Tutorial No.40 Negative Penalty help

I did all of the other tutorials in lesson mode and No.40 seems so simple, I must be doing something obviously wrong. It reads:

"Try Backstepping and walking backwards, moving away from the opponent, for an extended amount of time. Punishment always awaits those without the will to fight...

So I did what I thought it was telling me to do, I've walked backward, I've backstepped, both for almost 5 minutes each :/ I feel like such an idiot.

edit: Yep, now I feel like more of an idiot, I just pressed

backstepping a few times and it worked.

Yeah, I'd have felt really embarrassed if I hadn't figured it out before someone commented. Guess it was all for the better since I found out that not just the

on my controller was broken.
