I mostly agree with how some of the changes they've made to the controls aren't actually for the better. If you've just come from playing the first Prototype, this sequel is going to be pretty rough for you.

For me, I haven't played the first game in over two years, so it wasn't as noticeable. Sure, some of the flipped controls don't make too much sense when you think about it and some things are annoying during an intense fight (the locking and the jumping comes to mind, since locking on and jumping around while using the Whipfist was what got me through most of the first game)... but since the game itself has gotten a lot easier, it didn't frustrate me.

I'm not going to go into a big discussion on all the crappy things they did with the controls in this game.
I do however want to mention that dodge, which is the first thing I noticed. Why the hell did they make that stupid cinematic flip dodge? And you have almost no control over it. Hell if just a freaking citizen is near you, you will go into that slow motion flip dodge over them.

I'm fighting a brawler or a super soldier, I try to dodge his attack so I can then punish him, but no. Heller goes flying over some citizen and now I'm too far to attack the brawler, or Heller goes flipping over that brawler or a nearby one and I get freaking smacked for doing the flip when all I wanted to do was the simple dodge. It's ridiculously stupid they punish you for doing the flip, when it's on the same input as a normal dodge... 99% of my deaths in this game came from that crap.
After I got the shield, I said screw this idiotic dodging mechanic they have now. What moron came up with that idea?!

Another bad thing about that dumb flip dodge. I've died before because it does the flip, and I end up landing on some elevated object, which either stops the dodge early or gets me stuck.

Agree.

I've got other games on my plate, but of course I popped P2 in already just to check it out.

First thing I noticed was the air dash/glide switch. Second was the (lack of) charged jump.

P1 may have been a hit or miss game (how can people be so in love with Alex Mercer yet bash Cole McGrath for being too deadpan?), but it had a great rhythm to it's movement, especially once you unlocked all the mobility upgrades. P2 feels just plain awkward.

At first I hated the controls because they changed it so much from the first one. But after getting quite far into the game I actually like it. I have pretty much mastered the dodge mechanic, and the flying/air dash is just as easy to get used to. I do miss the charge jump though, but all you do now is hold x down longer to reach the peak of the jump.

If you hit the dodge prompt as soon as it pops on screen, 90% of the time you'll actually flip dodge the attack. Try any sooner and the enemies attack will follow you and you'll get hit no mater what. Use the "lock-on" and the fights become a breeze.

i definitely dont like how i cant spam short hop dash in this one; it especially effects how slowly you climb up buildings. the movement is a bit weird at first but of course you get used to it.
i liked the dodge, but once you get the shield i never used dodging again except on the maybe 2 fights that have a boss that can hit through it. honestly the shield is just OP as fuck. almost nothing can hit through it and once you get the spikes and you can just block counter your way to victory in every single fight.

I liked the changes, made it easier for me to move around.
But that's just me.
