On ranked mode, you can't use star soul or you don't get a bonus. You don't have to do though.

Oh, that's not good news. Was planning to do Dad's scores on ranked. I rely on star soul and Nick Toss a LOT!

Is it better to go through the motions in ranked, just for the trophy, then try for Dad's scores on normal in story mode then?

I tried to beat them on my 2nd playthrough (Normal), clearing them up on my 3rd playthrough as well (Ranked).

I used the dropkick on them and then lop their heads off. It's quick and they stay stunned for a while. When more of them come at the end, just hit R2 for sparkle attack.
