i've just remembered something about the install/delete that may be a possible cause, it's to do with the patch, i was in a discussion about patches in tech centre ages ago and it was genarally agreed that patches should really be installed only After the game data is, as patches, obviously are meant to fix problems with game code etc but 'some' can't fix it if the game is installed afterward, it sorta made sense to me but i'm no tech expert, though every time i insert a new game now i Allways decline the patch untill the games installed... don't think it does no harm, and allways best to be on catious/safe side when it comes to possible game spoilers....

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier. So I turned R3 on, installed and then everything froze on "installing trophy data." I had to shut off my ps3, turned it back on started up R3 again...... black screen. So I went to delete the game data so I could re-install it. After waiting 25min or so, frustated with the whole thing, and telling myself there's no way it could take this long to delete an install I shut down my ps3 again. My file is now corrupted. I was able to turn on R3 again (this time skipping the update) and it installed no problem. I was able to start my campaign up, but I was def freaking out for a little while.

So I should be able to delete the corrupted file?

i thought it's common knowledge to always install the game first, boot again and then install any patches. many games have problems otherwise.

edit: you can delete corrupted files no problem!

First time, I've ever heard it. I've downloaded patches for literally ALL games in my gamercard with mandatory installs before the actual installations, and never ever had a problem, not even Resistance 3.

I only encountered the corrupted data error because I tried deleting the game data since I missed some trophy videos I was recording.

Same here and some games e.g. Gran Turismo 5, installing the game 1st and patches 2nd will actually corrupt your install.

of course it can work the other way around.

the patch fixes things in the main installation, so it's only logical to install that first. but i have done it differently, too. never had problems either.

Thank god I'm reading all these topics across the web about corrupted data and install/removals of 30 minutes to an hour. I rented this game, did not like it much, and decided to remove it while I was cleaning up my HDD from games I had not intent on playing anymore, and I've been staring at this "whopping" 3 gig file deletion taking me the better part of 20 minutes now doing absolutely nothing (for references sake, Bioshock was about 4.5 gig, and that took a mere instant and press of a button... this takes forever just to count how much space it's using). At first I thought it froze, so I restarted and boom -- corrupted data. But now that I realize it is doing something -- albeit in a slow as hell manner -- I feel a little bit better, although I'm pissed that it's going to take this long to remove.

I swear this game is trying to haunt me. The update froze when I first rented it, which caused corrupted data and having to redownload the patch, now this shit. I hate this game and just want it to go away.

EDIT: ... and finally done.... the headache is finally over.

Its amazing when a game is frustrating even after you return it to the store. I have to wake up in 5 hours and I'm not leaving my PS3 on overnight just because of R3. Uninstalling should take mere seconds, not longer than it takes to beat the game you're uninstalling.
