For Fallout DLC I used some of the multiple saves I kept through the game with a smaller filesize so I would be able to take advantage of some of the perks and higher skills. Keep in mind you'll have to hit level 30 with a save too. Manual saving may or may not help too

Quick question for you - when you did the Fallout DLC, did you do it all on one save? Or did you ever start a new game?
