How to kill diggers?

Im on Night (hard)

How do I kill those digging zombies in the red shirts and helmet? I know I can take em out with cherries and chilli, but im looking for a permanent solution.

Plant magnets (but not the updated version), they take their tools,and then the diggers come up.

you can either plant potato mines to simply blow them up (plant these early though, as they need a few seconds to arm themselves), or you can plant split pea shooters to shoot backwards at them. you could also try planting magnet shrooms which will pull them out of the ground, then let the rest of your defenses take care of them.

I used the upgraded purple dude that makes a face like a baby filling it's nappy, placed at the rear so it attacks before doing too much damage, I think I also used magnets as an additional barrier (but it was placed near the front so would take buckets and stuff too)
