Hey.
I recently bought the Black Widow (in SP btw) thinking it would be some kind of awesome bad ass gun. However, having both that and Mantis at lvl 3, it seems like a worse gun. See the attachment, which shows them compared (the yellow lines are the Mantis). So other than weighing more, is there any actual upside to using this gun over the mantis? Kinda feel a bit ripped off right now lol. Cheers. |

It has a 3 shot clip, quicker reload then Mantis. The original Widow is a 1 shot clip.
However with the weight it makes your recharge much higher then with the Mantis-X I ended up picking the pistol on my 3rd play.

Having the 3 shots as opposed to only 1 is a huge difference! While the Mantis is just as powerful as the Black Widow (per shot), having the ability to shoot two more shots without reloading can be a life saver!

Sounds good I guess... But that damn weight means that I can't carry a mattock as well (recharge goes to like -40%). Hmm...
Edit: Just used it, and wow... pretty awesome! Although, the Mantis seems to recoil less after a shot has been fired. It doesn't matter in terms in accuracy, but it just "feels" nicer as you can clearly see the head you just blew up The BW goes up and you miss you beautiful well place mail slot shot hehe.I gotta say though, this looks like it'll come in handy for my insanity run! Thanks guys.

I personaly use snipers and assultrifels. I prefere the Black Widow over Mantis, since it has a 3 shot clip, and that can save your life if you are a bad aimer (me).
On my sentinal levlel 59 (insanety) I use the widow on strong enemies and it really helps me. It weighs a lot, but fully upgraded it do not hurt the recharge speed so much. I recomend that you go with the Black widow, but that you save enough money to upgrade it as much as possible before you use it. |

At the end of my first game I had over 500K just sitting there. I upgraded ALL weapons to max, so when it comes to my insanity I'll have all weapons at lvl 10 quite quickly. |

Playing as a caster, the Black Widow is just too heavy to be worth it. I *love* the triple shot, but in the end, my feeling is (faster recharge + Mantis) > Black Widow.
Edit: I forgot to add, with the slow motion mod + extender barrel, I think even Mantis V reaches maximum power (I'm assuming the damage caps at a full bar and doesn't do hidden extra damage). So as long as you're an OK shot (or you spam Liara's stasis), the Mantis is perfectly powerful. Last edited by tagzero; 04-12-2012 at 12:27 PM. |
