I saw these tweets, they upset because I'm black and I knew Rue was dark skinned in the book. Some people need to actually read the descriptions in the book. My friends were sad when she died in the movie (most of them white and asian) and weren't like "oh she's black, who gives a shit if she dies."

Get this Hunger Game bullshit, outta here. Another showcasing of Hollywood plagiarism on a novel/film already made in another country.

I'd say save your money, either buy Battle Royale or even pay to watch it on YouTube, and enjoy a MUCH better film, that was made 10 years before Hollywood jumped on their "young adult fiction novel" bandwagon...

I'd say this sounds more like The Running Man than Battle Royale.

What? Samus is a woman? I'm not playing anymore Super Metroid.

Despite it being stellar.

PS Hunger Games is a Battle Royale ripoff? I had no idea what it was even about. I thought it was kind of like something between Twilight and The Da Vinci Code.

There's so many different adaptations around of Battle Royale, But they just tend to have there own spin on it.
Another one that jumps to mind is The Condemned, That plus the Running man ran with the Criminal aspect to it, They would never be missed from society etc

I fail to see why everybody gets there face bent out of shape. If anything it will increase peoples perception of Battle Royale and in turn will increase its exposure

So which came first? Battle Royale or the Hunger Games books? If the books came first, it'd be hard to say the movie is based off of Battle Royale.

On another note, I just saw this movie the other way. Having not read any of the books, I had no problem with any of the characters, and quite frankly having the two from District 11 be colored fit perfectly into the story.

The Battle Royale book (Which the film was based on, and despite how amazing the film is, I still prefer the book) was published in 1999, the film was released in 2000. The Hunger Games books were published in 2008 I think? Not sure, but it was several years later anyway.

Tbh I was surprised when I saw that Rue was black. I had always pictured Thresh as black, but Rue I always saw as a petite white girl. Probably personal bias because I am white though. Didn't really effect the movie much for me.

Also,

Battle Royale was WAAAAY before. It is also a better representation of the ideals portrayed, though Hunger Games is a better 'story'.

Hate to break the bad news to you but originality is far and few between these days regardless of where it is made. Most movies are remakes or reworks of another or based on an idea that has already been made.

Why knock it. The creaters were able to turn it in to soemthing succesful. Heck, there would be no Battle Royale without Children of the Corn. Who gives a damn? People like what they like and others can make it work better.

Hell, ask the author of that book that The Matrix is supposedly based on how it's working out for her while the Wachowski Brothers swim in there millions.

People get to stuck in there zones sometimes which give them blinders to everything else. Kind of sad. Why can't they both be good?
