Use Bendtner92's setup (below) and you should have no problems. I used the layout shown in the guide and I had difficulties. I ended up changing a few things to pretty much match what Bendtner92 shows unintentionally.

Pause it at 1:40.

I used this setup with some minor changes:
I replaced two of the Sunflowers with Cattails, so I didn't have to worry about Balloon guys. I pushed the Spikes up to the two front rows, and then added a Gloom Shroom row behind them. I also replaced the Gold Magnet with another Sunflower.

This setup got me to wave 40 easily. I didn't even need any Jalapenos, Cherry Bombs or anything. I only had to replace some Pumpkins and Spikes once in a while.

For me personally, this setup is much better than the one in the Guide.

Ok I just got this trophy but I really didn't want to use the cobs and have to keep clicking on them to launch them so i went for a cobless approach using gloomshrooms and winter melons.

The setup can be found here: http://s4.hubimg.com/u/1451239_f520.jpg

And it is pretty awesome but at wave 20 my PS3 crashed and I thought all was lost but luckily an autosave had it saved at wave 19.

Anyway, no real problems till wave 36 when Zombinas and Gargunturas came in waves like 5 of each and I had to use Cherry Bombs and Jalepenos galore....got to Wave 39 and somehow they managed to blow up some of my gloomshrooms thus my defences weakened and at the end of wave 39 I was rather depleted...no point in trying to rebuild so I loaded up with every explosive I could get and then started wave 40.....

By gum by the end of it I had NOTHING left but just survived and no more, start of wave 41 and I was dead within seconds...but trophy popped....perhaps I will retry with cobs to see if it is better...

I'm experimenting with different layouts and I'm curious - what do you guys do in the first few rounds? You don't really enough money to quickly build Gloom Shrooms, Winter-pults or Cob Cannons, and some of the basic weapons that lead to those advanced weapons aren't strong enough to take out enemies. Do you just put placeholders in and dig them up later?

I've used combination of tools to get me through the build phase, but don't think I'm optimized yet. What would you say your ideal layout looks like at the end of round 1? Round 2?

My setup is similar to this after the first flag:

Second flag and end of the round I had this:

Half way through round 2 should be like this:

End of round 2 I had this:

For your final setup I had this:

You should be able to build this up as quickly as flags 8 or 9.

really dumb question but how do you unlock endless mode? I only see puzzle, survival and co-op.

You have to finish Survival levels to unlock Endless Survival Mode.

I'm on this trophy. I thought it would be ok but failed as a noob on flag 13 ... Will use your strategies, hope to finish that game soon

I used this setup and got to 45 flags without problems, thanks for that!

btw the slow down of the game on later levels is ridiculous!!

Yeah, my PS3 actually froze on wave 38 and I was fuming, thankfully it autosaves the game at the start of each round!

Worse though is I just could not see where my cursor is or even what plants I was selecting!

yea, they definitely did a horrible job with game freezing. but a little persistence always pays off. i think mine started freezing around 36-37, but i just battled through it to get the trophy.
