Glitched Trophies?

It has come to my attention that a number of people have experienced glitched trophies with this game. I myself had no problem with any trophy unlocking. The only thing I can suggest is the following: save often, keep two or three different save files, and alternate your saves between them as you play. If you experience a glitched trophy, reload your closest save and try again. If that does not work, delete and reinstall the "NIER install data" on your Playstation 3, and then try again. Outside of this, I don't know what to suggest. Again, I had no problems with these trophies, but I've heard several reports otherwise. Good luck.

Introduction

NIER is a third-person action RPG. The game plays as a hack-n-slash, but all of your actions are governed by your character's statistics. During a few sequences of the game, the gameplay shifts to such styles as side-scrolling, top-down isometric, and even text-based. Such sequences are in the minority, however, and most of the game plays as a standard third-person action adventure.

The game revolves around the title character's quest to find a cure for his daughter's illness. Nier's daughter, Yohna, has a been infected with the Black Scrawl, a mysterious plague that has swept the land. Along the way he meets a number of allies, as well as foes. Eventually, other party members accompany Nier on his journey, although they are not directly controlled by the player (they can be given simple battle commands).

Combat consists of Nier using his weapons and magical abilities. Initially, Nier only has access to one-handed weapons, but eventually learns to use two-handed swords and spears. Nier learns magic throughout Part One of the game. Magical abilities can be mapped to the shoulder buttons of the player's choice. Most magic is used for offense, although some have defensive applications. Nier also has the ability to block, parry, and roll to dodge attacks.

When you complete the game, you will be given the option to make a post-game save. Loading this save file will allow you to begin the game again near the beginning of Part Two, retaining all of you previous items, experience, etc. from your previous playthrough(s) (a New Game+). You will have to do this a few times, as NIER has four different endings, each of which must be viewed to earn the Platinum trophy.

Road Map

Step One: Complete the game in under fifteen hours

Start the game on Easy. During the prologue, be sure to earn Combo Master by performing a 100-hit combo. Just keep spamming the attack button, and roll if you need to cover ground quickly to get to an enemy.

After the prologue, continue until you acquire Grimoire Weiss. Once you do, save your game. Earn The Sheep Whisperer trophy, then reload your save file. This will allow you to earn this missable trophy while not losing time toward the Lightspeed Fighter trophy.

Continue the game as normal. Complete both Parts One and Two. Complete the game in under fifteen hours to earn Lightspeed Fighter. Always follow the red X on your mini-map to stay on course. As long as you do not do any side-quests or extra activites, you may watch all the cutscenes and still have plenty of time to spare. Do not worry about any other trophies during this playthrough. After you complete the game and view all the credits, you will earn Call Her Back. Save your game when prompted.

Step Two: Start and complete a New Game+

Load your post-game save. You will be placed near the beginning of Part Two and will retain all your items, experience, etc. from your previous playthrough. When prompted, choose to view Kaine's memories to earn Educated Warrior.

Complete Part Two again. You will most likely earn all the timed-boss battle trophies during this playthrough. If you do not, don't worry. You will have another chance in your third playthrough. After you complete the game and view all the credits, you will earn Lingering Memories. Save your game when prompted.

Step Three: Start a New Game++ and earn the remaining trophies

Load your post-game save. You will be placed near the beginning of Part Two and will retain all your items, experience, etc. from your previous playthroughs. (You can skip Kaine's memories this time)

Be sure to complete the following side-quests and acquire the weapons associated with them (if you have not already):

Disturbing the Sleep of Kings (reward: Labyrinth's Song)

A Bridge in Peril (reward: Labyrinth's Whisper)

The Damaged Map (reward: Labyrinth's Stout)

The Magical Stone (reward: Iron Pipe, found behind bookshelves inside the derelict building).

This playthrough will require a whole lot of work, and will be where you spend most of your time in playing NIER. You must earn these remaining trophies:

The Collection and Upgrades trophies.

The Side-Quest and Activities trophies.

You must also complete the Boar Hunt! side-quest to earn All Aboarded!.

Note, you must acquire every weapon for the bonus boss battle at the end of the game to occur, which itself is required to view the third and fourth ending. Continue through Part Two until you reach the final save point, just before you use the Key to enter the Shadowlord's Castle. Save here and be sure not to save over this save file! Complete the game, including the bonus boss battle (where you should earn The Strongest Bond). When presented with the choice after this battle, choose the first option. View the third ending and the credits. You will earn Thank You.

Reload your save at the final save point. Complete the game, including the bonus boss battle. When presented with the choice after this battle, choose the second option. View the ending and the credits, and you will earn Something Very Special.

Good luck,

-Guts

Grimoire Weiss joined your party.

Part of the story progression. Impossible to miss.

[spoiler=1]When you reach the end of the Lost Shrine, you will come to a room with two large statues guarding an unconscious Yonah. Attack the "energy field" between the two statues until you trigger a cutscene. Weiss will join you at this point, and the trophy will unlock.

A number of players have had issues with the story-related trophies not appearing when they should. I myself had no problems with any of the trophies in NIER, but this comment is a warning that others have had issues. Please refer to the Glitched Trophies? section for more info.

Kaine joined your party.

Part of the story progression. Impossible to miss.

[spoiler=2]After you leave the two brothers at Junk Heap, you will return to the Aerie where you will face Hook for the second time. Kaine will help you in the battle. After you defeat Hook, go to the central platform to meet back up with Kaine. This will trigger a cutscene, after which Kaine will join you, and the trophy will unlock.

Emil joined your party.

Part of the story progression. Impossible to miss.

[spoiler=3]Shortly after the second half of the game begins, Popola will give you a letter from Emil, asking you to come see him. Go to the manor and speak with Emil. He will then join you, and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/05.jpg Release (B)

You freed Kaine from her petrification.

Part of the story progression. Impossible to miss.

[spoiler=4]After Nier and Emil return to the village to save Kaine, you will have to fight Jack the giant Shade for a third time. After you defeat him, there will be a short cutscene and some dialogue between the characters. The trophy will unlock when Nier awakes from sleep the next day.

Read the final novel segment.

Once you complete the game for the first time, you will be given the option to save after you view the ending and the credits. Do so, and then load this save. You will be treated to a description of many of Kaine's dreams. After reading through several of these, the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/18.jpg Call Her Back (S)

You viewed the first ending (Ending A).

Complete the game for the first time and view the ending. The trophy will unlock after the credits roll.

Also, there appears to be an issue with this trophy (and the other ending trophies) not unlocking after the credits. The game should display a message along the lines of "You can obtain ending B by loading this save", referring to your post-game save. When this message appears, do not press any buttons on your controller. Apparently if you don't wait a few seconds, and give the game a command, it skips over the trophy unlocking. Just give it a few seconds and you should be fine. Thanks to Rx78 for this tip.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/19.jpg Lingering Memories (S)

You viewed the second ending (Ending B).

Once you complete the game for the first time, you will be given the option to save after you view the ending and the credits. Do so, and then load this save. You will be placed back into the second half of the game, retaining all your weapons, items, and experience from your previous playthrough. Continue to play through the game until you complete it again, and then view the ending.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/20.jpg Thank You (G)

You viewed the third ending (Ending C).

Once you complete the game a second time, you will be given the option to save after you view the ending. Do so, and then load this save. You will be placed back into the second half of the game, retaining all your weapons, items, and experience from your previous playthroughs. During this playthrough, make sure you have acquired all the weapons in the game (and thus, unlocked Weapons Collector). This will enable an additional boss battle at the end of the game. Continue to play through the game until you reach the final save point, and save your game. Complete the game again, including the additional boss battle. At the end of this fight, you will be forced to choose between two options. Choose the first option, and view the ending. If you choose to save your progress, do not save over the file at the final save point.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/27.jpg Something Very Special (G)

You viewed the fourth ending (Ending D).

After you have viewed ending C (and thus, unlocked Thank You), reload your save file at the final save point. Complete the game again, including the additional boss battle. At the end of this fight, you will be forced to choose between two options. Choose the second option, and view the ending.

Important: By selecting the second option after the additional boss battle, all of your NIER saved game data will be erased. Be sure you have obtained all other trophies (with the possible exception of Lightspeed Fighter) before you choose this option. The game will inform you that your choice will erase all your saved data, and will ask you to confirm your decision four times. Again, all your saved data will be erased. You have been warned.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/10.jpg The Magic Man (B)

Learn every type of magic.

Part of the story progression. Impossible to miss. You will acquire all the different types of magic during the first half of the game.

[spoiler=7]You will have learned all types of magic once you learn "Dark Whirlwind", after you defeat Grimoire Rubrum in Emil's Manor. The trophy unlocks after the cutscene where Kaine reveals to Emil she is half Shade.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/11.jpg Wordsmith (B)

Collect 50 percent of all Words.

After you acquire Grimoire Weiss early in the game, you will begin to earn Words as you defeat certain enemies. Try to defeat as many enemies as you can as you progress through the game, especially enemies you have not encountered before.

If you are going for the Forging Master trophy, you will almost certainly unlock this trophy on the journey there. Once you have collected half of the Words available in the game, the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/16.jpg Man of Means (B)

Accumulate 1,000,000 pieces of gold.

This can be achieved over the course of the game. To earn this earlier rather than later, you can opt not to purchase weapons and upgrades from merchants. Once you have accumulated 1,000,000 gold (and thus unlocked this trophy), you can then blow it all on weapons and upgrades. While there are several ways to earn gold, the most effective way to acquire this trophy is by growing and selling White Moonflowers. See the Cultivating the White Moonflower and the Turning a Profit from the White Moonflower sections of this guide for more information.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/12.jpg Weapons Collector (S)

Find every weapon.

Weapons are either purchased from shops, received as quest rewards, or simply found in the environment. There are 30 total. No weapons are missable. While some of the weapons can be found in Part One in the environment, if you miss them then, they can be purchased in Part Two at various merchants.

Thanks to Raynair for this tip.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/24.jpg Material Hunter (B)

You collected 50 types of raw materials.

There are 95 different types of raw materials. You acquire a large number of them by defeating enemies, but you can also obtain materials through fishing, cultivation, completing side-quests, and simply purchasing them from merchants. You will almost certainly unlock this trophy through normal play. There are plenty of materials in the first half of the game alone.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/26.jpg Upgrade Apprentice (B)

You upgraded 5 weapons to their maximum level.

See Forging Master.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/28.jpg Reform Specialist (B)

You upgraded 15 weapons to their maximum level.

See Forging Master.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/31.jpg Forging Master (S)

You upgraded 30 weapons to their maximum level.

Each weapon has three possible upgrades associated with it. Upgrades can be performed at the Two Brothers Weaponry, which is located outside of the Junk Heap (take the north exit from Nier's village). Each upgrade costs 1000 gold, in addition to any raw materials required.

Due to the amount of materials needed to upgrade your weapons, I recommend you wait until your third playthrough before you begin to seriously material hunt. Many materials needed for upgrading are found in the Junk Heap, and you are required to travel through that area in Part Two twice. If you wait until your third playthrough, you will have all the materials from your first two games already, as opposed to upgrading in your first or second playthrough and then having to travel through the Junk Heap again later anyway.

Click here for an excellent guide on where to find all the materials you need. Thanks to the members of the NIER forum from the sister site for all the hard work on this list.

The farming process to acquire the necessary amounts of some of the raw materials needed can be a colossal trial of patience. Be prepared to spend several hours on individual materials alone. Patience and persistance are key here. I recommend watching a movie or listening to music while you attempt to collect everything. It will be a long road to the end.

When it comes to farming Eagle Eggs...

[spoiler=9] Be sure to collect all the Eagle Eggs you need on your third playthrough before the Aerie gets destroyed in Part Two. Otherwise, you will not be able to collect more until a subsequent playthrough, as they do not spawn anywhere else.

Thanks to Raynair for this tip.

Lastly, it has been confirmed that increasing the difficulty to Hard does increase material drop rates. However, changing the difficulty to Hard results in enemies that take longer to kill, so there is a trade off. I leave the decision to you. To do this, go to "Options" on the main menu of the game and change the difficulty. When you load your game save file, the difficulty will be adjusted.

Complete 30 quests.

Throughout the game, a number of side-quests are available to Nier. Completing these quests generally awards you with items, weapons, gold, materials, and other various rewards. As you progress through the game, occasionally side-quests will become available, usually after a significant event in the story. There are more than 30 side-quests in both Part One and Part Two, so do not worry about skipping the Part One quests on your way to earning Lightspeed Fighter.

For an excellent guide on all Part Two side-quests, click here. Thanks to Mwulf for the guide.

There are four side-quests that you must complete in order to unlock Weapons Collector, as the rewards for their completion include weapons found nowhere else, so plan on completing these. All four quests take place in Part Two. They are as follows:

Disturbing the Sleep of Kings (reward: Labyrinth's Song)

A Bridge in Peril (reward: Labyrinth's Whisper)

The Damaged Map (reward: Labyrinth's Stout)

The Magical Stone (reward: Iron Pipe, found behind bookshelves inside the derelict building)

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/21.jpg Legendary Gardener (B)

You successfully cultivated the legendary flower.

See the Cultivating the White Moonflower section.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/22.jpg Fish of Legend (B)

You caught a rhizodont.

See A Round by the Pond.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/23.jpg A Round by the Pond (S)

You caught one of every type of fish.

Early in the game, Nier gains the ability to fish. In order to fish, you need a fising rod, some form of bait, and a fishing spot. There are 15 total fish you must catch in order to earn this trophy. When you first acquire the ability to fish, Nier's skills are very limited. By completing The Fisherman's Gambit side-quests, you can increase your fishing level, making lower level fish easier to catch and also allowing you to catch rarer fish than before. Not only that, nine of the 15 fish are associated with those quests. It is highly recommended that you complete all nine The Fisherman's Gambit quests before attempting this trophy.

Any bait you need can be purchased from the tackle shop in Seafront.

Below you will find a list of all 15 fish, which bait to use to catch them, and where to fish in order to catch them. Note that Seafront has two areas to fish in: the area near the old man who gives you The Fisherman's Gambit quests, and the beach with the walrus looking animals on it near the lighthouse. These will be referred to as Seafront, pier and Seafront, beach, respectively.

Fish Name -- Bait Type -- Location

Shaman Fish -- Lure -- Seafront, beach

Sardine -- Lugworm -- Seafront, beach

Blowfish -- Lugworm -- Seafront, pier

Bream -- Lure -- Seafront, pier

Shark -- Sardine -- Seafront, pier

Blue Marlin -- Sardine -- Seafront, pier

Dunkeosteus -- Sardine -- Seafront, pier

Rainbow Trout -- Lure -- Northern plains, under bridge to Junk Heap

Carp -- Earthworm -- Nier's village, near waterwheel

Black Bass -- Lure -- Nier's village, near waterwheel

Giant Catfish -- Carp -- Eastern road (east of Nier's village), in the pond

Royal Fish -- Earthworm -- Eastern road (east of Nier's village), in the pond

Hyneria -- Sardine -- Desert, near the fast-travel boat

Sandfish -- Lure -- Desert, near the fast-travel boat

Rhizodont -- Sardine -- Desert, near the fast-travel boat

Note that some fish, specifically dunkeosteus and rhizodont, will be incredibly difficult to catch until you have completed all nine of The Fisherman's Gambit side-quests. Even then, the odds of them appearing are only between 10-20%, so it may take a few tries. Rest assured though, they are there. Good luck!

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/08.jpg Combo Fanatic (B)

Pull off a 50-hit combo.

See Combo Master.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/09.jpg Combo Master (S)

Pull off a 100-hit combo.

During the prologue, you will fight a number of Shades in a courtyard. Keep spamming the attack button, and you should have no problem building a 100 hit combo. Use the R2 roll manuever if you need to quickly cover ground to get to any enemy. The trophy unlocks immediately. Note that using magical attacks does not count towards your combo.

There are other places you can earn this trophy later in the game as well. Also, you can always start a New Game and just play through the prologue to earn this trophy if you miss it.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/30.jpg The Sheep Whisperer (B) (missable!)

You killed 100 sheep.

Simply kill 100 sheep over the course of the game. You can do this anytime after the Prologue. There are plenty of sheep in the fields immediately outside of Nier's village. I recommend waiting until after you acquire Grimoire Weiss to begin your hunt, as the Dark Blast magic attack is useful for one-shotting the sheep. You must earn this trophy before the end of Part One, unless you have the downloadable content.

If you do have the downloadable content, you can earn it in Part Two. During Part Two, take the north exit from Nier's village. Once you reach the end of the canyon and enter the main field, turn right and continue until you see an NPC. Talking to this NPC initiates a mini game where you ride a boar and try to ram and kill sheep. You can replay the mini game as many times as you need. Thanks to TKTOWA for this tip.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/29.jpg All Aboared! (B)

You road a boar for at least five minutes.

Early in Part One, an old man next to the item shop in Nier's village can give you a side-quest, called Boar Hunt!, involving Nier defeating a boar in the northern plains. After successfully completing the quest, Nier will gain the ability to ride a boar. Simply stay on the boar (no need to actually run around) for five minutes, and the trophy will unlock. Thanks to gadamo94 for this tip.

While this quest becomes available in Part One, you can also complete it in Part Two. Do not worry about skipping it in Part One on your way to earning Lightspeed Fighter.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/379/25.jpg Lightspeed Fighter (S) (missable!)

You completed the game within fifteen hours.

This is actually not very hard at all. You must complete Part One and Part Two, and defeat the final boss run, in under fifteen hours. Use the following tips:

-Start the game on Easy difficulty.

-Always follow the map marker (the large red X).

-Avoid enemies you don't need to fight. You won't need to do any extra leveling-up.

-When climbing ladders, hold the X button to climb faster.

-When descending an environment, you can often jump to a lower location, instead of using ladders.

-Keep a good stock of healing items. You can use them to survive boss fights if you get in trouble.

-You can opt to complete the Boar Hunt! side-quest. This will make getting across the plains faster, but is by no means required to make it under fifteen hours.

Defeat Gretel within two and a half minutes.

All of the timed boss battle trophies are incredibly easy to earn on a New Game+. If you do not get these trophies your first time through, don't sweat it. You almost certainly will earn them your second time through. On all these fights, skip the mid/post battle cutscenes by pressing Start.

Technically speaking, all of the timed-boss battle trophies are missable. However, by your second and third playthrough, you will be so overpowered you would have to try not to obtain the trophies.

Defeat someone you care for within three and half minutes.

This battle takes place at the very end of your third playthrough (and any subsequent playthrough after that), but only if you have collected all thirty weapons in the game. As soon as the battle begins, attack the boss with your preferred weapon. After a few hits, the boss will collapse to the ground. A shield will appear around the boss and two small magical points will appear, firing magic attacks at you. You can't destroy these magical points or the shield around the boss, so just hang back and avoid taking damage (on one side of the room there is a bed you can jump onto where the magic attacks cannot hit you). After about twenty seconds, the points will disappear, and you can resume fighting the boss. Attack with your preferred weapon, and you should have no problem winning the battle.

Manipulating your PS3's clock:

In order to make unlocking Legendary Gardener much easier and faster, you need to manipulate your system's clock in order to fool the game into thinking more time has passed than actually has. Because the growth of plants in NIER is directly based on the passage of real-world time, getting the trophy the "fair" way can take ages. Here's what you need to do:

From the cross media bar (the Playstation 3 system's main menu), scroll to the left to "Settings". Next go into "Network Settings". Make sure "Internet Connection" is set to disabled. Back out.

Now go to "Date and Time Settings". This is where you can manually adjust the system's clock. Whenever the guide tells you to adjust your clock, come here.

Cultivating the White Moonflower:

Cultivating is performed in the small field next to Nier's house. There are three rows of fives spaces for planting, for a total of 15 spots. You can plant a variety of things, but for the purposes of this trophy, we will only be discussing flowers. The flower the trophy references is the White Moonflower.

Flowers have five stages:

1. Planting - the seeds have just been planted

2. Growing - the plant is growing

3. Flowering - the plant is flowering

4. Harvesting - the plant is able to be harvested for seeds

5. Dead - the plant is useless

During planting and growing, you may water the plant, which increases the amount of seeds that you receive if you choose to harvest. Also, before planting, you can opt to use fertilizer in order to increase your yield of seeds, but this is not necessary. This part of the guide does not use fertilizer, so after this it will not be mentioned.

There are several steps you must take in order to acquire the White Moonflower. This involves placing certain flowers next to others in order to increase the probability of yielding increasingly rarer seeds, which in turn can be planted to yield rarer flowers. Without going into the math, this guide will provide you with the best possible path.

Before we begin, make sure you have met one of the following criteria:

1) Completed both The Shopping List and A Return to Shopping side-quests (during Part One).

-or-

2) Purchased the cultivation handbook from the florist in the village market (during Part Two).

Now, go to the Seafront market. Locate the Grocer, and purchase the following:

9 red moonflower seeds, 6 gold moonflower seeds, and 6 blue moonflower seeds.

Go back to Nier's house.

Using the red and gold seeds, plant in the following pattern:

[Red] [Red] [Red]

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

[Red] [Red] [Red]

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

[Red] [Red] [Red]

Next, water all of your seeds.

Go to the mailbox and save your game.

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 4 hours.

Load your save.

Water all of your plants.

Go to the mailbox and save your game

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 48 hours.

Load your save.

When you return, all of the plants should be in the harvesting stage. Collect all of the seeds. Hopefully, you get at least 9 peach moonflower seeds. If you do not have at least 9 peach moonflower seeds, but have at least one, see Back Up Plan, below. If you do not have even one peach seed, you must try again from scratch. Sorry.

Now, using the gold and blue seeds, plant in the following pattern:

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

[blue] [blue] [blue]

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

[blue] [blue] [blue]

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

Next, water all of your seeds.

Go to the mailbox and save your game.

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 4 hours.

Load your save.

Water all of your plants.

Go to the mailbox and save your game

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 48 hours.

Load your save.

When you return, all of the plants should be in the harvesting stage. Collect all of the seeds. Hopefully, you get at least 6 indigo moonflower seeds. If you do not have at least 6 indigo moonflower seeds, but have at least one, see Back Up Plan, below. If you do not have even one indigo seed, you must try again from scratch. Sorry.

Now, using the red and indigo seeds, plant in the following pattern:

[Red] [Red] [Red]

[ing] [ing] [ing]

[Red] [Red] [Red]

[ing] [ing] [ing]

[Red] [Red] [Red]

Water all of your seeds.

Hopefully, you get at least 6 pink moonflower seeds. If you do not have at least 6 pink moonflower seeds, but have at least one, see Back Up Plan, below. If you do not have even one pink seed, you must try again from scratch. Sorry.

Next, using the peach and pink seeds, plant in the following pattern:

[Peac] [Peac] [Peac]

[Pink] [Pink] [Pink]

[Peac] [Peac] [Peac]

[Pink] [Pink] [Pink]

[Peac] [Peac] [Peac]

Go to the mailbox and save your game. (You do not have to water the seeds)

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 48 hours.

Load your save.

When you return, all of the plants should be in the harvesting stage. Hopefully, at least one of them is the legendary White Moonflower seed. It's about a ten percent chance that the White Moonflower seed will show up under these conditions. If you do not have one white seed, you must try again from scratch. Sorry. Thanks to Sajiko for confirming that the seeds will unlock the trophy.

Another method that has been suggesed if you do not have a White Moonflower seed is to harvest the seeds and retry with the same method as before. Save your game, then retry, instead of reloading your save. It has been suggested the odds of producing White Moonflower seeds increase with each attempt, but the game will not record your attempts if you reload your previous save. I've have heard arguments on both sides for this method, so I leave you to decide. Thanks to Sajiko for this tip.

Back Up Plan

If something didn't go quite as well as you hoped, don't worry. There is an easy fix. As long as you have one seed of the type you need, all you have to do is plant that seed, harvest it, and then you will have three, four, or possibly five seeds where you only had one before!

You can even use this strategy while you are attempting to harvest other seeds. For example, let's say you have only one peach seed (out of the 9 you need), but you also still need your 6 indigo seeds. Well, then you would plant the seeds you have in the following pattern:

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

[blue] [blue] [blue]

[Gold] [Gold] [Gold]

[xxxx] [blue] [blue]

[Peac] [Gold] [Gold]

Next, water all of your seeds.

Go to the mailbox and save your game.

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 4 hours.

Load your save.

Water all of your plants.

Go to the mailbox and save your game

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 48 hours.

Load your save.

When you return, all of the plants should be in the harvesting stage. Collect all of the seeds. Hopefully, you get at least some indigo moonflower seeds, but you will guaranteed get some peach moonflower seeds. Repeat this strategy as needed on your quest for the White Moonflower!

Turning a Profit from the White Moonflower

Once you have acquired at least one white moonflower seed, you are ready to begin the long road to acquiring 1,000,000 gold. We will be using a very similar strategy as the one outlined above for growing the white moonflower.

The basic strategy is to grow and sell white moonflowers until you acquire the Man of Means trophy. Each flower can be sold for a whopping 5,000 gold, and you can grow 15 at a time. So for each growth cycle, you can earn 75,000 gold. If you started with absolutely no gold at all (which is probably not the case), it would take you 14 cycles to earn over 1,000,000 gold.

To grow flowers, you need seeds. So, 14 cycles of flowers times 15 flowers per cycle equals 210 seeds. Unfortunately, Nier can only hold 99 seeds at a time. Therefore, we must go back and forth between what we will call harvest cycles and flower cycles. By performing harvest cycles, we gain seeds to perform flower cycles. To begin, I shall explain what each cycle entails.

Please note, because our ultimate goal is to acquire 1,000,000 gold, I would recommend postponing all this until after you have completed Go-To Guy, as well as the four Weapons Collector-related quests. This ensures you already have a fair sum of money to begin with.

Harvest Cycle

Actually, before we can begin true harvest cycles, we need to acquire at least 15 white moonflower seeds. The strategy for doing so is the same strategy as the harvest cycle itself, we are just planting fewer than 15 seeds to begin with. Follow these steps for both acquiring 15 seeds initially and performing harvest cycles after that.

To begin, go to the Grocer in the village. Buy a load of bounty fertilizer (75 is good). Bounty fertilizer increases your seeds yield, so it's very helpful here. Return to Nier's field.

Use Bounty Fertilizer on all 15 spots (or however many spots you have seeds for).

Plant your white moonflower seeds.

Water all your plants.

You should get around 45 white moonflower seeds on average.

Flower Cycle

(We don't need to use bounty fertilizer or water in a flower cycle. These both affect the number of seeds a harvest yields, but do not affect the flower of the plant at all. Therefore, we can save time by skipping both.)

Plant your 15 white moonflower seeds.

Go to the mailbox and save your game.

Go to the cross media bar and set your PS3 clock forward 24 hours.

Load your save.

When you return, all of the plants should be in the flowering stage. Collect ten of the flowers, run to the Item Shopkeeper, sell the ten (for 50,000 gold). Return to Nier's field and collect the other five, then sell them as well (for 25,000 gold). You can only carry ten white moonflowers at a time, so you must split up the trip.

Earning 1,000,000 gold

Because Nier can only hold 99 seeds at a time, you must alternate your harvest cycles and flower cycles. Be sure to never go below 15 seeds on a flower cycle, as you will then have to catch back up to 15 in order to perform a full harvest cycle. Once you have at least 550,000 gold, you can save up 90 seeds, then only perform flower cycles until you reach your goal (as 90 seeds = 6 flower cycles = 450,000 gold).

This whole process is a little time consuming, and not too terribly exciting, but it is the most efficient way to earn Man of Means. Good luck!

Also, once you acquire a large amount of gold (say somewhere in the neighborhood of 600,000), you can opt to sell everything in your inventory to make a large sum in a quick visit to the merchant. This can earn you the trophy much faster than finishing up with seed and harvest cycles. Keep in mind, though, you will still need a large amount of money to purchase any remaining weapons, upgrades, materials, fishing equipment, etc. Be sure to save your game before you do this if you choose to use this method! Reload your save after you earn the trophy so you don't lose all of your stuff. Thanks to Felis_Rufus for this tip.

Hey man, great start to this guide. I got this game @ 11 am this morning and am having a great time with it. Will be checking up on this daily.

ps. For the ride a boar trophy.. you can just hope on and go have a smoke or afk or w/e and when you get back it'll pop or be there... you don't actually have to "ride" it around. Not sure if you maybe wanted to clarify.

Though, in a place like the Northern Plains, it's kinda dangerous to sit around...

Great job on the guide man. I was about to do this myself earlier, but I didn't feel like doing it all. Hopefully soon you can get some pictures up and we can get it up on the site. I'll try to include any trophy images I can provide.

Also, OP, here is another tip on the Combo Master trophy...

Combo Master(S)

Pull off an 100-hit combo

When taking on the quest "Wild Boar" in the beginning of the game, you can get this trophy. Equip the Nameless Blade, with no words attached. Find the wild boar you're supposed to defeat and prepare to attack. If you give it enough time, it will perform a devastating charge attack. Avoid this by holding :square:. This will hit the boar, then charge up an attack. Once the charge attack builds flame, release it and repeat. This is a longer process, but it works. Stay vigilant. You can only lose your combo meter by not hitting something after a certain amount of seconds. If you're hit or miss the combo will still be there if you get another hit in on time. Just repeat that pattern and you should have it by the end of the boar's life. He has a lot of HP, so as long as you're around level 3 or 4 it shouldn't be a problem.

Nice thanks for that, ill def be checking for any updates.

I saw the guide today at gamestop and to me it was pretty small.

EDIT: i put up a post the other days saying http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/nier/achievements/ had the full achievement list and may have the same ones as NIER and it has pictures for them all. Some of the achievements may be spoilers, and im not sure if the trophies are the same pics, but figured this could maybe help.

The art is the same, however we can't just take it from xbox360achievements.org. The problem being that we need the actual trophy pictures from Playstation.eu. For some reason this site requires you submit pictures from Playstation's official site (and they recommend Europes site, for some reason). Plus, the backgrounds of each trophy would be green and white, haha.

Dont know if its worth putting in the guide but there is a really easy way to beat the wild boar to unlock your horn really early, just stand on a rock and shoot it with dark blast, the idiot will continually try to charge at you and knocking himself down but missing you, takes a long time but with the hp he has id imagine the battle will be long either way lol, the thing i need to know tho is which difficulty should i play it on if trying for the plat? Easy im guessing for the timed trophies but can anyone confirm theres no other reason to play on hard? Which is a bummer since im alrdy quite a bit into the game on hard :( lol

There is absolutely no reason, trophywise, to play on hard. You're safe on easy.

Dedemaru said its kind of dangerous to wait around and he is right so a good thing to do is in the northern plains just rush to the aerie cave entrance with the boar DONT go inside as you will lose the boar and sit around there as no enemies will attack you unlike the village entrance.
