Online servers to be shut down March 16 2010

EA announced on their website that the online servers for this game will be closed on march 16, 2010:

This is bullshit... what of the people that have platinumed the game if gonna be impossible to get the online trophies for EVER. they should unlock the trophies for everyone that played the game online.

Never gonna buy another EA game again thats for sure...

Well, to be fair to EA, they can't just keep the servers running indefinitely. And if the game has so few people playing it, all the more reason they're want to put it to bed.

If they just unlocked everyone's online achievements, then the people who earned (or even boosted them) would scream about that too. This is the inevitable fate of just about ANY online game. Take a look at things like Guitar Hero 3 on the 360. That had "play against an activision dev". How many people do you think go that one? At least devs have the sense to make those ones viral these days. And besides that, achievements and trophies aren't considered an integral part of the product. Heck, if some of the naming conventions are anything to go by, they're almost always an afterthought.

While i'm sure everyone thought conquest might get a slightly longer online run, the fact remains they're going to clamp down on it. So if you want your platinum, regardless of if you've been doing it legit, it might be best to sign up to the boosting thread and get it done before the online is buried.

Whew! Thank goodness I didn't buy this last week. Tempting price cut at Gamestop but I passed it up and preordered Heavy Rain.

Had I bought this game, knowing me it would've been put on the shelf and not be touched for a couple months so thankfully I didn't pick it up. Don't think I ever will now.

Precisely. I will be renting this as soon as possible, boosting the online trophies, and leaving the rest until I decide to buy the game. At least they gave us a months notice... that should be plenty of time.
