Well, the main thing that sets it apart from the metroid-vania genre is that there is no backtracking or exploration to speak of. It's very linear. BUT it is a great game and definitely has a Metroid vibe. I say everyone should buy it.

Worth the price and even better with the PS+ discount starting today.
As zer0 sp said, there's no backtracking so that does set it appart from the "Metroidvania" games. As long as you search EVERYWHERE on each room you should be on the safe side trophy-wise. |

This game has nothing that reminds me of Metroid or Castlevania, aside from its 2D presentation. It's straight-up linear with minimal exploration, there's almost no backtracking to use new beams/items, and the quality/quantity upgrades (e.g., increasing bomb count, decreasing cool down time, etc) do little to change the gameplay, which means there's really no reason to search for them.
I just wasn't as entralled with this game as all the reviews led me to think I would be. Kinda boring and half-baked, with only a few clever puzzles. Oh god, and the obnoxious videogame box physics return. ![]() At least I saved a few bucks with PS+! |
