A turn-based JRPG that was originally on PS2 with a mystery story to it. It also has dating sim elements to it as well and is from the same people who made Catherine(though Catherine wasn't a JRPG).
You basically go to school, walk around towns, the mall, etc. But the actual RPG gameplay is inside TV sets with walking around in a dungeon. The goal is to save the latest victim that gets dragged in before they get killed. The dungeons and even the boss of each month in the game refers to the victim's evil inner self. At midnight is when you can enter the dungeon for what is known as the "Dark Hour" that occurs on each night but with the Full Moon night being the boss battle Dark Hour night. You summon a Persona which does the more magical damage to enemies and collect them all. You can also help out those Personas by gaining Social Links by becoming friends with people and building the relationship no matter if it's love or just friendship. Between 2008-2011, this was 1 of the few games on PS2 I would say was well worth a purchase if you like JRPGs. There is a Persona 4 fighting game for PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Persona 3 FES can be purchased on the PSN Store and is kind of similar even though they're different stories. Or if you have a PSP, there's Persona 3 Portable which adds a female main character as well as already having the male main character. (Persona 3 and I believe Persona 4 as well do not have a name for the main character, so you make up the name for them). PS2 version for 2nd video Last edited by Shuffle; 06-21-2012 at 01:09 AM. |

Latest game within the Shin Megami Tensei series from Atlus, developers of 3D Dot Game Heroes, Catherine, and SMT series in general (such as Devil survivor on the ps2) which later advanced more into 'SMT: Persona'.
As Shuffle said, it is a turn-based jrpg-dungeon crawler. But the part Quote:
Either way, the game is why I bought a vita (even thought Ive completed it at least 3-4 times on the ps2) and so far the best game on vita is it!

I only mentioned that the nights of the Full Moon are the days where you save the inner selves of the latest victim. But since a Full Moon is only once a month, and you have each day of the year at your disposal to do whatever. That means on the Dark Hour, you can still enter inside the TV and do some leveling up just like in Persona 3 so that you can prepare for the boss battle. But however, your characters will be exhausted if you just keep trying to level them up each night, so some nights should either just sleep instead of entering inside the TV, or maybe study for your next exam at school, or whatever. |

^ my bad with 3DGH then
![]() And no, there are no full moons in P4, only Sunny/Rainy/Cloudy days on the ps2 version and Sunny/Cloudy/Rainy/Stormy. On stormy days more powerful shadows appear. Also, the party members (nor you) ever get tired, you can spend as much time as you want in a dungeon And there is no dark hour, you are either mixing games up or have not particularly played P4 much. And on nights you cannot enter the TV world, its only during the day. And you can save them whenever as well btw, can be the first day, can be the last, doesn't matter

For somebody who has little clue about the series, but is very interested in the game, how easy is it to get into the story. From what I've been able to see about this and previous games, it seems like there's a new story and cast for each game, so if I don't know a lot now, will it be easier to get into it?

Depending on how you define 'easy'. For me it took around 45mins first time playing to get hooked on the story and I knew nothing of P4 (having complete P2/SMT titles/P3/P3 FES) except for the battle system (slightly). So to answer your question - doesn't matter if you've played previous SMT games or not or whether you know the storyline, it wont make much of a difference as they're all different.

Persona 4's story takes place sometime after Persona 3, but with a new cast of characters that haven't been used in any Persona game.
But if you want, the PSN Store has Persona 3 FES for $10 or Persona 3 Portable if you have a PSP which may also be compatible to PS Vita. But it's not necessary to play it. Last edited by Shuffle; 09-27-2012 at 12:36 AM. |
