Gold Trophy Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Episode 2 Road Map, Trophy Guide and Walkthrough

This guide is intended for use on PS3Trophies.org only. You may not copy this guide and post it elsewhere, regardless of if you try to pass it off as your own work or give me credit. Changing the wording slightly to try to pass it off as your own work is also forbidden.

If you still have any questions to ask about this game and its trophies, or just want to say thanks, feel free to create an account and say hi. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, and there are plenty of other great guides for other games written by others who will be happy to help you get your trophies.

Overview:
- Estimated trophy difficulty: 3.5/10 Difficulty Rating Thread
- Offline: 12 (7, 4, 1)
- Online: 0
- Approximate amount of time to 100%: 1-10 hours
- Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1
- Number of missable trophies: 4
- Glitched trophies: none
- Does difficulty affect trophies?: N/A
- Do cheat codes disable trophies?: N/A

Introduction: Moai Better Blues is your standard point-and-click adventure game: you'll explore various locations looking for clues and items, talk to various people, and solve puzzles to advance in the game. And as a Sam & Max title, it's full of all the great humor, interesting characters, and crazy plot twists you would expect from the franchise.

The 3/10 difficulty rating comes solely from the BAGPIPE OBLITERATION ULTIMATE! trophy. There are 7 decals you need to collect for it in a driving minigame. Three are based on clearing increasingly difficult challenges, with the final challenge being the most difficult one seen in this series so far, and four are based on running over or shooting various items that randomly spawn during the driving segment. Obtaining all seven will require both skill and patience.

The four missable trophies are Sandwich Seller, BAGPIPE OBLITERATION ULTIMATE!, Kids Say the Darndest Things, and Hail to the High Priest!. As you progress through the game, events will take place that can change things in the game world and make these trophies no longer possible to get in your current playthrough. Check the guide for information about when you can first get them and when your chance to get them has been lost.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If at any time Sam won't do one of the steps outlined in this guide or walkthrough, reposition him in the environment and try it again. The instructions here are accurate, but sometimes the game gets a bit wonky and changes the selected object while Sam walks, which results in him trying to do something other than you intended.

Step 1: Simply play the game. Reaching the end of the game will net you 8/12 trophies just for story completion, and if you manage to get all of the missable trophies as well, you can complete the entire game in this playthrough. Refer to the guide or the walkthrough if you get stuck.

Step 2: If you missed any of the four missable trophies in your first playthrough, start a new game to mop up.

Freelance Police Work Is Never Done
Save Sybil from the giant Bermuda Triangle. Well, at least make a good attempt.

After the game starts, head into Bosco's Inconvenience and ask Bosco about how to stop and talk to the triangle. Then go to Stinky's Diner and take the stop sign from the back wall. Go back outside and use the stop sign with the triangle to save Sybil. It helps if you go all the way down the left side of the street until you're in front of Sam & Max's office.

Let's make some music!
Help Baby Glenn Miller create his latest hit song.

Baby Glenn Miller is located at the far left of the Tiny Tiki area. There are two steps to helping him create the song. First, take the Tiki Glass from the Tiny Tiki bar. Use the glass with the water dispenser, then take the glass full of water and use it with the tea kettle to pour it in. Then go back to the dispensers and this time take a glass of Paci-Fire. Use the Paci-Fire with the small fire underneath the tea kettle. This will cause the flames to burn much larger and hotter, and will make the tea kettle whistle, giving Glenn Miller an idea for his song. While you're hear, pick up the mallet that's lying on the ground near Glenn Miller's instruments.

For the second part, you need to hop back through the triangle so you can return to Straight Street and then head to the Pimp Le Car garage. Ask the COPS about their latest game and tell them you want to play. You must now play another driving mini-game. This time your objective is to drive over bagpipes while avoiding accordions. This challenge is fairly simple though, as all the accordions are on the sidewalks, making them easily avoidable. Simply use to steer the DeSoto into the bagpipes on the road. When you successfully complete the mini-game, the COPS will install a new horn onto the DeSoto which Sam will immediately remove and place in his inventory. Take the horn back to Glenn Miller and play it for him (wait until he's not standing behind the bongo, as the selection cursor tends to not want to select him when he's behind the bongo). He'll now be able to create his song, and he'll give you a copy of it on a conch shell. The trophy will also unlock at this time.

Unionized
Help Sam become a unionized waiter and pass the "Wipeout" entrance exam.

First, you'll need to examine the ancient hidden underground cave (there's a giant neon sign above it) on Easter Island to make Baby Hoffa come out. You'll also need to get the Tiki Glass from the bar at the Tiny Tiki. Once you have done both of those things, fill the Tiki Glass with any drink you want and use it with Hoffa. He will refuse to take it as Sam isn't a union member, and then give you a tray with a bottle on it and tell you to ride the bucking surfboard without dropping any bottles. Head over to the Tiny Tiki and use the tray with WIPEOUT!, the mechanical surfboard, to play a mini-game.

The objective of this mini-game is to stay on the surfboard without getting hit in the face with a flying bottle and to keep the bottle on your head from falling off the tray. Pushing to the left makes Sam lean forward, pushing it up makes Sam stand up straight, and pushing it to the right makes Sam lean to the right. The surfboard changes positions frequently, which changes what position keeps Sam's head level so that the bottle on his head doesn't fall off. You also need to dodge the flying bottles by leaning out of the way, but don't stay in those positions too long or you'll lose the bottle on your head. If you fail, select "Let's try that again". After you succeed, head back to Baby Hoffa and tell him you beat the bucking surfboard. He'll let you into the union and the trophy will unlock.

Anointed By the Feet
Have Max be anointed by the Feet.

This is one of three things you need to do to have Max declared the High Priest of the ocean chimps. Before you can even start that section of the game though, you must first fulfill the requirements of both the Let's make some music! and Unionized trophies. Refer to their guide sections if you haven't unlocked them yet. After you've done that, you need to get rid of the piranhas in the Fountain of Youth. Use either the Big Gun or Mallet on the blue gong to the right of the buried Moai head and on the yellow gong to the right of the Fountain of Youth. Next, take the conch shell that Glenn Miller gave you and use it with the female Moai head. The song will cause her to whistle. While she's still whistling, use your Big Gun to shoot the buried Moai head. This will cause him to become angry and he'll form a storm cloud over his head. If you did everything correctly, the whistling from the female Moai will blow the storm cloud through the triangle and over the Fountain of Youth, killing the piranhas. If you messed up, just use the conch shell with the female Moai again to make her whistle again so you can have another shot.

Once the fountain is clear, use the Tiki Glass with it to get a glass of the fountain of youth water. To make sure you don't miss the Kids Say the Darndest Things trophy, use the water on Max first to turn Sam and Max into kids, and be sure you talk to both Sybil and Baby Hoffa before continuing. Also, offer Baby Hoffa the granite sandwich if you haven't yet already to ensure that you don't miss Sandwich Seller. See either trophy for more details if needed. Once you're ready, get another glass of Fountain of Youth Water and give it to Baby Hoffa. After drinking it, he will no longer block you access to the cave and you may enter it to finally start on the quest to make Max the High Priest.

Once you can enter the cave, you'll need to head back outside and use the Big Gun or Mallet on the blue gong in between the female Moai head and the grumpy male Moai head. Then reenter the cave and use the Mallet on the yellow gong (you cannot use your Big Gun underwater, so if you don't have the mallet yet, go get it from Glenn Miller at the Tiny Tiki; it's sitting on the ground to the right of his pile of instruments). With both triangles in place, talk to the ocean chimps and tell them that the feet will now anoint Max. Once Max is on the stone altar, use the conch shell with the triangle. If done correctly, the feet will begin moving and the trophy will unlock.

The Image of Max
Make the image of Max appear in the underground cave.

See Anointed By the Feet for details on how to begin the quest to make Max the High Priest.

In the underground cave, head all the way to the right of the screen. You will find a snail with a red puddle behind it. Pick up this snail and take it all the way back to Stinky's Diner. Use the snail with the gong on the back wall to splatter the gong with red snail ooze. Then use your big gun with the gong to make the big red triangle from the start of the game appear inside Stinky's Diner. Hop through the triangle and use the Tiki Glass to get another glass of Fountain of Youth Water. Hop back through the triangle again and use the youth water with Max in the Diner. Be sure to talk to Flint Paper for the Kids Say the Darndest Things first, and then talk to Stinky and ask for the special to have her give you a basalt sandwich. Hop through the triangle again to return to Easter Island.

Sam and Max will still be kids, so walk towards the entrance to the underground cave and then head left as if you were going to the Tiny Tiki to return Sam and Max to their normal age. Then head back over to the grumpy male Moai head and offer him the basalt sandwich you just got from Stinky. The Moai's mood will improve drastically, and almost everything will make him laugh. Pick any of the three dialog options you have and make sure he laughs at least once, then end your conversation with him and head back into the underground cave. Head towards the right and in between the stone alter and the yellow gong, you should now find a blueish stalactite on the ground. Pick it up and use it with the Maxish clam near the ocean chimps to make it look even more like Max and unlock the trophy.

Eureka! Banang!
Perform a miracle by turning water into Banang.

See Anointed By the Feet for details on how to begin the quest to make Max the High Priest. In order to ensure that you don't miss the Kids Say the Darndest Things trophy, you should complete the requirements of the The Image of Max trophy before this one. See either trophy for more information.

In the underground cave, head to the far left side of the section and use the radio in the crashed plane. Use the frequency switch until the frequency is set to 7175 kHz and you hear Bosco say "I know you're out there!". Then use the speaker and select "We are observing your earth." to scare Bosco away from his store. Use the power button to leave the radio, and then head back to Bosco's Inconvenience. Take a bottle of Banang from Bosco's store, and then return to the underground cave. Use the Banang with the ceremonial urn to turn the water into Banang and unlock the trophy.

High Priest Max
Make Max the High Priest of the ocean chimps.

After fulfilling the requirements for Anointed By the Feet, The Image of Max, and Eureka! Banang!, Max will be declared the High Priest of the ocean chimps, and this trophy will unlock during the cutscene that plays after unlocking the three stated trophies.

Moai Better Blues
Complete Episode 2 - Moai Better Blues

After Max has become the High Priest, use the big red emergency button at the top of the structure you're on. Then get in the pod to return to the bottom, and head to the right. Pick up the medallion from the ground and use it with the red puddle that the snail left behind. Take the Sock Crown that's there as well to get the Hail to the High Priest! trophy, and then head out of the cave.

In the background, you should be able to see the volcano and a yellow gong to the left of it. Shoot it with your big gun to make the yellow triangle appear there. Then go to the blue gong to the left of the no longer grumpy male Moai head and use the big gun or mallet with it to make the blue triangle appear there. Finally, use your snail ooze covered medallion with the triangle to complete the game and unlock the trophy.

Sandwich Seller
Offer the granite sandwich to everyone on the island.

MISSABLE! At the start of the game, head into Stinky's Diner and ask her about the special. It's a granite sandwich, so order one. After you save Sybil, you'll head to the island where there are seven character you need to offer the granite sandwich to:
  1. The cranky male Moai Head
  2. The female Moai Head
  3. The buried Moai Head
  4. Lincoln
  5. Baby Hoffa
  6. The Babies in front of the Tiny Tiki
  7. Baby Glenn Miller
The only character you need to immediately watch out for is Baby Hoffa. He'll become missable far before the other characters, so be sure offer him the granite sandwich before you get him to drink the Fountain of Youth Water. The rest of the characters needed for this trophy are available until you get the basalt sandwich, as the basalt sandwich will replace the granite sandwich in your inventory. Thus, be sure to offer the granite sandwich to the other six required characters before getting the basalt sandwich from Stinky.

BAGPIPE OBLITERATION ULTIMATE!
Receive all DeSoto decals in this episode by completing all levels of "Pimp Le Car Music Challenge" and all bonus decals.

MISSABLE! See the walkthrough for instructions on how to control the DeSoto. After you have obtained the car horn by completing the first challenge, there are 7 decals you must collect in order to unlock this trophy. Note that for the first four decals, you can press while driving to remove the VR goggles and drive around trying to get them without the COPS interrupting you frequently to inform you that you failed the challenge, but the last three require that you put the goggles back on.
  • Kitchen Sink: A kitchen sink will spawn at the top right side of the screen, fly across the screen towards the right with a downwards arc, then bounce off the road before disappearing off screen. It happens rather quickly, so you'll likely miss it a few times. Try to keep your cursor in the top right section of the screen to be ready to shoot it when it appears.
  • Safe: A safe will randomly spawn on the left side screen, hanging in front of the windows on the buildings you're driving past. Aim your gun at those windows and keep firing until the safe spawns to ensure you hit it. Keep your DeSoto's speed low so you'll have plenty of time to notice it, aim at it, and shoot it when it appears. If you're driving too fast, you'll just speed right past it and have to wait for it to spawn again.
  • Air Balloon: A giant orange air balloon with the TellTale Games logo will randomly spawn in the top right section of the sky and slowly move towards the left side of the screen before floating away. This one stays on screen for a much longer period of time than the blimp from episode one, so you should have no problem shooting it once it appears.
  • Tire: A black tire will randomly roll across the road, going from left to right. You can either run over it with the DeSoto or shoot it with the gun. Thankfully, it rolls across the road rather slowly, making it quite easy to either shoot or run over.
  • Bronze Bagpipe: Another challenge where you must drive over bagpipes while avoiding accordions. This one is somewhat harder than the one you played to get the car horn as the accordions will be in the road now rather than being only on the sidewalks. You must hit as many bagpipes as possible to keep your thermometer on the right side of the screen from emptying. Missing bagpipes and hitting accordions causes it to empty, and hitting bagpipes fills it back up. The bronze level challenge, while harder than the challenge for acquiring the horn, is still rather easy and should not be a problem.
  • Silver Bagpipe: Yet another bagpipe challenge, this one harder than the bronze level. It still shouldn't pose much of a problem, however. This decal will replace the Bronze Bagpipe decal.
  • Gold Bagpipe: The final bagpipe challenge. This one can be rather difficult as there are accordions right behind many of the bagpipes and it will take some skillful driving to avoid them. Try to clip the bagpipes with the corners of the DeSoto and then quickly steer away from the accordions. The pattern of bagpipe and accordion locations does not seem to change when you fail, so also do your best to memorize the layout so you can put yourself into better positions to hit bagpipes while dodging accordions. This decal will replace the Silver Bagpipe decal.
    A tip from Donkey-er: "I found that missing bagpipes got my bar down faster than hitting accordions. So what I did was make sure not to miss any bagpipes, even if that means you hit a lot of accordions. For example, if you hit 5 bagpipes and 3 accordions, BUT don't miss any bagpipes, you only go down about 1/4th or 1/5th. So if you manage to miss about half of the accordions, you can still hit a lot of them and still make it."

Note that the four random objects you need to find for the first four decals can take quite a long time to appear. Be prepared to do a lot of driving with absolutely nothing happening while you try to get these decals. You must obtain all seven before making Max the High Priest of the Ocean Chimps, as after you do that, you will be trapped on Easter Island for the rest of the game.

Kids Say the Darndest Things
As young Sam & Max, talk to every character possible.

MISSABLE! You will first need to clear the piranhas from the Fountain of Youth so that you can become young Sam & Max. See Anointed By the Feet for details on how to do this. Once the piranhas are gone, use the Tiki Glass with the fountain and then use the filled glass with Max to drink it and become young Sam & Max. There are eight characters you will need to talk to in order to unlock this trophy:
  1. The cranky male Moai Head
  2. The female Moai Head
  3. The buried Moai Head
  4. Sybil
  5. Lincoln
  6. Baby Hoffa
  7. Flint Paper
  8. Stinky
As soon as you can drink the Fountain of Youth water, you'll want to talk to Sybil and Baby Hoffa before doing anything else. Once you play Glenn Miller's song for the female Moai head, Sybil will leave the island the next time you enter the section of the island that she's on and be gone for the rest of the episode. And since you need to play the song to get the Fountain of Youth water, you'll want to talk to Sybil immediately. Baby Hoffa is your next concern, he will be gone for the rest of the episode once you gain access to the underground cave. Be sure to talk to him before you make him drink any Fountain of Youth water.

The final missable character you need to worry about is Flint Paper. He's in Stinky's Diner watching Bosco, and once you scare off Bosco with the radio, Flint Paper will also leave to follow Bosco and he'll be gone for the rest of the episode. Do not use the radio to scare away Bosco before talking to Flint! Follow the directions outlined in the The Image of Max trophy for how to get into Stinky's Diner as young Sam & Max.

Stinky cannot be missed as you must talk to her as young Sam & Max for story completion, and the three Moai heads and Lincoln will be on the island until you complete the game. Just be sure you talk to the four of them before finishing the game.

Hail to the High Priest!
Take the Crown of Socks and crown Max as the new high priest.

MISSABLE! After making Max the High Priest and unlocking the High Priest Max trophy, part of the cutscene you have to watch will show the Crown of Socks falling down and landing near the puddle of red snail ooze you encountered earlier. Head down there and take the Crown of Socks to unlock this trophy. If you miss the Crown of Socks and complete the game, but have not started any new games yet, you can load the most recent auto-save the game created, head back inside the underground cave, and get it. Otherwise you will have to replay the episode.

& - Use to cycle through selectable objects and people in the game world.
& - Use to display all possible selectable objects and people in the game world.
- Pauses the game, and allows you to Save, Load, or change game options if used outside of a cutscene.
& - Use to change between having Sam say something or Max say something when both characters are available in the dialog selection box.

Driving DeSoto
Steer
Decrease speed (only works with VR goggles off)
Increase speed (only works with VR goggles off)
Honk horn
Use Big Gun
Remove VR goggles/Put VR goggles on
Return to Straight Street

Using Big Gun (Either on foot or in the DeSoto)
- Aim
- Shoot
- Put away Big Gun

IMPORTANT NOTE: If at any time Sam won't do one of the steps outlined in this walkthrough, reposition him and try it again. The instructions here are accurate, but sometimes the game gets a bit wonky and changes the selected object while Sam walks, which results in him doing something you didn't want.

PART 1 - Save Sybil!
Straight Street

Enter BOSCO'S INCONVENIENCE

Bosco's Inconvenience
Sam - How do we stop the triangle?
Sam - How do we talk to the triangle?
Sam - So long.
Use EXIT DOOR

Straight Street
Enter STINKY'S DINER

Stinky's Diner
Talk to STINKY
Sam - What's the special?
Sam - We're ready to order.
Sam - Give us the special.
Sam - Never mind.
Sam - So long.
Take STOP SIGN from the back wall near Flint Paper
Use EXIT DOOR

Straight Street
Use STOP SIGN with TRIANGLE (Stand in front of Sam & Max's building and wait for the triangle to pass by so you can select it) {"Freelance Police Work Is Never Done" Trophy Unlocked!}

PART 2 - Get into the ancient cave.
Easter Island

Sam - What's the prophecy?
Sam - What do you want us to do?
Sam - We'll take the case!
Sam - So long.
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with male MOAI HEAD {"Sandwich Seller" 1/7}
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with female MOAI HEAD {"Sandwich Seller" 2/7}
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with buried MOAI HEAD {"Sandwich Seller" 3/7}
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with LINCOLN {"Sandwich Seller" 4/7}
Examine ANCIENT HIDDEN UNDERGROUND CAVE (it's not actually labeled by the in-game cursor for some reason, but the giant neon sign above it should make it quite obvious)
Sam - So long.
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with BABY HOFFA {"Sandwich Seller" 5/7}
Go to TINY TIKI (Once again, this isn't labeled. It's a path just to the left of the cave, and there's a sign pointing towards the path as well).

Tiny Tiki
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with BABIES {"Sandwich Seller" 6/7}
Use GRANITE SANDWICH with BABY GLENN MILLER (this is easier if you wait until he's not standing behind the bongo) {"Sandwich Seller" 7/7 Trophy Unlocked!}
Take TIKI GLASS from the bar
Use TIKI GLASS with WATER DISPENSER
Use WATER with TEA KETTLE
Use TIKI GLASS with PACI-FIRE DISPENSER
Use "PACI-FIRE" with FIRE!
Use TIKI GLASS with DIAPER RASH DISPENSER
Take MALLET
Go to EASTER ISLAND (Yet again, not labeled. It's at the very right of this screen, and the blue checkmark cursor will be over a big rock.)

Easter Island
Use "DIAPER RASH" with BABY HOFFA
Enter PORTAL TRIANGLE

Straight Street
Examine GARAGE
Sam - Tell us about your new game.
Sam - Can we play your game?
Sam - Let's do it!

Pimp Le Car Music Challenge
Once again, this part of the challenge is rather simple. Use to steer the DeSoto into the bagpipes. The DeSoto is set at a slow speed and there are no accordions in your path to worry about right now (there are some on the sidewalks though, so stay off the sidewalks). Run over all of the bagpipes to win the car horn.

Straight Street
Use DESOTO
Sam - Let's just drive around.

Pimp Le Car Music Challenge
This will be more difficult than before. Your goal once again is to obtain the 7 decals for your car to unlock the BAGPIPE OBLITERATION ULTIMATE! trophy. Please refer to the trophy guide for more details, and don't forget to press to put your VR goggles back on and run over more bagpipes after finding the 4 random objects. Once you get them all, the COPS will inform you of this and give your car one final upgrade: a hula dancer for your dashboard. And of course, {"BAGPIPE OBLITERATION ULTIMATE!" Trophy Unlocked!}

Straight Street
Enter TRIANGLE

Easter Island
Go to TINY TIKI

Tiny Tiki
Use DESOTO HORN with BABY GLENN MILLER {"Let's make some music!" Trophy Unlocked!}
Use WAITRESS' TRAY with WIPEOUT!
- The objective of this mini-game is to stay on the surfboard without getting hit in the face with a flying bottle and to keep the bottle on your head from falling off the tray. -

Thumbs up

There we go, episode 2 walkthrough. Like I mentioned in my Episode 1 thread, I wasn't quite sure that constantly writing " Examine" was needed as it's really the only button other than that gets used. So I tried it the way I was thinking of then instead. Be sure to let me know what you guys think about this compared to episode 1 so I can decide what format to use for episodes 3, 4, and 5. Is this easier to use, harder, about the same? Or any other feedback you have about the walkthroughs, please share.

Great job once again mjc! Thanks a lot!
In my opinion there is no need for including the X and square buttons on the walkthrough. It is self explanatory and it also saves you some work!
Keep up the good work!!!!

Thanks again for the guide.

Doesn't really matter which format you use. Both worked great for me

personaly I've always like the images for the buttons, but not having played this older season I can't be sure. seeing as you only use 2 buttons and the analog stick it might not be nessasery...

Thanks for the guide! I'll start Ep. 2 today and patiently wait for your Episode 3 guide.

Soooo, are the decals on Episode 2 as annoying as the ones in Ep. 1? If so I'll just make a save before not-attempting them and move on with all other trophies.
