display in the Gift Vault
  • Toaster: Use the Rhinoplasty on the toaster sign in the shop window in the "Frankie the Rat" area
If you miss any of the items in either chapter, you will lose your chance at this trophy.

Use Rhinoplasty with big news!
Back

Use Rhinoplasty with credit card sign
Back, then use Teleportation to travel to C.O.P.S. (If you exited the Museum by teleporting instead of walking out and picking a location on the map, teleporting to C.O.P.S. will take you right inside the Museum. If not, it will return you to the DeSoto, in which case you should drive to the Museum and then leave the DeSoto there for the remainder of the Act)

, use Rhinoplasty
Use Rhinoplasty modeling clay {Rhinoplastastic 6/7}
Walk to the left down the isle towards the buffet table again. When you get close enough for the option to appear:
Admire corn dog pyramid {Tweenage Angst 3/4}
, use Teleportation to travel to Frankie the Rat

, use Rhinoplasty
Use Rhinoplasty with toaster ad
Back, then select Future Vision
Use Future Vision with Rats: Here, you will need to take note of what the rats say, as it is randomly generated from bet to bet. The first rat will mention what body part Skun-ka'pe did not use, the second rat will mention a type of move he did not use, and the third will flat out name a move that was not used. What I got for my playthrough to write this guide was "Use your stinkin' hands", "I thought for sure he'd use one of those Simian moves", and "No Thigh Squeeze?"
Back
to return to Sam
Talk to rats
Rats Dialog - Gambling
Rats Dialog - Place a bet
Rats Dialog - This is where you will need what you noted when you used Future Vision on the rats to determine what move Skun-ka'pe will use so you can win the bet. There are six different finishing moves, and they are as follows:
  • Simian Scissor Kick
  • Space Ape Kidney Punch
  • Gorilla Thigh Squeeze
  • Simian Sucker Punch
  • Gorilla Girly Slap
  • Great Ape Leg Sweep
What the first rat mentioned you will let you know if Skun-ka'pe attacked with his arms or legs, which will knock three of the six moves off your list of possible choices. The second rat will have mentioned part of the name of a move, which will knock the list down to two possible moves. The third rat will have mentioned a move directly by name that was not used, leaving you with the correct move to bet on. That last move is what you should select on this dialog wheel. Using my examples from above, the correct move for me to choose would be the Great Ape Leg Sweep. Should you choose the incorrect move and lose the bet, you will have to try again from the point where you used Future Sight on the rats.
, use Teleportation to travel to C.O.P.S.

, use Rhinoplasty
Use Rhinoplasty modeling clay {Rhinoplastastic 7/7 Trophy Unlocked!}
Walk to the left down the isle towards the buffet table again. When you get close enough for the option to appear:
Admire corn dog pyramid {Tweenage Angst 4/4 Trophy Unlocked!}
Walk back down the isle, and then continue down the isle to the right
Look at console
Press toaster button
, use Teleportation to travel to Gift Vault

, use Rhinoplasty
Use Rhinoplasty modeling clay
Talk to Sal
Sal Dialog - Gift
Sal Dialog - Toaster
, use Teleportation to travel to C.O.P.S.

Walk to the right, then keep walking towards the "Inner Circle Members Only" sign. After a brief cutscene, keep walking along this path until you can highlight Sammun-Mak
Use items with Sammun-Mak -> Use brain screw with Sammun-Mak {All Hail Sammun-Mak Trophy Unlocked!}

Act 4
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Max

Use Future Vision
Use Future Vision with General Skun-ka'pe
to return to Sam

Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Taunt
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Age Taunt
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Taunt
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Mole Man Taunt
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Taunt
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Getting Dumped Taunt
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Attack
Skun-ka'pe Dialog - Finish him! (there are five of them, pick whichever you like)

Sammun-Mak Dialog - Max
Sammun-Mak Dialog - Kneel
Sammun-Mak Dialog - Salute {Reunited (And it Feels So Good) Trophy Unlocked!}

*sigh* Okay, I can't believe it's already 3:30 AM. Anyway, I'm fairly confident that the trophy guide part is solid, but I'm worried that maybe the walkthrough part is either too confusing or not detailed enough or who knows.

So yeah, if you have any feedback about it, please share it so I can get a sense of what, if anything, needs to be improved and start thinking about how I would do so.

As for the road map... It can wait until after I get some sleep. Hardly need one anyway, same standard "try to play without a guide first and then play again if you miss anything" adventure game fare.

I'm going to attempt this following your guide, so you can get some feedback. Seems not a lot of people discuss these games, which is a shame, because they're awesome.

I played through this on my own using an alt account, and followed your guide for my main account. It took an hour and a half, even with a little playing around of my own. Your guide brought me to 100% completion on a single play through with no breaks or reloading of saved files. I'd say that's an AWESOME guide... Very good job, you should do this for the whole season!

Awesome, so it's helping then? Nice.

As for the rest of the season, I still haven't pinned down the two references trophies for episode 1, so I couldn't write an accurate, no nonsense guide for that like I did here. And episode 2 already has a good guide done. Thanks though.
