Upcoming Top 5 Problem

When PSN comes back online people are coming to submit their plats here. What if someone who platinumed the game on May 30th posts before someone who platinumed it on April 21st for a club that has 4 players in it. That would be an unfair advantage. I think that in this special case the time stamp should be priority for Top 5. Not who signed up for it first.

I know it'd suck, but no top 5 for these games I guess. Unless they use the plat time/date to rank it, but that just seems like a pain in the ass and can be faked by reseting your clock before you get it.

We'll get an answer from a staff member sooner or later.

Even though PSN being down is a complicated matter, the rules will not be changed. Whoever sign up first will get the top 5 spots. Signups have never been about who got the first, but who signed up first.

Just to add to what Lethal said, there haven't been a lot of new releases during the PSN outage anyway. Most of the new games these days have some sort of online component to them, and obviously nobody will be getting the Platinum for those, and thus the Top 5 will still be open to all. The sign ups that we will receive for the first few days are likely to be for offline games whose Top 5's are likely to have already been filled.

Think of it this way, most of the games released since PSN went down have some sort of online component. Obviously, there are no PSN games, so that eliminates those. Those that are totally offline will be a race to see who gets in first.

Dynasty Warriors 7 is going to be one of the games up for grabs (currently 4 spots filled) as it is an offline only plat. I earned the plat for it shortly after the outage, but like anyone else going for that last spot, it will be a matter of being on at the right time once the PSN is back up and the signup thread is unlocked.

I agree though that games that will have this situation will probably few and far between. On a personal level, while having another top 5 would be nice for me, it won't be the end of the world since I already have the site award. I can't say the same for people who are really trying hard to earn that award though.

The way I can possibly see compromise for this is to announce when the signup threads will be unlocked upon restoration of the PSN, and have users going for a top-5 spot 24 hours to sign up for it. For games (and only those games) with more signups than open top-5 slots, those signups can have their timestamps checked to see who wins the last spot(s). After a 24 hour period, signups return to first come, first serve.

Still, that can take up quite a bit of time for the staff to work out, and since there is probably going to be a huge flood of max club signups due to the 3wk+ backlog, it may not be very reasonable to ask of them to go out of their way to add even more to their plates.

This shouldn't be an issue. We will go on with business as usual, processing submissions in the order in which we receive them. The sign-up threads have been closed before and there has never been an issue with the re-opening of them.

There is no way we are making acceptions and removing people from top 5's after they've been awarded the spots.

How would you feel if you signed up first to a game and then 5 more people signed up and had earlier time-stamps than you and you ended up being removed from the top 5 altogether?
