Default Previous Games

Anyone know if you need to know the story of the last two games to follow this or it is a stand alone story.

Given the history of this game (mind you, I've never played the old games either), in this day and age, I really doubt it's necessary to play them to understand the story of the new release. There might be a few references for the fans who have been with the franchise since the beginning... but probably only as icing on the cake that you wouldn't miss if you didn't get it.

I guess it won't be necessary to play the old games to understand Max Payne 3's story, but I highly recommend everyone to play them because they are amazing games. Especially the first (given the year it came out, it really was a masterpiece).
