Road Map Overview:

- Estimated Difficulty:

The estimated difficulty specifically pertains to a number of different variables and factors including, but not limited to: Matchmaking (getting paired up with your partner), learning where the "sweet" spots are (boosting locations) and ultimately - the time it takes to achieve 10,000 kills. This number will vary on an individual basis as people begin boosting this trophy at different times and kill counts. For this guide, we will assume the boosters are starting off with 0 online competitive kills.

- Online Trophy: "Killing Machine"

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/17/031.jpgKilling Machinehttp://www.ps3trophies.org/images/site/icons/trophy_gold.png

Score 10,000 kills in ranked matches in Online Competitive Multiplayer.

- Approximate Time: 30-50 hours

The estimated time to complete will greatly vary depending on how much time each booster and their partner devotes to this trophy. However, for the purpose of this guide and our average kills per day (5 hours a day/1500 kills), we will use the aforementioned time as an guesstimate on how long you'll most likely be looking at.

- What's Required?

  • 2 PS3 Controllers.
  • The Resistance 2 "Aftermath" DLC Map Pack from the PSN Store ($5.99 and well worth the purchase price for the (P) trophy).
  • A dedicated boosting partner (or partners if you intend on boosting with multiple people).

Introduction:

Right, so Resistance 2 has been around a while (since November 4th, 2008 to be exact) and during all that time no one has bothered to post a visual aide to show players exactly where you boost on each of these 3 DLC maps. This information is critical to having more efficient boosting sessions in terms of saving time for both the player and his/her boosting partner. There's still a modest learning curve as far as getting the overall feel of how the boosting process works, but having this image guide available to you will reduce the trial and errors that most every player would otherwise experience.

Keep in mind that this guide was created with the boosting spots Olsen and I found during our own time boosting. That said, you and your partner may very well discover other sweet spots. That's perfectly fine. But until/unless you do, you're welcome to save yourself a lot of trouble and just use our locations in the mean time. But first, let's get a few important details and other game-related terms out of the way. These will be used through the guide and in images so familiarize yourself with them before beginning.

  • What is a "sweet" spot? A sweet spot refers to a very specific location on any given map in which your 2nd account characters will respawn in the same, or close to the same locations throughout the match. This is the key element in reaching upwards of 50-60 kills per match per player. The more you have to move your 2nd character the less kills you will receive.
  • P1 and P2: P1 refers to Player 1 and P2 refers to Player 2. All kill exchanges should happen against P2 accounts/characters and not the primary P1 account (main character). It's ideal not to spawn your P2 until both you and your boosting partner have arrived at the boosting location on each map. This will save a little bit of time (which ultimately adds up).
  • What is "line of sight"? Line of sight refers to an area on any given map in which there exists minimum obstructions so that both players and their P2's have a clear view of each other when at their respective boosting spots.
  • There is no "I" in "Teamwork": Remember this and be courteous to your boosting partner. If your P2 spawns out of reach of your partners P1, take one hand and move the :l3: of your 2nd controller until you know he/she can see your P2. Don't make each other have to juggle both controllers unnecessarily. The more you both cooperate with one another the more efficient the boosting process will go. This translates into a higher kill count per player per match.
  • Expect random spawns from time to time: This is more true with the "Pit Stop" and "Outpost" DLC Maps than "Aftermath". On the "Aftermath" map, spawns are extremely consistent if you find the right boosting spot, and in this case, our boosting spot. In most cases you will only need to press :l1: to aim and :r1: to shoot while on this map. However from time to time, P2's will spawn somewhere completely random on all 3 maps. Try not to get frustrated and just incorporate this expectation into the boosting sessions.

Walkthrough:

After you've downloaded the "Aftermath" DLC Map Pack from the PSN Store, begin finding a boosting partner (if you haven't already). Both players should have the same degree of dedication to invest into this endeavor to help both players out in the long run. Keep in mind though that not everyone can spend the same amount of time online playing games so be courteous and flexible in scheduling.

It's a good idea to 'meet' up with your boosting friend via an external social networking site/service (ie; MSN, Yahoo, AIM, facebook, headsets etc) so you can chat live and in real time. Once you've done so, it's time to begin boosting. Log onto the game and make sure all available updates and patches have been downloaded. Click "Competitive" and then "Equipment" to make sure both your Human and Chimera Loadouts say "Fareye" and "Prototype". This is a MUST!

After you both are squared away on your gear then it's time to coodinate getting paired up in the Ranked Matchmaking. Press "Competitive" then "Play" and then make sure you set the options according to the image below before clicking "Start Matchmaking".

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss65/YoshiGirl/SagesPics327-1.jpg

Once you have your settings correct then try to initiate the matchmaking process around the same time. This will increase your chances of being paired up with just your boosting partner. But keep in mind that you will most likely have some occassions where you get placed in other boosters lobbies, or some random player will somehow join your lobby and cause the game to be scrubbed. If this begins to happen too much then you both just quit out, wait about a minute then begin the matchmaking process again until it's just you two in the lobby.

Remember that there will be a little trial and error in getting comfortable with the boosting process itself. Finding the locations in our guide will take a few minutes and streamlining the kills will most likely take several matches before things begin to run smoothly. Don't expect to get 50-60 your first few matches, be patient and make sure you're contributing to a pleasant experience for your partner.

Also keep in mind that random spawning will happen until you find the spots/locations in this guide, but even then there will be sporadic P2 spawning from time to time. Just bear with it and move your P2's so that each other's P1's can get the kills. It only takes a few seconds to adjust a bad spawn so don't get too frustrated about it.

  • Headshots Only! This isn't Killzone where a single sniper round can kill you even if shot in the foot. Save ammo and go for headshots only. They're worth 1000 XP each so that can exponentially compound your overall score at the end of the match.

  • Respawn Invincibility: Whenever your P2 respawns there's a 3-4 second invulnerability window where ammo is ineffective. Try to conserve ammo by counting the seconds if you have to. Too many wasted shots and even Prototype wont help you keep from running out of ammo.

  • Respawn P2's ASAP: To make the most efficient use of time for both players, press

:cross: to respawn both your P2's once the timer goes down. This will keep the kills coming and the pace nice and steady.

  • Average Kills Per Match: Your average kills per match per player will be around 45-65 depending on the map, how fast you both get set up, random stray P2 spawns and so on. It is however possible to get up to 85+ kills per match per player on the Aftermath map, and possibly more kills than the estimated current average on the other 2 maps with a bit of luck. See the Community Tips & Strategies section below for details.

Miscellaneous Information:

  • While striving for the "Killing Machine" trophy you will rank/level up very quickly. The speed at which you do will be determined by your current rank at the time the boosting begins.

  • While boosting you will aquire the following ribbons multiple times: Quick and Painless (Score 3 headshot kills in a row), Sweet Dreams (Execute an enemy with a headshot), No One is Safe (Score 10 sniper headshots without dying), Sure Shot (Have an accuracy of 50% or greater for a match), Quick Draw (this ribbon is based on who gets the 1st kill of any given match) and Because I Love You (Kill the same player 10 times within the same match)

The "Fareye" Sniper Rifle and "Prototype" Berzerk:

The Fareye is your weapon of choice and using Prototype is essential in order to keep from running out of ammo during each match. It will roughly take 7-8 kills to completely fill the Berzerk meter, however don't use it until you get down to 6 rounds left. This is so you replenish more ammo per ability usage then if you otherwise would have wasted it when not really in need. To activate your Berzerk, press

 on the D-Pad.

"Aftermath" Map Overview:

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss65/YoshiGirl/SagesPics324-1.jpg

This map is the best of the 3 as far as we're concerned. Although it's quite random which DLC maps you'll play on from match to match, you should be thankful whenever "Aftermath" comes up. It's by far the easiest to get upwards of 60+ kills here than the other 2 maps, and the P2 respawns are nearly perfect once both P1's get their placements down pat.

The actual boosting locations is in the corner where the Theater and Barber Shop is. See the following images for the walkthrough.

"Pit Stop" Map Overview:

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss65/YoshiGirl/SagesPics325-1.jpg

The "Pit Stop" map is the 2nd easiest to boost out of the 3. You may find possibly better spots to boost but if not, use ours. We found a pretty consistent location for both players however it should be noted that there's usually a little bit of P2 moving to get them into position. What this means is the spawn of your P2 is directly related to where your P1 is. With our method here it will be necessary to move each other's P2's a little bit so that they're in position for one another's P1's. It's really easy and takes only a few seconds.

"Outpost" Map Overview:

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss65/YoshiGirl/SagesPics326-1.jpg

In our opinions, the Outpost map is the most complicated to initially get set up in. Finding the boosting spots will take a little trial and error, but I doubt you'll spend more than a few matches doing so. This is also a map where random P2 respawning is expected and players on both sides will have to definately move their respective P2's around so that one another's P1's have a clear line of sight. In most cases it's really not that bad once you play around with the actual spots of the P1's, but figuring out the specifics may take a few rounds. The overall location to boost however will be outlined below.

Overview:

Welcome to the Resistance 2 "Killing Machine" Community Tips & Strategies thread (yeah, that was a mouthful). Here you'll find boosting strategies, videos and other relevant information provided by our very own members of the community. We encourage you to post with your own personal experiences in boosting for this trophy. The only requirements in getting your information added here is:

  • Be thorough - If you aren't able to provide a video(s) then make sure your explanation is clearly legible, descriptive and makes sense to the reader.
  • Post only proven strategies that personally worked, and worked well for you and your boosting partner(s). Don't post conjecture, heresay or rumors please.

  • Make sure you indicate which DLC map you're referring to (Aftermath, Outpost, Pit Stop or all 3).

And that's it! We're looking forward to hearing about your glory stories and awesome boosting tips that helped you succeed and overcome the infamous "Killing Machine" trophy.

Credit to GOLDFISHKILLER86 and Pure_Breed-1 for the following strategy:

We found this strategy to work best on Aftermath but you may have some luck pulling off their method on Outpost and Pit Stop as well. Basically, the idea is whenever you press

:cross: to respawn your P2's immediately press :r1: to fire a shot or two. This removes the 3-4 second invulnerability window mentioned in the guide. This allows both you and your boosting partner to get kills much quicker.

It might take at least a match or so to get comfortable with the extra step but once you practice it enough it's really easy to do. Make sure your P2's aren't equipped with a powerful weapon though (like the Fareye, etc). Sometimes the P2's respawn automatically facing the P1's and firing a few shots to remove the shields can kill the P1's on random occassions. But with weapons like the Carbine, a shot or two wont kill you, and you're usually healed by the time the next respawn comes around.

10,000 Kills Boosting Guide. Their efforts along with many others who contributed in that thread has served to help lots of people pair up with each other to aquire the Killing Machine trophy back when there simply wasn't a known way to boost in this game. Thank you.

And this boys and girls is how it's done, excellent job Yoshi! We should have more of these in games that require them because for some games figuring out how to boost in a game is just as hard as doing the task by yourself.

Here's the fun part, we're still not quite done yet. Yoshi has more images to add from the spots I was in yesterday and we're fine tuning our spawn points in Outpost. The praise is much appreciated though. :D

on aftermath there is a sweetspot on the roofs, me and a partner got 90 kills with the sweet spot and you don't have to wait to kill on the respawns and on outpost there is another spot. I'll post them tomorrow when I get the chance

baisicly the one the is getting kills should have one hand on the aim down button and never let it go (well we didn't because we got perfect sweet spots, respawns in the same exact locations no matter what) and the other switching from your second controller to your first controller, on the first controller it should only press the fire button. on the second controller it should press X (I don't know how to use the button icon) and then fire so that the magical invincibility disapears and makes it faster to shoot.

Thanks for the kudos, legndorock. Olsen and I got paired up easy enough aside from a few random lobbies we ended up in, but actually figuring out where to boost on the maps involved a lot of trial and error. We had planned ahead of time to do a much needed guide.

I didn't quite understand what you said but you're welcome to post your tips/strategies for any of the maps you had good successes on. If you write everything in a structured, organized and informative way I'll add it to the Community section I'm making tomorrow. Just don't post outlandish things that really aren't doable or true.

Thanks. :)

This is a really neat guide, but it would be awesome if you guys could put this wall of text in a video.

Thanks for your sarcasm. Send me some video-making equipment and I'll consider it.

[EDIT] Actually, can you recommend some quality equipment? I've wanted to make videos forever and it would help explain things more than a lengthy text guide would, or even images like I've made for this.

Great work Yoshi_Girl let me know if I can help currently playing myself. One question is this game hard to match up with diffferent regions? I have a partner but we can't seem to match up I'm US he's UK.

I've heard of players having trouble connecting to other players regions but I've also heard people are connecting just fine too, which is why I didn't include it in the guide.

I play all the time with different regions like you said with no problems. Perhaps it's maintenance and PSN is down, friends in Japan can't connect to play UC2 and I can't get into the PS store now.

Yeah PSN is down, which sucks! We're supposed to be playing right now again. The goal is 5000 kills by the end of the day. We got 2000 kills each yesterday if you can believe it.

And, yeah just buy a cheapo capture card, but if you want HD, just buy the HD-PVR.

baisicly if u find a spot were the second guy (dummy) spawns in the same exact spawn every time, when he spawns immediately shoot with him, it makes his magical shield disappear. however you may want to be careful cuz sometimes they spawn aiming directly at the guy killing them

and if u do add this give credit to GOLDFISHKILLER86

We tested this last night and it's a GREAT way to get extra kills, particularly on the Aftermath map (the other 2 maps.. not so much). It's obviously a little extra work but once you get the control pattern down it's simple. I'll be adding this to the guide. Thanks!

[EDIT] I forgot to mention just how many extra kills we got. We've been averaging 60+ kills on the Aftermath map but with this method we're now averaging 85+ kills. The reasons can be contributed to the consistent P2 respawns. Sometimes this is not the case with random spawns (it will happen from time to time). We more or less had trouble bothering with this method on Outpost and Pit Stop, though. It might have just been a wanky night but we had some annoying random spawn issues last night on those 2 maps. We still average around 50-55+ on Outpost and Pit Stop, though.

We're also on schedule to get 10,000 kills in a single week. I started with 216 online competitive kills this past Monday and today I'm at 4,483 kills.

why are you sucha beast at reading this guide, i already had the trophy years ago but for the new kids its really helpfull.

Thanks. That's really what this is about - helping those either new to Resistance 2 or seasoned veterans just looking for some closure on this game. We were able to complete the Killing Machine trophy in a week but it took some dedication to pull off. Well worth it though.

Yoshi & Olsen, thx 4 the guide guys!

Playing on Pit Stop with my bud Kalinho_PL we found points where you are able to avoid random spawns most of the time. Here it is:

http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2896&stc=1&d=1300519203

Your P2's gonna be next to the right back fender for reds and near the hill right behind the concrete block for the opposite team respectively.

Hope this helps))

We're unable to see your picture (or at least I'm not able to see it). It's showing up as a red x. Any way you could maybe fix it? I'm curious to see your image. :)

Thanks!
