Apologies if this is a dumb question. Would it be okay if someone started with the co-op game right away without playing single player?
I just finished the single player portion and was going to get a friend who has never played Portal before to do the co-op in splitscreen. Does the co-op require/build-on knowledge from the single player experience or does it introduce all the concepts all over again so a newbie can get right into it?

The co-op runs on indirectly from the single player. Although there are no direct spoilers to the single player as such, it is recommendable to play the single player and then the co-op afterwards, as there are subtle references in the co-op that you'll understand and your friend obviously won't

Cool, thanks. I got her to play the single player. She was hooked after the first chapter.
