I think the Harrier II fight is considered as the hardest for many people because of the 1-hit-kills. The Rays weren't that bad, only had to learn the pattern.
Right now I'm trying to get a pure luck based trophy on FFXIII-2, the one on the Slot machines, I prefer trophies based on skill and not those based on pure luck and mood of the game. |

I got mine after only 6 hours of rubberbanding and sleeping ![]() Also, I agree that the Harrier II battle was the hardest in the whole game, the others were easy peasy

General consensus is that the Harrier is the hardest fight in the game on extreme. I happen to agree and most everyone else who's done it will as well. Some people find things easier then others, whereas they find some things that are easier to most to be harder. Its all because the Harrier is the only boss that has multiple attacks that can kill you in one hit whereas the others only have at most one. Even the Ray's were easier for me since they really only have one move that can kill you in one hit at full health, the knee missles.

The harrier was easy once you got in the habit of flipping into the stairs, crashing into them, and then remaining 95% invincible while the harrier does it's multiple missile attack and Raiden lays there limp. Using the box to dodge the machine gun fire while you sneak around the generator helps too.
As for the Rays, I manged to kill all 20 without one firing the knee missiles by pre-firing the stinger before it could lock on the Ray's knee. Then it was knee, mouth, knee, mouth, etc... I swear, the only part of extreme that really pissed me off was the Tengu elevator fight, and Snake only using his handgun instead of his m4, and running right into my line of fire all the time. |

The first tengu part was easy but boring. The second part was so easy, I just ran around with my katana and hold L1 and block attacks then push R3 and its an instant kill for the tengus, rinse and repeat.
My biggest problem on extreme was the sniping section protecting emma. Other then that it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be.

Just got past the Harrier (Extreme) myself. This boss is... not actually as hard as I remembered? I see a lot of mention of its "1-hit-kills", but if you've got Rations it's not even a 1-hit-kill. Compared to European Extreme (which I did on PS2 looong ago), playing through on Extreme is easier than I thought it would be.
I beat the Harrier 3 times while losing 1 of my 2 rations, the 4th time I finally did it without losing any rations. I want to keep those for later situations (*cough* Tengu bastards */cough*) and the dog tag guide doesn't mention any Shell 2 guards carrying rations. Not sure if there are any or not, but I didn't wanna take the risk. Quote:
Those missiles are seriously the biggest threat for me in this battle. I certainly won't try doing cartwheels to dodge 'em, never was any good at that against the Harrier. I actually feel fairly safe during the gatling gun attack, heh. Like some have said, I just stay on the lower level behind those "crates". To make it easier -and safer- to run around the crate when the Harrier moves to the other side, I stay in a carboard box at all times. Only got hit once during my 4 attempts (it's not even an instant kill, so no big deal). This remains one of my favorite bosses in the series. :] Quote:
Doesn't seem to work on the PS3 version anymore. The game will still lag, but apparently it never stops Vamp from diving into the water this time. Ah well, that would have been a bit too cheap anyway. ![]() But yes, as I said above, I expect the most trouble from the Tengu battles. Sure gave me a hell of a lot of trouble on European Extreme (talking about the PS2 version here again, that was years ago).
