If you miss certain barrels are they locked off once you've past that area of the game or can you return to them at a later point?

You cant return, you need to play game again but only need to collect those that you missed

are you absolutely sure about this?can anyone confirm this?i just captured looten duke and i missed the 2nd one near the crane but i don't want to start over

There is a glitch that happens to a number of people with this trophy that causes it to count the number of barrels over multiple playthroughs. My first time on hard, I only picked up 2 barrels. On my easy runthrough, I used the guide to find their locations, and it popped once I picked up my 8th barrel in the Wolvark barracks. That means that if you only miss 1, you probably won't have to go too far to unlock the trophy.

Didn't work for me. I missed the first 2 on easy. Now I'm playing Hard and have already collected the first 2 I had missed and no trophy has popped. :/ oh well, at least I know all the locations now. : )

My first playthrough was on Normal. I finished the game, but hadn't been paying any attention to them barrels, broke the first one in the first town, and supposedly got another somewhere else. That might be because on my hard playthrough I've just got Free The Meat trophy on the 8th barrel. In between I had Mo Moolah and other collectibles run on easy, but quit after the trophy popped (it doesn't count this way, also I missed the 2nd barrel then). So it should be cumulative over playthroughs for me.
