Introduction:

MotorStorm: Apocalypse is the fourth game in the MotorStorm series and the third instalment for the Playstation 3. MotorStorm is a racing game series focused on "off-road racing" featuring different types of vehicles with their own strengths and weaknesses and tracks with different terrains which may either hinder the vehicles' handling, or improve it. MotorStorm: Apocalypse is the first MotorStorm game set in an urban environment as opposed to natural settings, taking place in a decaying city suffering the aftermath of a natural disaster. Competitors are challenged to race through these ruins while avoiding collapsed buildings, explosions, and tremors that will actively and visually redefine the routes mid-race. The opponents, along with the player, will need to be wary of the two warring "factions" as bystanders will present a hazard for the first time in the series, often torching racers with fire weapons. The game also adds five new vehicle classes, such as superbikes, supercars, super minis, muscle cars and choppers. This guide is written with the intention of obtaining Platinum as quickly as possible, and all controls listed in this guide refer to the "Classic" control layout.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete Festival Mode + Special Events

First up, select Festival Mode from the Main Menu. You will unlock the bulk of the games trophies here. 18 trophies will be unlocked automatically as you progress through this mode. This mode is also a great opportunity to earn a lot of the race/combat specific trophies, such as destroying cars, racing with certain restrictions and all else. Keep in mind any miscellaneous trophy and work towards it as you progress. Any race in Festival Mode can be repeated via Chapter Select so do not stress if you think you have missed an opportunity for a trophy. Just enjoy this mode, because the races are a lot of fun. This mode will take about 5 hours for the decent racer. It will also provide great experience of the games tracks and vehicle classes, preparing you for online racing.

The Found 'em All! trophy relates to Festival Mode. As you progress, you will occasionally notice shiny cards floating around the track. You can collect these cards by driving into them. Do not worry if you miss any, because you will. This trophy will most likely be one of the last you get in single player. Refer to the guide for an in-depth walkthrough. Whenever you place 1st in a Festival race, you unlock a Special Event. These are accessed via the Wreckreation Menu and consist of Hardcore Races and Time Trials. Complete 25 of these, any of them, to unlock the three related trophies. Check the guide for more information.

Step 2: Online - Unobtainable

There are 10 trophies to be earned here and most of them are straightforward. Get used to racing and betting online as it all helps you reach Rank 40 for the "Jackpot" trophy, which will be the last trophy you earn online. Just enjoy the online portion of the game as it works very well. Unlike Pacific Rift, you no longer lose XP for losing races. In MotorStorm: Apocalypse you earn XP by meeting personal goals. That said though, still aim for 1st place because that will help you rank up much faster. XP can be earned via Matchmaking and Private Matches, although you will only be awarded 50% XP for Private Matches. In time, rank 40 will come and can be achieved by anyone that puts in a bit of effort. Search the Trophy Guide for individual online trophy descriptions.

If you want any help with anything online, be it XP or medals, or if you just want fellow trophy hunters to race against, head over to the Trophy Boosting Thread. Please note that you will only receive half of the XP in Private Matches than what you would earn in Matchmaking Races. It is for this reason that I do not recommend racing in Private Matches to reach Rank 40. It is possible to earn the required chips for Rank 40 in Private Matches only but it would take twice as long.

Step 3: Clean up

If you missed any trophies, then use this step to go back and get them.

Miscellaneous Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/02.jpg Motion Master (B)

Complete a race steering with the motion sensor function

I recommend doing this outside of Festival Mode. At the Main Menu select Options -> Controller -> Change Driving Controls -> Steering Controls = Motion Sensor Function.

Now choose Wreckreation then Quick Race. Pick any track and vehicle, and set the lap count to 1. Now simply finish the race, it does not matter if you do not place 1st.

Be sure to change the steering controls back to your preferred method after the race.

Here is another method suggested by user Pierce, to be done in Festival Mode:

After setting Steering Controls to Motion Sensor Function, to make things easy for yourself, chapter select an Eliminator race. Just start the race, put the controller on a table and not do anything. In a few seconds you will be eliminated and the trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/03.jpg Air Assault (B)

Punch a fellow rider off their bike or ATV while you're both in mid-air

This is best achieved during the first race as Tyler in Festival Mode. You will begin the race in the middle of a huge pack of riders on bikes and ATV's. As you ride over the many bumps and jumps during the first section of the track, simply get close to another rider and hit either :l1: or :r1: to punch them off their bike mid-air. It may take a few attempts, but restarting the event has no consequences so go for your life.

Both you and your target must be in the air when the punch lands for the trophy to unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/04.jpg Hot Air (B)

Use in-air cooling to entirely cool your full Boost gauge from Critical in a single jump

This will come without even trying. Approach a ramp making sure to use your boost in such a way that you are at the critical limit of the boost gauge. Now, when you launch off the ramp/jump, simply let go of :r2: in mid-air to cool off your engine. If the gauge completely dissipates by the time you hit the ground, you will unlock this trophy.

Almost every track in the game has a suitable jump/ramp for this trophy. The first race as Mash, after the Prologue, is where I unlocked this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/05.jpg I Made it Myself (B)

Modify your vehicle using all the available options

Enter Wreckreation from the Main Menu and then select Vehicle Customisation. Pick any vehicle, and at the next screen change every possible option from its default. This includes all Parts, Stickers, Liveries etc.

Once you have made such changes, select 'Save and Quit' and the trophy will unlock. If for some reason it does not unlock, you have missed a customisation option.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/06.jpg Energy Efficient (B)

Win a race without ever entering Critical Boost

For this, pick a track and vehicle that you are most comfortable with. Festival Mode as Mash is another good option. Now, during the race use your boost conservatively making sure you never enter the critical stage (the gauge flashes accompanied by a beeping sound). Come in first place and the trophy will unlock. Try to keep the gauge under 50%, because there are many fire hazards in the game that can easily and quickly raise your engines temperature. Use water and air-cooling to your advantage.

This trophy is easier than it may sound.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/07.jpg Target Locked(B)

Ram and wreck the same opponent twice during a race

At the start of any race, pick an AI racer that will be your target (preferably a bike, ATV etc). Your aim here is to simply wreck that racer twice. Follow him around the track, and whenever you get along-side him hit either :l1: or :r1: to ram the opponent. If done correctly, you should get a message on screen saying that you have wrecked another racer. Do this to the same racer a 2nd time and the trophy is yours.

You MUST hit the racer with either :l1: or :r1: rather than just driving over them. Your position in the race does not affect this trophy, so take your time.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/09.jpg Variety is the Spice of Life(B)

Complete a race in all of the standard game modes

There are three standard game modes: Race, Elimination and Chase. You encounter Races and Eliminations in Festival Mode, but not Chase mode. Simply select quick race from the Wreckreation menu and change the mode to Chase, and then finish it. As long as you have played a Race and Elimination prior to Chase, the trophy will unlock at the end of Round 5 of Chase.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/10.jpg Pure as Mud (B)

Successfully perform 3 stunts in a single race

Whenever you are a rider (ATV, Bike) pressing either  or  in mid-air will perform a stunt. Simply perform three of these stunts in any race to unlock this trophy.

You will need quite a bit of hang-time to successfully perform a stunt. Only attempt these off large ramps/jumps, such as the many jumps of the track 'Skyline'. Almost every track has a suitable jump, so aim for doing one stunt per lap. You MUST land the stunt in order for it to count towards this trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/11.jpg Wheelin' an' Dealin' (B)

Pull a continuous wheelie for 5 seconds

Attempt this while riding the dirt bike, in either Quick Race or Festival. When you are on a bike and on a flat bit of road, stop and then pull :ls: down, and slowly accelerate. You will pop a wheelie. Hold it for 5 seconds, which really isn't much at all, and the trophy will unlock. This is extremely easy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/12.jpg Unlucky for Some (B)

Win a race with each of the 13 vehicle classes

Obviously, there are 13 vehicle classes in the game. If you play Festival Mode from start to finish and win in each race you will have 12 out of the 13 vehicles completed, leaving only the Chopper left. Enter a Quick Race and win as the Chopper to get the trophy.

Here is a list of all 13 vehicle classes:

Dirt Bike

ATV

Buggy

Rally Car

Racing Truck

Mudplugger

Big Rig

Monster Truck

Superbike

Chopper

Supermini

Super Car

Muscle car

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/13.jpg FPR (B)

Win a race using only the vehicle-mounted camera

When in-game, press :triangle: to cycle through possible camera angles. For this trophy, you want the hood view for the vehicles and the close-up of the rider for bikes and ATV's. Once you are in this view, simply win the race. This can be done in any game mode. If this camera doesn't work well for you, select the track 'Ship Shape' in quick race and set laps to 1.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/14.jpg Grease Monkey (B)

Swap out at least one vehicle part on each of the 13 vehicle classes

Easy but annoying. Pick Wreckreation from the Main Menu and then choose Vehicle Customisation. Now starting with the Dirt Bike, select 'Parts' and then change any one of those options. Once done, select 'Save and Quit'.

Now repeat that process with the ATV, Buggy, Rally Car, Racing Truck, Mudplugger, Big Rig, Monster Truck, Superbike, Chopper, Supermini, Super Car and finally the Muscle Car.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/15.jpg Over There! (B)

'Look At' 5 unique race incidents over 5 different races

This is an easy one. Whenever you are prompted in-game to 'look at' an exploding/collapsing object by pressing :triangle:, do this 5 times and the trophy will unlock.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/16.jpg Rampage! (B)

Use the Ram to wreck 10 opponents

To 'Ram' someone is to smash into them using either :l1: or :r1:. You must wreck another racer using ram for it to count towards this trophy; you can not simply drive over them. When you successfully wreck someone, you will be notified by a message on-screen.

Wreck 10 racers in total to unlock this trophy. This trophy is accumulative across Festival Mode, Quick Race and Multiplayer and will almost certainly come while progressing through Festival Mode.

Collect 1 of the hidden MotorStorm Cards

See the "Found 'em All!" trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/18.jpg Found 'em All! (S)

Collect 150 of the hidden MotorStorm Cards

MotorStorm Cards are found in Festival Races. Typically, there are 4 Cards per race, but some do have 3 Cards or 5. The MotorStorm Cards are of good size and shine silver. You will most likely find a few while progressing through Festival Mode.

The Cards are typically hidden around tight corners, in shortcuts, and in mid-air jumps. The game notifies you of how many cards you have collected in each race, and all races can be repeated to collect any missed cards. Your position in the race does not affect this trophy, so take your time and look only for the cards.

The following videos show you exactly where each card lies. All credit goes to gcrock for his effort.

Pass 10 Special Events

See the "Nail'd it" trophy.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/39.jpg Nail'd it (S)

Pass 25 Special Events

Special Events are unlocked by placing 1st in Festival Races and are accessed via the Wreckreation menu. There are two types of Special Events; Hardcore Festival and Time Attack. Hardcore Festival is the same as Festival Mode, but you are facing the toughest opponents and must finish the race within a certain time limit. These are very difficult and will only be completed by the most experienced racers.

Time Attack is what you are after. These require you to just finish a lap without crashing. Your time does not affect this trophy at all and there are no developer records, so take your time. Complete 25 DIFFERENT Time Attack's to unlock this trophy.

I recommend using a large vehicle, such as the Mudplugger or Big Rig, to minimise your chance of crashing.

Online Trophies

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/08.jpg Kudos (B)

Earn 250 Chips from a single drift in Multiplayer

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

This can be done on any long corner in any track online. Using a fast vehicle such as the Rally Car or Super Car, approach a big corner with an empty boost gauge, slide into the corner using brakes, and then drop the brakes and hit the boost. If done correctly you will enter a drift. It's the same principle as any racing game and is easily done. Make 250 Chips in a single drift to get this trophy.

If you want to easily get this, enter the Multiplayer Menu and join the lobby using a second controller. Start a private match and pick 'Ship Shape' as the track. The first turn is a great spot to get a 300+ drift.

Complete your first online race

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Exactly what it looks like. You don't have to place 1st for this. This trophy will be the first one of your MotorStorm online career. Can be a private match or public.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/41.jpg Where's My Money? (B)

Place and win a bet in Matchmaking

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Before any Matchmaking race begins, you have the opportunity to bet against another player. If you do so and place ahead of that person during the race, you will win the bet and unlock this trophy. Placing 1st or otherwise does not affect this trophy, only beating your opponent does.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/42.jpg Double or Quits? (S)

Win a bet while on a x2 Hot Streak

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

To get this trophy you must win 4 bets in a row. Place a bet at the start of a Matchmaking race and be sure to win that bet. After the race, you will be asked if you would like to bet again. Press :square: to do so, but beware because you only have a few seconds to press :square:. During the lobby of the following race, place another bet. Be sure to place the bet, because if you do not your bet multiplayer will be lost and this trophy void.

Now win this following bet, and complete the process another two times until you have a 2x multiplayer. Bet against low ranking players or people choosing vehicles not suited to the track to increase your chances of winning the bet.

If you struggle to win 4 bets in a row, set up a private match using a second controller and win 4 that way.

Reach Rank 40 in Multiplayer

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

It takes 1,365,000 XP to reach Rank 40 Online. Chips or XP can be earned a number of ways from simply winning races, to winning bets and earning medals. When racing online, always aim for 1st position and place smart bets according to your skill level. Keep medals and accolades in mind too, as these offer XP bonuses for unlocking. XP can no longer be lost for losing races this time round so just have fun online and eventually you will get this trophy as well as the three Rank related trophies before it. It is worth noting that the Rank related trophies do not immediately unlock when you reach that particular rank. You must enter a new race online and that is when the trophy will pop.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/47.jpg Where Do You Put Them All? (B)

Earn 50 Accolades in Multiplayer

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Accolades are XP rewards you can earn in Matchmaking races. These range from achieving the fastest lap time, to boosting the most or wrecking the most opponents. There are Accolades for nearly every aspect of Motorstorm and as such, they are easy enough to earn.

Most likely you will earn this trophy while progressing towards rank 40. For the average racer, you will earn 50+ accolades in about 5 hours. As there are so many types of accolades, it is possible to get 10+ in a single race. Boost, brake, jump and speed as best you can to rack up the accolades quickly.

http://www.ps3trophies.org/images/trophies/598/48.jpg Decorated Stormer (B)

Earn 25 Medals in Multiplayer

UNOBTAINABLE DUE TO SERVER CLOSURE

Medals are similar to Accolades but take multiple levels, or tiers, to achieve. Generally there are 5 levels per medal. Medals can be achieved by reaching podium finishes, races completed, miles completed or wrecking other racers as well as a whole host of other objectives.

Like Accolades, there are many different types of Medals and for the average player, reaching 25 medals will come naturally. Just race as well as you can and you should get this in no time.

To check your Medals progress, visit My MotorStorm -> Progress -> Medals. Aim for ones that you are closest to.

A tips for people having trouble with the Air Assault & Target Locked is to start a split screen quick race with 2 controllers on the track "Road Warriors". There is 2 kinda big jumps at the begenning so it shoudln't be a problem to place 2 dirt bikes infront of it and just accelerate over the edge and knock the other player of the bike.

Didn't notice there's this other guide. Unlike what is said in this guide, I suggest doing Motion Master in Festival mode :)

A little tip on Motion Master trophy:

After setting Steering Controls to Motion Sensor Function, to make things easy for yourself, chapter select an Eliminator race. Just start the race, put the controller on a table and not do anything. In a few seconds you will be eliminated and the trophy will pop.

Win a bet while on a x2 Hot Streak

*snip*

If you struggle to win 4 bets in a row, set up a private match using a second controller and win 4 that way.

This doesn't work for me. It skips the betting part, so I can't place a bet on player 2. Am I supposed to somehow choose a different psn account for the 2nd player? because the game just comes up with an error code when I select a different psn. So I end up selecting the same account which makes player 2 called MadDragon846 (1) or something like that.

(I have the allow bets option turned on btw).

I'v tried getting it the proper way, but whenever I'm getting close to a 2x, the connection messes up and I get put back to the multiplayer search screen.

gonna put my input on this and as more and more ppl get this its going to get longer for getting high online ranks... lucky for most ppl its only level 40 and not 80 cause ive noticed since theres more ppl the rooms are shrinking in size as in more rooms with less ppl in them instead of less rooms being full... its starting to spread out more cause sometimes i only have 6-8 ppl in my room and then sometimes i can have all 16.. i look at ppls profiles and those will be void cause im sure at 1st there was only like 5-10 rooms always full and if you were good you could rack up the opponents but now there spreading out... that being said in 18 hrs + im already 34 and im not stopping anytime soon... just today in 2.5 hrs i went from 27-34... i need to start trying other vehicles so i can get some other xp podiums etc though... ive only ever wrecked 5 ppl in 160 some odd races cause thats just not me unless you deserve it for being a douchebag race after race:rolleyes:

  • 2 weeks later...

Tip for quick leveling up....

Play split screen online with 2 psn accounts. Play elimination. Put an elastic band around the R2 button of the second controller. This will stop the second account from being disqualified.

Next, play elimination, and vote on the second account. Do this over and over, and it will soon build up your betting streak and you will start earning masses of chips.

I did something similar with a turbo controller. I had games running all night and when I woke up in the morning I was level 20.
